We've recently written about sneaky hotel fees that are creeping onto our bills, but we'd like to think people are paying attention to obvious actions that will result in hefty charges.
That's why our eyes nearly rolled out of our heads when we read this little ditty in the New York Post and Entertainmentwise.com about Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt and their $5,000 laundry bill courtesy of the Dorchester in London.
According to the stories, the clueless couple, who were in England filming "Celebrity Big Brother" last month, sent four suitcases worth of clothes to the hotel's laundry service after running out of outfits to wear. The tab for their newly-washed threads? £3,500 ($5,000).
This apparently boggled Pratt's mind--"We were totally flabbergasted," he was reported saying, and upon returning to the States, he attempted to do some math with a writer and like most travelers, lamented on the power of the pound.

Last summer, we watched some pretty big-time hotels open all around the world. London made a contribution to the ultra-luxe Dorchester Collection. New York got its first unofficial skateboard hotel. Trump invaded Panama. And now, twelve months into the game, we can't help but let our curiosity get the better of us. What are these hotels up to a year later?
Right off the bat, we had a pretty good feeling about 45 Park Lane when the announcement was made, pre-opening, that the hotel would be housed in London's old Playboy Club. But this hotel has managed to wow in all the right places: excellent service, Hyde Park views, fully pimped out bathrooms, and free WiFi.
And the rates ain't bad, either.

45 Park Lane has finally, formally opened its swanky, $567 per night doors in West London, with many a bell and whistle accompanying its Mayfair debut. With a mere 45 rooms (clever coincidence, eh?), the hotel is relatively modest in size but decidedly immodest by way of luxuries: bespoke furniture, Bang & Olfusen televisions, views of Hyde Park, marble baths, a Media Room available for private hire, and a custom, to-order Bath Menu are just a few perks up for offer. And a partridge in a pear tree.

Ok bad news first:45 Park Lane is now set to open in Summer 2011. But it's hard to be too sad especially when we see what they have in store.
Interior designer Thierry Despont plans to make the 45-room hotel look more like a private residence, a trend which seems to be taking off with London hotels.
Inside a grand staircase will take centre stage leading up to Bar 45, the hotel's library and a private screening room. The rooms will all have views over Hyde Park, mirrors with integrated TVs, Blu Ray players and Bang & Olufsen entertainment systems. The Penthouse will feature a large terrace with views over London, ideal for impressing the ladies.

CUT in Vegas
We've been so busy tallying up the London Hotel Openings, that we've nearly lost sight of what's actually going inside the hotels. But thankfully, 45 Park Lane has righted us again with their announcement that Wolfgang Puck will open his successful steak restaurant, CUT inside the hotel later this spring.
The first CUT opened at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire and was instantly frequented by A-list celebs (TomKat, etc.) That was followed by CUT at The Palazzo in Las Vegas. But even more special for the hotel, aside from having a guaranteed celeb nosh spot, is that this will be Wolfgang's first restaurant in Europe.
It's kinda hard to believe that's never been done before, given how prolific Wolfgang Puck is in America--from LA to Vegas and even on-the-go airport food. Nevertheless, when CUT opens here's a bit on what to expect:
The Dorchester Collection has been on a roll lately, having recently opened up their country hotel, Coworth Park in so we guess we can forgive them for the slight delay on their next hotel, 45 Park Lane.
The London hotel was set to open at that Park Lane address inside the old Playboy Club in late 2010 but looking at the hotel's website today we see that's been moved to early 2011.
The hotel will still have the 45 guestrooms and a large penthouse suite as planned and Thierry Despont has been tasked with the hotel's architecture and design which is set to be modern with an intimate club-like feel. But there's another little twist.

The Dorchester. Playboy. Not two words you’d normally associate together, but all this is about to change.
Not that the Dorchester Collection is saucing up its image – it’s merely being inclusive as it branches out. Turns out that the site for its next London hotel, 45 Park Lane, is what used to be the London outpost of the Playboy Club.
