There are two extreme paths one can go down when staying in London hotels. First, there is the classic English style, fit for royals, tea drinkers, and let's face it, seniors. Or you could try, the extremely modern style more suited for gadget lovers and mod squads. The problem is, with the exchange rate the way it is, most Statesiders cannot afford to be that picky.

According to the New York Times, The Knightsbridge Hotel does a decent job straddling these two London hotel realities, it is more on the plushy side but in a comfortable sense rather than snooty sense. Located just around the corner from Harrods, it is close to the Science Museum and History Musuem.

The Times found that the rooms were quiet and private; the bathroom was separated by a heavy door, pretty much soundproofing the sucker, unlike a certain Marseillaise hotel.

The room was blissfully quiet. From the windows, I could see private terraces and ivy-walled gardens. I could also see the crenellated rooftop of Harrods with flags flapping in the London breeze

Normally the rates are start at 150 pounds for a standard room, but July through September 21 brings rates to 130 pounds with free breakfast. This savings is slight, yes, but if you are going to hit Harrod's you will need any savings you can get.
