Kinky Hotels: The Drake Toronto's Pleasure Menu
July 3, 2006 at 8:42 AM | 0 Comments

When the Mondrian Hotel started selling sex toys in its gift shop back in February, with plans to offer toys in-room, we thought that this would be the beginning of an exciting new hotel trend.
However, we forgot that way back in late 2004, The Drake Hotel had added its very own pleasure menu, meaning that hotels were hip to your sexual hotel needs way before the Mondrian got in on the game.
At the Drake, pleasure kits are available for $35 and include vibrators, massage oils, condoms, velvet restraints and how-to videos. (Er...How-to videos?)The kits and other sexual aids are listed on the "Pleasure Menu". Once you place your order (with a discreet staffer), the goods will be delivered promptly so as not to ruin the mood.
We just wonder what it says on your check-out bill after you order these goods. Are they itemized or does it just say Pleasure Menu Service?
If you do hit up the Drake this funky boutique hotel has a bumping nightlife that can either put you in the mood or ruin it completely:
Avoid Room 203 at all costs because it is located at the top of a long stairway [or echo chamber] from the lobby, and the window overlooks a very active outdoor patio area. I understand that if you complain about the noise the front desk will send you a set of their own earplugs.
Earplugs can definitely kill the mood as no one can look sexy wearing those.

HotelChatter's New Year's Rockin' Eve: Why Party in Toronto?

Food and alcohol until 4 A.M.--we rest our case.
On New Year's Eve the Drake, one of the world's few destination hotels, will hold some sort of hedonistic house party--for ten hours straight.
There are plenty of party packages to choose from, including the "Sky Yard Party Package" which will net you house party admission, seating for up to eight people on the Drake's heated sky yard, oysters, sushi, a bottle of vodka with mixers and a bottle of champagne. The cost is $110 a person.
Oh, and here is something funny you can ask the Drakies about when you get there. On the hotel's website, under the headline "Word on the Drake", Heather Graham is quoted as saying "I love the Drake." Why is that funny? Well, check this out.
Guess we know why Heather loves the Drake.

Toronto Film Festival Hotels
While most of the screenings will take place around Yorkville, The Drake Hotel will attract guests and gawkers even though it is in an out of the way neighborhood. The Drake is one of those rare destination hotels.
Sure, one reason festival goers will head out to the Drake is because the hotel was one of four lucky Toronto locals to nab a coveted extended-hours licences to serve alcohol and food until 4 a.m.
Another reason folks will check-in to the Drake is because of their extensive room service menu. A menu that includes vibrators, massage oils, condoms, velvet restraints and how-to videos that can be sent up to dallying guests.
Oh, yeah, and the rooms at this upscale boutique are cool as well. Here is what one Drake visitor tells us:
While the website is a little kooky and odd to navigate, the hotel itself is a gem. In a neighborhood-in-transition (i.e. it's in the process of being gentrified by artists). The hotel itself doesn't look like too much from the outside but inside the owners have put thought and care into all the different and unique design touches.
Now do you understand why some revelers will give up chasing a rooms around Yorkville and head to this "up and coming" neighborhood?
