Hilton in Luxembourg
We were visiting Luxembourg last winter and selected the Hilton in Luxembourg for its indoor pool and massage services. I first checked the room rate on-line, and found one price, but I decided to call the hotel directly to inquire about a "family rate" or any specials they might have. The reservationist gave me a somewhat lower rate and we told her we'd think about it. I called a few days later to book and a different reservationist gave me an even lower price and assured me that was it. We ended up paying about 30Euros/night less than the original rate, which included a toddler bed and a baby cot.
But generous reservationists are not the only reason to go to the Hilton.
The hotel had the BEST breakfast. Many hotels in this part of Europe include a breakfast buffet with your stay, but this one was exceptional. We were overwhelmed with a variety of cold fish, meats and cheeses, several kinds of muesli and other cereals, fruits, breads, plus the "American" section that included eggs, bacon, potatoes and waffles on request. It was by far the most extensive buffet we'd seen and everything was fresh and good. The pool was great and the staff was family friendly, too.
When visiting the Hilton in Luxembourg, note that it is up on a hill above the center of town. If you are not driving yourself, then you will need to arrange a shuttle pick up through the hotel.
There are many local attractions in Luxembourg. We enjoyed the Museum of the City of Luxembourg, and of course you can't miss the great shopping on pedestrian-only streets. Porcelain mavens will get a laugh when they see Villeroy and Boch toilets in the restrooms. For those of you who are not familiar with the famous brand of china, it's like pissing on Waterford. Want one of your own? The factory store is nearby. If you're up for a short drive, history buffs can visit the Battle of the Bulge memorial.
