Hotel Opening Rates :: The Opus Montreal

The people behind the Opus Hotel in Vancouver have just announced a new property, The Opus Montreal which is now open. (Note: It was formerly the Hotel Godin.) And to celebrate the opening, the hotel is offering 10 percent off hotel rooms that are booked through the website, along with complimentary parking.
We found a standard type room, which is called Privilege and is about 325-350 square feet, for $224 for tonight. You can also choose from the Junior Suites, Executive Suites, Diplomatic Suites and the Presidential Suite which is a two-story penthouse with killer views (pictured above.)
The rooms have very modern minimalist design and it seems as if no expense was spare on the bathrooms. Most rooms have either a deep soaking tub or a glass walled 'rain shower' or both. As far as high-tech amenities, all rooms at the hotel feature 27-inch LCD TVs, high-speed internet and a work desk with ergonomic chair. There's also 24-hour room service and your cats and dogs are allowed for a fee.
Later this month, the hotel will unveil its lounge which is described as:
The Yabu-Pushelberg design includes dramatic glowing light-strip paneling, a stylish mezzanine, steel sculptures by artist Scott Eunson and a 30 foot Cardosa marble bar.
Certain to appeal to seasoned travelers and discerning local clientele alike, its heated outdoor terrace will be a three-season venue while the indoor space will be a sought-after year round destination.
Additionally, the hotel plans to open its 9000 square foot restaurant fronting Sherbrooke Street. But the concept and identity are "under tight wraps" (i.e. still no plans) so you'll have to wait until spring 2008 to see what comes of this space.

Hotel Godin :: Location, Location, Location

Hotel Godin is all about location. If you want to stay in a boutique hotel and have the Plateau right outside your hotel door, this is pretty much the only place to stay.
Walking up Ste-Laurent will take you first through Plateau Mont Royal's party district, full of trendy bars and restaurants, and then through a quiet area of beautiful parks and plenty of residential architecture. Staying on the edge of the Platueau is an obvious alternative to staying downtown, off Ste Catherine street, or staying in the middle of Old Town Montreal. However, you can most definitely hoof it from Hotel Godin to either of the aforementioned areas without an issue.
Ok, so we have established that Hotel Godin's location is top notch, but what about the hotel itself? As usual it really depends what you are after. We experienced great service--timely, thorough housekeeping, a concierge that knew where to send us, and friendly valets. We also enjoyed the sparsely decorated yet functional, decent sized rooms. On the other hand, Hotel Godin doesn't have a bar (yet), or a fully operational restaurant (they do serve a good breakfast daily), and the hotel charges $10.99 for daily WiFi Internet service (it is free in the lobby).
Without a bar or a restaurant, there is no hotel scene to speak of at Godin, but if you step outside your door you will find plenty to keep you occupied all the way until 3 AM.

Killer View: Hotel Godin
We are suckers for a room with a killer view. We find that we are even more likely to forgive some minor hotel inconveniences if we can stare out the window at something pretty--yeah we are that shallow. Let's help out our fellow hotel mavens by uploading rooms with killer views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. We will feature our favorites in this space from time to time. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number of the hot view.

Hotel Godin's room 428 provides guests a view of both down Sherbrooke and up Ste-Laurent--not bad at all. As the view hints at, it is the location of this boutique hotel that sets it apart from the old town boutique hotels--from Godin Plateau, Mile End, Downtown and Old Montreal are all easily reachable on foot. Le Plateau is just outside the hotel's front door.

Montreal's Hotel Godin
The folks over at Cool Hunting are gushing about Montreal's Hotel Godin. The property sits on one of the trendiest corners of Montreal at St. Laurent and Sherbrooke, right next to Le Plateau, and with rooms starting at $200 Canadian it definitely gives W, Hotel Gault and the other hip hotels in Montreal some competition.
According to Cool Hunting the highlights are the gym, the service and the hotels overall gorgeousness:
The lobby, with its clean lines and long runway-like hall, leads to one of the better in-hotel gyms I've ever seen. More than twice the size of other hotels, it has state-of-the-art equipment and an assortment of free weights and dumbbells (mind you, I merely appreciated the facility, and never indulged in exercising).
Overall, I was really impressed with not only how gorgeous the hotel was, but also with the staff's attentiveness. Many times, when you check in to an upscale boutique joint, your room rate includes some snobbery and slight attitude dished out by hotel staff. Not here. Nothing but first-class grace.
