The Hoxton Hotel Goes All Designer On Us

The Hoxton Hotel London, famed for its £1 room sales, has gone all designer on us. Taking inspiration from its fashionista location in Shoreditch the hotel has asked three designers, Project Orange, Suzy Hoodless and Adrian Kilby to each design a Hoxton bedroom of the future.
As we speak each of the 3 rooms are being tested by regular guests and their feedback will help choose the winning room design. We managed to sneak a peek inside the room designed by Suzy Hoodless.
The room is 'industrial chic' and pays homage to the East London clubs nearby with mock concrete walls and low lighting. Instead of a wardrobe there is a dress painted on the wall with coat hangers for your clothes and a big black leather chair. The stylish black tiled bathroom was our favourite part of the room with rain shower and more concrete, this time on the floor.

The Hoxton's 1 Pound Sale Begins Again Tomorrow
Here's what you could get for £1 in London, if you're quick and nimble enough.
Have all our London stories made you jealous? Want to hit the pond without breaking the bank on a hotel room? The Hoxton's popular £1 Sale starts tomorrow at 12pm, Londontime.
The sale has 500 rooms at £1 and another 500 rooms at £29, both of which must be booked between February 1 and April 30. (Darnit, we were hoping to secure a £1 room for September.
As you may recall, HotelChatter secured a £1 room a few months back and we have to recommend our strategy for securing the low, low rate--book a weekday months in advance as most people are trying to snatch up the nearest weekend dates.
Booking that random day should surely secure you a £1 room with free WiFi which will greatly ease your budget in London. Yes, the WiFi is free!

Johnny Depp is Coming to Hoxton, Will He Stay at the Hoxton Hotel?

Just how great is Johnny Depp? Very great. So great in fact that he is, according to Spoonfed, “negotiating a one-off performance” with indie band Babybird in the Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen on November 12.
Where might he be staying? Well there’s only one option round that way: the Hoxton Hotel, so if he wants to make a night of it, he should probably stay here. In fact, we like to think he snapped up one of the £1 rooms in the sale this month and decided to throw in a gig as thanks to the people of Hoxton.
Whatever. Rooms for 12 November are costing £184.98 at the moment, which sounds a bit steep to us (we said when we stayed there that we’d pay up to £120). But then, a potential glimpse of the Deppster in the bar is probably priceless.

Flex Those Fingers: The Hoxton's £1 Sale is Back Next Thursday

Wow, is it really that time of year already? It only seems like yesterday we were declaring our £1 room at the Hoxton Hotel the best value ever – and now it’s time to have a go at getting another one.
The hotel’s fabled £1 sale is back next Thursday, 1 October, at 12pm GMT (that’s 7am for East Coasters and too early to conceive of for those further west.)
The rules are the same as ever – 500 rooms for £1, 500 consolation prizes of £29, and nearly 80,000 people trying to book them.
Last time, the £1 rooms sold out in 4 minutes to smugsters like us, so you’ll have to be quick – we suggest going for a weekday several weeks down the line to maximise your chances. As long as it’s not the one we were thinking of – we’re looking forward to playing paper, scissors, stone with those cushions again…

A Work Geek's Dream For Just £1: Inside the Hoxton Hotel
You know that warm feeling you get when you snag a nice hotel room for a song? Well forgive us for sounding smug, but we are currently basking in the afterglow of what we can say with complete conviction was the best deal we’ve ever got on a hotel. Because last Thursday, we spent the night in the snazzy Hoxton Hotel for just £1 – yup, $1.66.
We’ve been meaning to hit up the Hoxton’s famous £1 sales for months now, but kept remembering a few minutes too late to bag one of the rooms (they sell out in about 4 minutes). So at the last one, in July, we prepped up.
We pre-registered our details to save precious seconds, stuck the sale date in our computer’s calendar, and decided to go for a weekday, a couple of months in advance – thinking most people would try and snap up the up-and-coming weekends. And we were right. Two minutes later, we were printing out our confirmation number.

Do Soho House 'Lite' At The Hoxton Grill
Soho House and Shoreditch House in London: nice places once you’re in them, shame about the hundreds of pounds and membership forms you have to throw at them to get there (or the chatting up of member-y types if you can’t afford the fees yourself).
Tired of buttering up the members pretty much after our first visit (and not having a spare few hundred quid up our sleeves), we decided our relationship with the Soho House group was not meant to be. But right now, we might just rethink things a little, because the Hoxton Grill restaurant has just joined the group.
The restaurant is part of the trendy Hoxton Hotel (that of the famous £1 sales). To cut the mustard in the Soho House family, it’s been put through a refurb and brought out a new menu: a three course lunch will set you back just £15.
Sounds like it’s going to be one to check out. And not just for snobbo reasons Soho House does excellent comfort food, so hopefully the Grill will follow suit. Plus, you can rest smug in the knowledge that you’re getting a Soho House experience (let’s call it Soho-lite) without shelling out for the membership like the other suckers. That’s our feel-good thought for the day.

Rooms Are Going For £1 at the Hoxton Hotel Again
It’s back again: the trendsters Hoxton Hotel are throwing another one of their famous £1 sales (yes, really, a room for just £1, all in).
The sale starts tomorrow at 12pm UK time (i.e. 7:00 a.m. EDT). There are 1000 bedrooms going cheap, for stays between August 1st and October 31st, 2009. 500 of them are going for £1, and 500 for £29.
You’ll have to get to it quickly, though. Last time, all rooms went within 11 minutes and we weren't quick enough to snag one for ourselves. If you’re unlucky, the best deal you’ll get is a weekend rate in July for £96.89. Better start working them fingers, no?

Surprise, Surprise: London On The Cheap Is A Success

Who’d have thought it? Looks like offering hotel rooms for a ridiculously low amount of money gets people through the doors. The Hoxton, which sold off 500 of its rooms for just £1 ($1.50) last month, saw them go in just seven minutes. Even the relatively expensive next tier up, where another 500 rooms went for £29 ($40) in the same sale), sold out within 13 minutes.
According to the hotel, there were 60,000 people gunning for those 1,000 rooms. Including us – we were on an ill-timed coffee break when the sale started, checked in on it five minutes down, and saw a precious £1 room disappear as we were typing in our pesky credit card details.

Hoxton Hotel Rooms for £1 (But It's Fastest Finger First)

There’s not much you can usually find in London for £1, unless your shopping list consists of a Big Ben magnet or a couple of postcards of the royals. Even Tube tickets have just gone up to £1.60 a pop.
Except, on Thursday, for a few minutes only, you can stick a hotel room onto that list, because the trendy-but-budget Hoxton Hotel is having another of its regular £1 sales. At noon London time (that’s 8am, EST), they’re putting up 500 rooms – which means nearly six a night, according to our calculations – between 1 February and 30 April for just £1, or $1.39 according to today’s exchange rate.
If you don’t nab one of those, there are 500 more for £29, and others for £59 and £79 – which still isn’t bad for Frette sheets, free WiFi and a breakfast bag from the owner’s trendy sandwich chain, Pret a Manger.
You’ll have to be quick though – last time round, all 1000 rooms sold out within 11 minutes, so make sure you’ve tanked up on coffee before you hit the mousepad.

Hooray for the Hoxton: London for Less Than a $100 a Night

HotelChatter contributor and current London resident Annabel sends us her hotel pick for London on the cheap.
As the US dollar continues to flounder like a hooked fish, London is perhaps not the most realistic option for many an American traveler. Well, at least it wasn't before the Hoxton Hotel came along. And where other budget hotels in the city look like your grandmother's holiday home circa 1942, the Hoxton Urban Lodge is a new, super-stylish facility in the heart of London's trendiest precinct - what more could you want?
From just £59 per night in the low season you can enjoy all the necessities the Hoxton has to offer including Frette linen, duck down duvets, free WiFi internet and a free Lite breakfast from Pret comprising a yoghurt, banana and orange juice.
Athletic types can run 500m down the road to the Market Sports Gym, where a fiver will entitle you to a workout, towel and locker key upon presentation of your room card. Non-athletic types can hit up The Grille restaurant which offers affordable food in a relaxed, bistro-style environment.
Whether you're in town for business or pleasure, the adjacent streets of the bustling East End provide no shortage of enticing nightlife options for the young and young-at-heart, whilst nearby tourist attractions include St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, the Tate Modern and Covent Garden.
Now taking bookings up until December 2008, grab a room now while the price is right.

Hoxton Hotel is Cheap and Easy

The Hoxton Hotel in London has gotten much press since its opening last summer. Largely because its a budget hotel in an extremely expensive city that manages to stay hip without skimping on the amenities that we like in a hotel. Oh and offering an opening rate of one pound a night didn't hurt either.
Now the NY Times weighs in on the place. Heather Timmons has fairly good things to say about the hotel, keeping in mind that rooms are now going for less than $200. What we learned is that the hotel has picked up on minimalist hotel trends like voyeuristic bathrooms as a way of saving some cash:
Chaos struck when we tried to find the bathroom door -- after pulling and tugging on metal hinges and anything that seemed likely to slide or snap open, I called the front desk. "It's quite possible your room has no bathroom door," the receptionist told me. "They are mirrors, which break easily," she said. She asked me whether I was alone, and when I said no, murmured condolences but didn't offer another room with a bathroom door.
On the bright side, the linens are Frette, the mattresses are comfortable and the rooms overall are stylish and in no way resembling the budget hotel of yesteryear.
The Grille restaurant there has surprisingly good food and as for breakfast, the hotel drops off a Pret-a-Manger bag of OJ, banana and yogurt at your door and each room comes with hot-water kettle, free milk and mineral water in the in-room refrigerator.
The major downsides seem to be the lack of housekeeping unless it's requested and a large stain on the imitation leather headboard.
Hmm...maybe if there was housekeeping there wouldn't be any such stains.

The Hoxton Grille: Cheap London Hotel Has Surprisingly Good Food

From the hotel that brought you rooms for one pound a night comes not only cheap but decent London rooms but also a tasty restaurant.
Food blogger Londonelicious gives The Hoxton Grille at the Hoxton Hotel a big thumbg=s up (and although she doesn't reveal how much she paid, it was probably more than one pound). But you don't usually get something for nothing, and this gal loved the starter, for a start:
I had the melon and prosciutto starter and it was perfect. They had drizzled something on it that made it extra special. I wish I knew what it was.
Any guesses? She didn't think to ask the staff, probably because she wouldn't have known whose attention to grab:
Our server was really friendly and nice and gave us some great recs on the menu and the wine list. But then he disappeared, never to be seen again. That being said, the woman who took his place was quite charming and helpful and friendly too. In between though, the friendly guy forgot our olives, and our wine sat on the bar forever before anyone brought it to us.
Despite the worse-than-average service (or server continuity, at least), Londonelicious raves about this place and especially the food. Worth checking out on your next visit to London, especially if you can snag a one pound room.
