Can't Afford To Live at the Zetter? Buy One of Their Sleeping Bags
We all love sleeping in hotels of course but few of us can afford to do that every day – but now we’ve found a way of staying close to our hotel sheets every day even if we’re not actually inside them – with a new Sleeping Bag from the Zetter.
A Sleeping Bag, you see, is different from a sleeping bag. It’s a tote bag like the rest of those plastic replacement ones, only it’s made from recycled linen from luxury hotels in London and then prettified by London designers (they’ve launched with bags by the likes of Vicki Murdoch, Sir John Hegarty, Tom Dixon and Oonagh O’Hagan).

London's Zetter Hotel to Open a Second Location in May

The London hotel scene continues to be on fire, with new hotels popping up faster than we can keep track. Thankfully, we have a rather strong network of tipsters on the ground who keep us posted on all the new hotels planned for London.
This time, an excellent tipster let us know the next hotel on the block is the The Zetter Townhouse Hotel, sister to our old favourite The Zetter Hotel. The new hotel will be in the same style of The Zetter, well if The Zetter had been built 200 years ago that is. It will be located within a Georgian townhouse and will have the feel of a private residence rather than hotel with just 11 rooms, two suites and a lounge and cocktail bar, all designed by interior designer Russell Sage.

Inside London's Zetter Hotel
Check In @ the Zetter Hotel
London is a slog. Getting from LHR to anywhere in London is arduous. Hiring a cab was the poison we chose, and almost an hour and a half after leaving Heathrow we arrived in the tiny, classic Euro Zetter lobby oh, and it was only 9 AM local time. At this point, we were practically begging for a room at any point before the designated 2PM check-in. The Zet staff, sensing jet lag grogginess grabbed our bags, pointed us to a coffee shop and suggested returning in an hour's time to see about room availability. Sure enough, and hour later we were caffeinated and checked into room 309, which overlooked St. John's Square in the back of the hotel.

Is the Hotel That Can Do No Wrong Doing Wrong?

We, and a few other people we know, have been in love with The Zetter in London for a while now, and after glimpsing the recently snapped photo from Stewf (above), we thought it was about time we check in on that love affair.
Now we're still in love with it because it reminds us of a college dorm room (but with a better bed): the multitasking shelving, cramped closet, and color splash on the bed in an otherwise neutrally colored room.
And while the reviews on TripAdvisor are mostly glowing, there have been a few recent dissenters, which leaves us wondering whether this is the beginning of the end of the affair.
One reviewer said that the "industrial style shutters made me feel like I was in a cell," while another explained how a $119 room turned into $140 room. "Bill hikes at check-out don't amuse me, and along with the rip-off pricing of the snacks…I'd prefer to see the hotel to be 'straight' with the customer—charge what they need to charge to run their business profitably with a clear up-front charge and not try these sorts of tactics."
That hurts. Really hurts.
Can someone set the record straight here? Our faith in love has been shaken, and we're just not sure what to believe anymore.

The Zetter is Better than the Rest

The Zetter Hotel in Clerkenwell, London was recently recognized by the Visit London awards as the Best Small Hotel in 2006 for its style, comfort and eccentricity.
"The Zetter is innovative, creative and different," says Visit London's Chief Executive, James Bidwell, "Close community engagement, great design and architecture, and an ethos which revolves around its customers, mark this hotel out from the crowd.
The Zetter opened in 2004 and was given big-ups for its in-room technlogy including an movies on demand, and a library of 4000 free digital music tracks.
What's even better about this place is that you get Ian Schrager-chic for half the price.

Z for Zetter
New York magazine left the Big Apple to do some exploring in other cities ("For Serious Travelers Only".) When they landed across the pond in London, they found The Zetter Hotel to be "decidedly cheaper and chicer than Schrager's St. Martins Lane."
One guest has the full lowdown:
The room was really nice. Well laid out, a nice terrace with spectacular view and a nice sized bathroom. The shower was a rain dance shower and I didn't want to get out! The bed was comfy, hot water bottle - nice touch although not needed! The room had air con settings which was nice and there were nice quirky extras such as Time Out, books and other magazines.
The downside is that while the place is just about $18 more than the nearby Holiday Inn, ($208 for a weekend room) their food is expensive with one slice of toast costing nearly $5.
