Palos Verdes' Terranea Resort is Offering Rooms for Half-Off

More hotel deals! The Terranea Resort, a luxury oceanfront property in Palos Verdes, just south of Los Angeles, is offering guests 50 percent off its room rates but only for 12 more days. From now through October 27, you can get rooms at the brand new hotel for $210 a night. The special rates are good for stays through December 17. It's even available for reservations over Thanksgiving.
The only caveat is that it does require advance purchase. And while we found opening rates at the hotel over the summer for less (about $145 a night), room rates have since jumped up to about $500 a night. We were able to find a room over Thanksgiving for $261 a night for a resort view king. Ocean views cost $316 a night.
The Terranea is a sprawling resort with tons of activities available during your stay such as hiking the resort's two mile trail, playing golf on a "challenging" 9-hole course, relaxing at the spa and just taking in the awesome Pacific ocean and Catalina Island views. There's even a children's center so you can drop the kids off and actually enjoy your vacation.

Los Angeles is Burning, Luxury Hotel Provides Shelter

The Terranea Resort, unaffected by the current fires, offers shelter to displaced residents.
If you live in Los Angeles, you were probably awakened by the pungent smell of active flames on Sunday morning. And, depending on how close you are to the wildfires currently sweeping La Canada Flintridge and surrounding areas, you may have noticed tiny flecks of ash dotting the windshield of your car as well.
Governor Schwarzenegger has deemed the fires "totally out of control," according to Sky News, while the L.A. Times' "L.A. Now" blog notes that with temperatures having reached the "mid- to high 90s" in recent days, fire conditions have reached extreme new heights.

SoCal's Terranea Resort Opens in a Blaze of Glory
Last week, SoCal welcomed the brand new Terranea Resort, a 360-room ultra-luxe property managed by Destination Hotels and Resorts, and it debuted a pretty serious golf course, a spa and puh-lenty of green practices.
But! Someone on the property wasn't really obeying safety practices! Or, rather, someone made an oopsie: on opening weekend, the $480 million resort in Rancho Palos Verdes was evacuated "after a laundry room caught fire and smoke got into the air conditioning system," according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Yikes.
The fire happened Sunday morning around 11 and, luckily, it was contained to the laundry room and was put out in under an hour but still, not a good way to get going. Or, like, you could call it a blaze of glory, we suppose.
We saw rates down as low as $145 for this place (June 28th), and we checked out a Sunday in July and found a $230 price tag on a resort view room. Hopefully all the bad-opening-things like laundry room fires will be outta the way by then.
