While a debate was going down over Hyatt Regency Century Plaza's landmark status, the hotel took to spiffing up its pool area, adding a new infinity-edged pool and cabanas.

InterContinental Struts Its Stuff In L.A.
Last night, sales and press reps from several of Intercontinental’s hotels in the western U.S. gathered in the ballroom of the InterContinental Century City to tout their hotels to an assortment of travel agents and writers.
The point of the evening seemed to be primarily to introduce the new Andalucia-themed Montelucia Resort in Scottsdale, and to showcase the deft cuisine of French-born Chef Dominique Crenn, whose restaurant, Luce, is at the new Intercontinental San Francisco in SoMa. Luce has already made such an impact on the S.F. foodie scene in its short life that Crenn won Esquire Magazine’s 2008 Chef of the Year Award.
In addition to the edible treats, guests got to check out the toiletry and spa products at a few of the properties, and learned about Intercontinental’s first branded resort, the Montelucia, which was on Conde Nast's 2009 Hot List of New Hotels. The two facts that stood out about the new Arizona property? First, the fact that you can get a room there for just $145 this summer thanks to low season rates; and second, the fabulous Moorish-themed spa with healing crystals and a room that is lit up like the nighttime sky in Granada, Spain. Fancy!
We’ll be sure to bring you new deals from ICH as we get them in, so stay tuned for more.

Who Knew This Hotel Was Worth Saving?

We're actually quite familiar with the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, just a hop, skip and a chauffered drive away from Rodeo Drive, as we once lived near the hotel. We've even spa'd at the hotel's Equinox fitness center and spa and we've gone for drinks at the hotel's X bar. And yes, the world's worst hotel guest, Dennis Rodman has even been arrested here.
However, its massive hotel room/factory appearance and numerous hotel brand changes left us often recommending smaller, more stable hotel brands around Beverly Hills.
But who knew the place had such great history? This was the hotel that hosted the state dinner for moon walkers Neil Armstrong and Buzz O'Neil after they arrived home from their epic voyage.

More Drama for LA Hotels: Dennis Rodman Arrested in Century City

The dramz with celebrities in Los Angeles area hotels continues! This time bad boy retired b-baller Dennis Rodman was arrested at a Century City hotel for a minor altercation with his girlfriend.
TMZ goes back to doing what it does best, obtaining police reports involving celebrities:
Rodman's manager Darren Prince tells TMZ, "Last night Dennis and his girlfriend had too much to drink. When they returned to their hotel they started arguing and a minor altercation broke out where Dennis grabbed her by the arm and left a bruise." Hotel security got involved and called LAPD, who responded and made the arrest.
Rodman blames it all on the drinking and will probably go to rehab. As for the hotel, there's really only one major hotel in CentCity that we can think of, the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza located across from the giant CAA building, the Century City Mall and numerous law firm buildings. It's also got a pretty happening bar/lounge called X Bar. And it's address: Avenue of the Stars.

Nicollette Sheridan Likes Dining Doggie-Style
We always like to discover new pet-friendly hotels here, but never before did we know that the Hyatt Regency in Los Angeles was this animal friendly.
On Thursday the hotel hosts "Dine With Your Dog Day" where the big news is Nicollette Sheridan's appearance and her vow to eat dog food. Yep that's right, when most hotels brag about their new star chefs, the Hyatt will be hosting a celeb feast of chow:
Hollywood is going to the dogs this weekend and "Desperate Housewives" star Nicollette Sheridan will be dining on pooch food to launch the new California incentive. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared Saturday "Dine With Your Dog Day," and he has teamed up with actor Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance dog food company Natural Balance in the hope of showing dog lovers how delicious pet chow can be.
Obviously dining with your dog is more than welcome on Thursday but we'll be interested to see how welcome the canines are after Sheridan has left. That aside, we really hope dog food won't make it onto any permanent Hyatt menus just because it was backed by a celeb.

Westin Century Plaza: Broadband Internet fails under flood of geeks
PC Mag scribe Lance Ulanoff stays at the swank Westin Century Plaza Hotel and Spa on the Westside in LA during an industry event and the hotel's broadband network yacks under the pressure.
Couple quotes from the piece:
My advice to the Marriotts, Hyatts, Westins, MGM Grands, and others is that if you plan on advertising broadband access, build it as if every single room will be using it at the same time (and make sure to throw in ubiquitous Wi-Fi capabilities, too).
If you don't offer all that, then you really don't have a right to advertise that you're "broadband-ready."
Totally agree. Someday these hotels will get the message:
Reliable Internet is very important to travelers
Or they will loose more and more business over this issue.
