We were stalking hotel booking sites yesterday, trying to find you some good hotel deals, when we stumbled upon this Expedia listing for a hotel in Los Angeles called, LA Sky Boutique Hotel. Whatever could this be?
As it turns out, it's the same Sky Hotel that we wrote about back in 2007. (Yup, we've been doing this job too long.) As it turns out the hotel is in the process of changing its name from Sky Hotel to LA Sky Boutique Hotel.
Located in the heart of West Los Angeles on Westwood Boulevard near Pico, close to UCLA, the freeway and the Westside Pavilion mall, the hotel has just 28 rooms, done up in a stylish furniture with sky-inspired colors (lots of blues and light colors). We found rates for this weekend, Memorial Day Weekend, for just $149 for a queen bed guestroom. King beds are just $159. Those rates include breakfast and free WiFi.
A super-small boutique hotel has opened in Los Angeles this past year. The 28-room Sky Hotel reopened out of the old Allagio hotel and has given the place a top-to-bottom modern look.
While the website is super cheesy (a couple walking on a date, business men wheeling and dealing and what we believe is a Hollywood agent laughing about a recent back-stabbing deal), the rooms have adopted that whimsical but modern look we often find in boutique hotels today. Two in LA immediately come to our mind--the Viceroy and the Huntley.
Plus the place has the hip amenities we fussy travelers look for today like high-speed internet, an iPod docking station, flat-screen TVs. It's also 100 percent smoke-free.
But despite the new look, one recent hotel guest said the place has thin walls.
The walls are paper thin. You can hear everything that goes in the courtyard and the rooms next to yours. My neighbor came home at 2am and I heard his entire phone conversation loud and clear. On the positive; bathrooms are large and recently renovated. Nice flat screen tv. Only stay here if you need a place to get a few hours sleep and are expecting nothing else. It doesn't offer anything.
And we bet noise from the outside affects guests as it sits on Westwood Boulevard between Olympic and Pico Boulevards, a particular busy neighborhood. On the other hand, it's close to UCLA, Century City and several shopping centers.
We found a standard room with a queen bed for Friday, November 2nd for $199. That new look is not cheap.

NY Daily News is reporting that the Chateau Marmont has some serious dislike for Posh Spice because she always tips off the paparazzi as to when she will be arriving at the hotel. Maybe the CM has had too much of this drama thanks to Lindsay Lohan who was living there for over a year.
However, the hotel likes Posh's (hot) husband David Beckham, and let's be honest, who doesn't like David?
Also not a big fan of Posh? Britney Spears, who reportedly wouldn't sit at a table next to Posh and left for restaurant Il Sole instead.
But we expect these two to cross paths again in the future as they both share some love for the Four Seasons on Doheny. Posh spent some time blogging there and Britney's been hiding out there from the child welfare agency and K-Fed.
