With the Lakers and Celtics going head-to-head tonight for Game 3 of the NBA finals at the Staples Center, we wanted to check on one of those LA Hotel Picks we rounded up for any fans lookin' for a last-minute place to crash.
So if you're still looking to score a room near the Staples Center, we'd point you toward the Omni Hotel Downtown as the close-but-not-too-close option for bigtime basketball fans -- there's free internet (yay!) and it's near the baller Standard Hotel rooftop bar.
Sweeping views of the city and gorgeous people will help you to either celebrate a sweet victory or drown your sorrows in rounds and rounds of drinks.
You know the scene. You open the door to your brand new hotel room, run over to the window, open the blinds and bam, you are hit with the anti-view. Maybe you are looking down a dirty alley, witnessing a drug deal, staring at an air shaft in the face, or seeing a brick wall. Whatever you are viewing it is not extremely pleasurable. Help out your fellow hotel mavens by uploading your anti-views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number with the not-so-easy-on-the-eyes view.
This hotel might be set, as its website describes, "atop historic Bunker Hill in the heart of sophisticated downtown Los Angeles", but that doesn't mean every room at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel has great views--quite the opposite, in fact. As anti-view picture-taker joelf quite rightly says of the Omni:
It was really nice but sort of in the middle of nowhere. Downtown LA is dead after 8pm. And then the screaming hour starts.
Nice. Still, the Omni in LA has some neat deals if you're not so interested in looking out the windows, with girlfriend weekends, combos with shows and romantic getaways, as well as the It's A Dog's Life package from $289 per night: deluxe accommodation, organic dog biscuits, one dog tag and a free dog-themed in-room movie. That's perfect, because your dog probably doesn't care about the view.
As we mentioned the other day, Omni Hotels are currently hosting an Apple iPhone giveaway at all their North American properties. Yesterday was the final day that entries were excepted and the hotels will be announcing a winner sometime today at 7pm.
Because we have other things to do than wait around for the winner to be announced (like eat dinner and watch Friends reruns) we thought we would just pop in real quick a the Omni Hotel Los Angeles to check out the giveaway display. And here it is.
On the left side of the table is the entry box, which we noticed was pretty stuffed, and alongside the rest of the table are various apples. Cute.
Two other things we would like to make note of--the WiFi in the expansive hotel lobby is free and working spectacular. The bad thing is parking is outrageous at $3.25 for each 15 minutes and the maximum charge is $28. Yikes, good thing we type fast.
From now through Jan. 15 2007, you can coordinate seeing your favorite rock act with this insane package that includes:
· Luxury accommodations in the Presidential suite · a fully-stocked bar · blackout shades · late checkout a "morning after" in-room breakfast
But the clincher is getting VIP transportation to the concert venue in a chauffered limosine stocked with champagne. However, you better hope that you have a wallet of a rock-star since this package will cost you $4000 a night. Oh excuse us, it's actually $3999 a night. That one dollar makes a big difference.
If you are not up to speed on the doll world, let us break it down for you quickly. Each American Girl is from a different decade in American history: Samantha is rich girl enjoying the Victorian era; Molly is a feisty little girl growing up as WWII is going on; Kirsten is an Swedish immigrant whose family pioneers the plains of Minnesota in the mid 1850s.
Substantially larger than Barbie (and less slutty), each girl has her own set of historically accurate outfits, toys, beds, and etc. They cost over $100 and are sold at the American Girl Places in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.
So capitalizing on the frenzy that the American Girl Place in LA's The Grove shopping center has caused since its recent opening, Omni Los Angeles is offering the "American Girl Package" from $239 per night.
The deal includes a room overlooking downtown LA, American Girl products and amenities, a $25 gift certificate, an in-room "American Girl" bed for dolls, hot-fudge sundae for two, American Girl magazine, breakfast for two, and complimentary valet parking.
But the hotel is located downtown whereas the Grove is located in the Miracle Mile/Fairfax district, so plan out your car situation beforehand.
Or if you book the extreme American Girl package for $899, roundtrip transpo is included along with a junior suite, and a $200 gift certificate.
Not a very feminist name for a package deal, but if you are into housewifery and vacationing from it, charge the bill to hubby. The package entitles you to "Desperate Housewives Dirty Laundry" board game, poker sets and other fun slumber party games will be available for check out from the hotel's front desk, bottle of wine, VIP turndown, and deluxe room accommodation.
Omni is located in downtown Los Angeles (a 20-minute drive on the 10 freeway from Beverly Hills) practically on the doorstep of MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art), and many rooms have great views of the Walt Disney Concert Center. Good thing rooms are large. Girls need a lot of space for painting nails and gossiping about men).
