Another sign that Luxor is trying its darndest to become the #1 hotel amongst the younger party crowd? Sports Illustrated will be holding its "Swimsuit Issue 2009" party at the LAX nightclub inside the resort/casino on Thursday night.

The Club SI Swimsuit, presented by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor's Authority (LVCVA), will take place on February 12th at the LAX Nightclub located inside the Las Vegas Luxor Hotel and Casino. The party will mark the culmination of a week of activities and events surrounding the launch of the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. More than a dozen SI Swimsuit models featured in the acclaimed annual will travel to Las Vegas for a autograph signing meetings, photo sessions and to attend the first Sports Illustrated party held in Las Vegas.

And just in case you wanted to know the models will be traveling on a dedicated Southwest plane from New York to Las Vegas on Wednesday night. The plane will actually be decked out in Swimsuit Issue imagery so we're guessing Bar Rafaeli, the cover girl, will be splashed along the body of the plane. Lucky gal.

The Luxor's Twitter feed also mentioned that they have some invites to giveaway. We're not quite sure how to get 'em but DMing Luxor probably couldn't hurt.

Anyone on the ground in Las Vegas attending the event? Let us know how it goes.

Criss Angel Tickets Are 40% Off and We "Believe" We Know Why

Criss Angel fans and curious types who tend stare at car wrecks longer than normal: rejoice! The Criss Angel "Believe" tickets are now being heavily discounted!

We give this show such a hard time, we know — but so far we have literally heard and read nothing but bad reviews. We learned a couple of weeks ago that there were many, many empty seats at recent shows, which meant terrible things for its host hotel, the Luxor, who invested $100 million dollars in the production (which is supposed to run for 10 years).

And we learned today via the Luxor Twitter that you can score yourself Criss Angel "Believe" tickets for 40% off. This spells trouble for the Luxor, Cirque du Soleil and Mr. Angel, but it means you may have a very, very happy holiday (or buy tix as a gift for that coworker that you don't like because he yawns too loudly). Have at it.

Even Taxi Drivers Are Hating on Criss Angel's "Believe"

We're almost starting to feel bad about giving Criss Angel's Cirque du Soleil show at the Luxor, "Believe", so much crap. The show's clearly got issues — and when we read the first line of an Richard Abowitz's LA Times story this morning, we were feeling like the meanest kids on the playground: he introduced the show as "roundly trashed by critics," (we covered that), "thoroughly mocked on the Web," (us again!), "and even had its celebrity opening ridiculed" (yup, we did that too).

But we said we almost felt bad. We've been quiet about the show since we covered all the absolutely brutal reviews of the show and its lackluster opening, and, on the bright side, Cirque du Soleil did claim that "Believe" had sold a whopping $5 million in pre-sale tickets.

Finally, the day of reckoning has come for Criss Angel and his Believe show at the Luxor Las Vegas.

After a seriously terrible run of preview shows, Believe is holding its official opening and gala tonight. This is where hopefully Criss and Cirque du Soleil have worked out all the kinks that have plagued the show previously.

But just in case, the show isn't taking any chances of hearing bad reviews. According to the LuxorLV Twitter page, no media is allowed.

Also, the gala party is apparently going until 10am the next day. We don't know about you but the last time we pulled an all-nighter of drinking we don't remember anything that we did in the days before. Maybe that is the goal?

Look Who Came Out for the Grand Opening of Tacos and Tequila at the Luxor

Earlier this week, the Luxor threw a grand opening bash for their classy new eatery, Tacos and Tequila. Worried about the reality of their possible $100 million mistake with Criss Angel, they invited Tila Tequila to set things right in the eyes of the public again.

The hotel also threw in Carrot Top, Criss Angel himself and a bunch of half-naked dudes from Thunder from Down Under. Because nothing says delicious tacos and refined tequila like fake reality show bisexuals and chest wax.

Luxor Strives to Keep Up Its Reputation as Suxor

Where: 3900 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], Las Vegas, NV, United States, 89119

Luxor continues to roll out their mostly mediocre renovations. They've now opened restaurant T&T and have the world famous BODIES exhibit on display. If you want to be grossed out you could stop by the reviled, hated Criss Angel "Believe" show or stop by the totally cool BODIES exhibit and see just how many muscles it takes to vomit.

Because vomiting is certainly what you'll be doing after T&T.

We're sorry, was that way harsh? Just listen to this, and tell us you don't agree:

T&T embodies traditional and modern elements of Mexican style intermixed with rock-n-roll flair.

Oh and by the way -- the T's stand for Tequila and Tacos.

What? Really, what? Where does the rock-n-roll come from? And why? What is wrong with just plain old delicious Mexican food? Luxor, seriously, stop trying to over do everything.

Whatever, we're worn out from hating on the Suxor. Let's talk about muscles again. Do you think there is a BODIES exhibit that show the effects of too much tequila? That would be cool.

Oh, and we were just kidding about the "Suxor" -- we just thought it made a funny headline. Kinda.

A sneak preview of "Believe" from the Cirque Las Vegas team.

Criss Angel may have "survived" a hotel implosion but will he survive the critics of new show "Believe" which is done in partnership with Las Vegas' acrobatic act, Cirque Du Soleil?

The show was originally set to debut on September 1st inside the Luxor Hotel but was delayed until September 26. The show will be in preview mode from then until October 28th. What does that mean? Well this is what the Believe website says.

During these performances, the creative team is in the very final stages of production. The audience’s reaction and participation is an important step in this process. The artistic team of CRISS ANGEL Believe reserves the right to interrupt the performance to make adjustments as necessary.

Ugh. That does not sound magical at all.

The Luxor Las Vegas is undergoing a much-needed renovation and we got the tingles when we saw this tweet from their Twitter feed.

Nintendo Wiis at the Luxor? Sounds kind of amazing. Note the tweet says "some of our rooms" so we're guessing they are probably going to be in the suites. Can't have people playing Wii Tennis in one of those pyramid rooms.

We've been keeping tabs on hotels that offer gift cards and today we can add the Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas to the list.

The cards are available inside the hotel at the spa, the business center and Essentials gift shop. Up to $2,500 can be loaded onto the card and it can be used at "participating merchants at participating MGM MIRAGE Properties."

According to the website the card can be used towards accommodations, a wedding in the wedding chapel, most of the restaurants and nightlife spots, Criss Angel's BELIEVE show and pretty much all of the shopping. Sadly, you can't use it at the craps table.

Criss Angel's Show at the Luxor to Debut September 1

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 3900 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], Las Vegas, NV, United States, 89119
May 27, 2008 at 2:08 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

We told you a few weeks back that Criss Angel was gearing up to do a show at the Luxor and despite our nightly prayers to God, this show is definitely happening.

Criss Angel's new magic show with Cirque du Soleil called "Believe" will open at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas on September 1. Tickets are already on sale for the show which was inspired by the code word Harry Houdini said he would use to communicate with people after his death--Believe.

The show will feature Criss Angel as:

A surreal, enigmatic Victorian Noble. Along a path of imaginative exploration, he encounters Kayala and Crimson, two women who represent different aspects of femininity, four bizarre Ushers, who will introduce the audience to the baroque theater of Criss’s mind and a high-energy troupe of characters and dancers who mix a multitude of styles into a high-energy visual feast, punctuated by moments of grace and sensuality.

The preview performances will run from September 1-11 with the Gala Premiere being held on the 12th. Ticket prices range from $59-$150. Some good news does come out of all of this. We hear that the Luxor is getting a complete overhaul of all of its 4,408 rooms and suites. Which as we noticed back in late December is very necessary.

Hotel Video Tour: Inside the Luxor Tower's 'Renovated' Rooms

Go To The Hotel's Web

While the Luxor Hotel & Casino has done its best to offer exciting nightlife and dining options as of late, the guestrooms are more than deserving of the hotel's nickname, the Suxor.

This is a video of room 1314 in the Luxor's adjacent tower where rooms were renovated about a year ago. The woman at the front desk kept assuring us it was a nice room compared to the rooms inside the pyramid (which we feared had bed bugs), so we decided to pay $20 for a total of $139 and upgrade to a renovated room.

This is what we got. Hardly what we expected from a "renovated" room. Another thing that skeeved us out was that this room is actually on the tower's first floor just beyond the elevators. So you pretty much walk straight from the lobby to your room.

Since we didn't feel safe there, we opted to take back our original reservation inside the pyramids where the rooms were still pretty ghastly (that Egyptian decor and fake hieroglyphics can never be cool) but at least a little larger-sized.
