We're thinking that the La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa made a stack of dough out of their $5,000 painting deal, because they're currently spending $6.2 million on a renovation. Due to be completed by May this year, the redesign also includes a new restaurant.

The redesign on the interior includes the influence of indigenous cultures--the Museum of New Mexico Foundation got involved to design indigenous fabrics and prints for the guest rooms and public areas. They're also going for a more customer-friendly feel in the lobby, including individual check-in desks rather than one long check-in counter.

The new restaurant is the Viga, which will be open for all meals and have a casual atmosphere. This will leave their four-diamond restaurant Fuego to get a furniture upgrade and to concentrate on serving fine dinners only. It will also get a new street entrance so non-hotel guests can easily access the restaurant. Or is that so that hotel guests don't feel disturbed by any locals? Whatever the case, you can check it out yourself from next month.

Ski Hotels 2008: La Posada's Two Night Special

Last time we heard from La Posada de Santa Fe Resort and Spa they wanted us to drop some serious coin on art to score a free night. Now they've put together a much more reasonable package for ski bums. Two days worth of lift tickets, breakfasts and accommodations for two are starting at $476 a night, and you'll get a massage, too.

The Ski Santa Fe resort is just 16 miles north of town, situated on a 12,053-foot-high mountain. That gives 'em plenty of room for 67 runs and a 1,700+ vertical drop. Right now, temperatures are just below freezing, and there's five feet of snow on the ground.

The hotel deal nets you a 10 percent savings over what you'd pay a la carte. (Your "resort fee" and parking are included in the price.) The only problem, of course, is that you'll have to fight over who gets that single massage.

Wanna get two nights' free accommodation at the La Posada de Santa Fe Resort and Spa? It's easy, you just have to spend a measly $5000 on paintings and they'll put you up at the resort for nothing.

Sounds easy, and if you're an art lover, it probably is. If you sign up for the the Santa Fe Art Excursion Package, you'll get a credit for five thousand bucks at the Waxlander Gallery and Sculpture Garden. This package will give you two nights at the La Posada de Santa Fe just down the road from the gallery, and this includes unlimited use of the spa and fitness rooms.

You have to visit between now and December 31 to take advantage of this offer. So free up a few walls at home, take your next vacation in Santa Fe and bring home something new for your eyes to enjoy.

A Merry Hotel Christmas: Eldorado Hotel

While most people prefer to be home for the holidays, others like to get away. And no one wants you to get away more than hotels.

The Eldorado Hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico is currently offering a SANTA Fe Holiday Package (yes, the emphasis is on Santa) as a way for you to celebrate the season Southwestern-style.

With rooms starting at $209 a night, the package includes accommodations, dinner for two at the award-winning The Old House restaurant and several options to check-out the city's holiday festivities, depending on which time you visit.

For instance, if you plan on being there over Dec. 11, you can catch the city's Las Posadas, a traditional outdoor procession that reenacts Mary and Joseph's search for a room on Christmas Eve. Or if you stop by Dec. 18, you can get tickets to the Merry New Mexico Christmas musical celebration, featuring harpist Rosalind Simpson and the Santa Fe Desert Chorale. And for those with children looking to see Santa can visit Dec. 9 when the Palace of Governors has their annual holiday open house.

Guests can also do their Christmas shopping in town (perfect for art lovers) or they can head up to the nearby Ski Santa Fe for some snow.

As for spending time within the hotel, each of the 219 hotel rooms have their own private balconies and Kiva fireplaces. The hotel also has a spa and heated rooftop pool and jacuzzi where you can do some holiday-stress relieving. But past guests warn that this is not a luxury hotel and "if you are looking for a nice and clean 'trying to be upscale' hotel, this is a great place to stay.

Another guest recommends skipping the hotel parking which costs $16 for the $3 lot across the street.
