Mrs. Tennessee's Snakebite at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort 'Worse Than Childbirth'

This might take the prize for this week's wackiest hotel news story: Last Sunday, Mrs. Tennessee, a contestant in the 32nd Mrs. America contest, was bitten by a rattlesnake while walking to rehearsals at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, where the pageant has been underway since August 22. The wily herp sunk its fangs into her foot and slithered away.
Mrs. Idaho, a trained nurse and fellow contestant, removed the fang, paramedics arrived and Mrs. Tennessee, a.k.a. Christina Ryan, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. She said the pain between the time of the bite and the time the anti-venom meds kicked in was worse than childbirth. The 28-year-old event planner has an eighteen-month old. Mrs. Tennessee spent the night in the hospital.
Apparently, she does not begrudge the resort. Mrs. Tennessee was back at Loews Ventana Canyon the next day, according to press reports. Fox News -- those snakes! -- wondered if there was some sort of "Miss Congeniality" plot behind the snake bite.

Desert Heat Comes at High Price

The nightly rate for the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Arizona is pretty steep at $520 for a double. But with the Desert Escape package, you can save 20 percent off the room, and get daily breakfast for two, plus a choice between a round of golf on one of the resort's two golf courses or a 75-minute treatement at the Spa & Relaxation center.
But beware, the resort is still expensive even though you are getting a deal on the room as one guest found out.
What was really surprising though this time, and others mentioned it, was how they nickel and dime you to death... Plenty of parking spaces, but you get charged an extra fee for parking, even though you're paying several hundred a day for a room... Significant charges for internet access, and you have to order from the restaurant just to get a cup of coffee... (I opted for the five minute drive to Starbucks every morning...) I never experienced this type of routine extra charge for every little thing at a luxury hotel before.
The "deal" is good through April so if you can afford it, go dry out your soggy winter cold selves.
