Whenever we get tips fawning over this or that hotel, we’re always suspicious. So when this review came through our inbox, our BS-radar went on high alert:
I stayed at this place a little while ago and it is just magical. A nice, quite [sic] lodge, away from the town but still pretty close to everything, like Vail and Beaver Creek … I would recommend this place to people who want to get away from the rush, with their partner or for a family weekend.
So what was the hotel and what did we find out?
The hotel is The Lodge & Spa at Cordillera, in Edwards, CO. Its web site professes to be “one of the most luxurious retreats in the world … inspired by a chateau in Belgium.” Its 55 rooms all have patios or balconies, some with fireplaces. Rates start at $207 per night, and on top of that, there’s a total of 12.75 percent in taxes and fees, which includes Wi-Fi, valet parking, ski shuttle to Vail and Beaver Creek, fitness center access and access to the Cordillera Mountain Club at Beaver Creek and the Cordillera Club at Vail.
Now, on to the important part… Is it worth it? Let’s break it down.
In this day and age it's totally not unusual to walk into your local mani-pedi place and spy at least one if not two men having some treatments done. So why should hotel spa getaways only cater to women?
That must be what The Lodge at Cordillera in Colorado thought as they are offering a Men's Spa Boot Camp Package. But it's not all facials, mud baths and massages. The hotel, a RockResort, is offering guys two nights of luxury accommodations, along with one full day of either an ice climbing lesson or a snowmobile rental.
Guys can experience the sensation of climbing up a frozen waterfall with a private ice-climbing lesson. Numerous ice climbs form each year, from easy slabs to a 120-foot free- standing pillar of ice known as "The Fang." Guests can also opt to enjoy a rush of adrenaline, spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains, and lots of snow as they cruise through the Rockies on their very own snowmobiles.
Then the guys are offered a Mountain Man spa treatment which begins with maximum buffering scrub involving Dead Sea salts, dried sugar cane and magnesium oxide crystals. The rough treatment is followed by an herbal liniment rub and an herbal spice lotion massage. Now that should soothe those manly muscles, shouldn't it?
The package start at $246 for a two-night minimum stay and is available from now through March 23rd. Don't worry ladies. The hotel is still offering their Girl's Night In package too.
The snow is already falling out west, and if you are thinking about a snow vacation, but want to try and save some cash, you may want to check out packages between now and the end of the year at villages around the world.
Many resorts offer their lowest prices in the spring and the fall, and many years you can catch great mountain conditions at the beginning or end of these lower priced periods. Check around. We found a "Romance in the Rockies" package at The Lodge & Spa at Cordillera, which is located 25 minutes from both Vail and Beaver Creek, for $690.
The package includes two nights in a mountain-view room, a fireplace, daily breakfast, dinner for two, and a one-hour massage for each person. You can secure this "Fall" package through December 17th and save almost 50% off the regular package price.
