Grand Lake Lodge in Grand Lake, Colorado is located approximately 8,700 feet above sea-level at the Western end of the Rocky Mountain National Park with only rustic pine cabins as your lodging options. So it's not for those who can't take the altitude or the wilderness. And for those who need swank accomodations.

Indeed, reviews of the place confirm that you are roughing it here, but not because of the woodsy locale:

The king-size bed was comfortable, but the bathroom was badly in need of an update . . . drippy shower, no hairdryer, no place to put anything. It had a separate living room, with a sofa and picnic table. There was a full kitchen, with a coffee maker, but no coffee. Gosh, even the cheapest motels give you complimentary coffee! There was no phone and no TV. They keep the property very well-lit at night, so that your room is never dark. Also makes it hard to see the stars.

This kind of review leads us to believe you should spend most of your time exploring outside. The main activities seem to be centered around the lake, like pontooning and kayaking but the water is a little too cold for swimming. You can also go biking, hiking and if you got a hog, you can cruise around on that. Just remember, at night the temperature drops to 40 degrees or colder. So pack some sweaters.

More on the town after the jump.
