A Room for the Night and a 'Dirndl' for Oktoberfest at Munich's Charles Hotel
Boobs. That's what the German Oktoberfest celebrations is all about, right? Wrong, but we're at least close. On September 18th, Munich will tap the first kegs to kick off the month-long festival of beer, brats, bretzeln (pretzels) and yesboobs too. You see, the Bavarian traditional costume for women is a Dirndl, a highly decorated peasant dress of sorts, which is typically specially made and heavy on the cleavage-baring.
If you're thinking of heading to Munich for Oktoberfest this year and you like the look of these Dirndls, the the Rocco Forte Collection property The Charles Hotel at the center of the city has a deal for you: their "Dressed for Oktoberfest" package.

It's Time to Start Prosting Again
Oktoberfest 2008.
Yes, Oktoberfest is back! Or will be back on September 19 with the Lord Mayor of Munich cries, "Ozapft is!" ("It's been tapped"). But if you're planning on making your way to Munich for the festivities, we recommend doing two things.
First, read our tips for Surviving Oktoberfest. We attended it last year and if you'd like not awake the morning after with rain-soaked pants and vomit-covered sneakers, then you'd do well to heed our advice.
Second, checkout the Oktoberfest Package from the Charles Hotel, a Rocco Forte property, in the city's old Botanical Gardens.

Amazing Race 9 Hotel Report: Manics in Munich
We had a premonition that the Amazing Racers would end up in Germany and we were right. (Ok, we got a hint from the previews.)
After some scary trips on the Autobahn and finding the Roaming Gnome, the mad contestants ended up in Munich, near the Siegestor a structure akin to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris that divides the two Munich districts of Maxvorstadt and Schwabing.
If you can read German, check out the Am Siegestor Pensione. If you can't, The Bayerischer Hof Hotel has the option of English.
A luxury hotel which first opened in 1841, the Bayerischer's 395 rooms come with hi-speed internet access, Sony playstations and PayTV. For the American missing the motherland too much, inside is a Trader Vic's restaurant.
Tablet Hotels mentions some of the rooms are decorated with Laura Ashley, "festooned with floral prints and chintz." Ewww. But the hotel recovers from this poor design choice with a rooftop pool area that includes the Blue Spa. We imagine that the Ambiguously Gay Duo aka Jeremy and Erik would probably hit this up first in their fun-colored bathing suits.
As always our nerdy but talented brother, Jaunted has the latest additions to the Chasing Racers map.
