Cubicle Dreamin': Staying in Beckham's Castle
Ever since the English soccer team set up camp here for the 2006 World Cup, I've had a thing about the Buhlerhohe Schlosshotel near Baden Baden in south-west Germany. This is not some Beckham-following-fantasy (I promise) but simply falling in love with this romantic castle stuck up in the Black Forest surrounded by those perfect Christmas pine trees. And while their website blathers on about nearby casinos and shopping, I think they've kind of missed the point, and should simply be offering free helicopter rides so you can get an aerial view of the special German paradise you're staying in.
However, even if you can't get off the ground, the views from the castle hotel into the woods are spectacular enough, and if the weather puts a stop even to that, then simply admiring the hotel itself should keep you satisfied. Just before the Pommies arrived last summer, the entire hotel was redecorated. Standard services include stuff like fireplaces in the bedrooms, limousine services and a personal butler (on request!). Double room rates start from $300 and go all the way up to nearly $3000. For that price you really should get my helicopter trip thrown in.

Outing World Cup Hotels: Team England

The Brits are mad about football and that is just something that we Americans will never really understand, at least when it comes to soccer.
Team England has its sexy star David Beckham aka Mr. Posh Spice to thank for raising its profile and its gaggle of female fans. Perhaps the ladies will be awaiting outside Buhlerhohe Schlosshotel in Baden Baden which the team has rented out just for the tournament.
The Baroque-style castle is a five-star hotel built in 1914 high up in the mountains near the Black Forest. It has 74 rooms and 16 suites, along with a spa, an indoor swimming pool and two golf courses nearby. And much like the hotel Team Brazil is in, this place comes with its own spring water.
Each player's room will be complete with computer and video games, the hotel has added a games room with table-tennis and darts and has turned one suite into the massage and treatment room.
But we're still working on trying to find out Becks' room number.
