Hotel Palomar Dallas Announces Youngest Director of Pet Relations Yet

Look, we can’t help it. We’re suckers for a pet concierge. And this one takes the cake. At just 4 months old, Labrador Retriever Kora is the youngest Director of Pet Relations so far for Kimpton. She started her job at Hotel Palomar Dallas last night, at the property’s Howl-O-Ween Spooktacular party benefiting no-kill animal shelter Operation Kindness.

Your Hacky Sack Skillz Will Score You 50% Off Your Hotel Palomar Rate
Yo, dude: remember the Hacky Sack? Best known (to some generations, at least) as the trademark accessory and sport of choice by 90's high-schoolers who stuck to steady diets of organic popcorn and weed, the Hacky Sack is -- it seems -- poised to make a comeback.
Yeah, we find this curiously random, too, but: Kimpton is bringing the Hacky back. In Dallas, Texas, no less.

Palomar Hotel in Dallas Beats the Local W Hands Down

If you judge your hotel by its TripAdvisor rankings, then the best place to stay in Dallas, Texas is the Palomar Hotel from the Kimpton Hotel group. It's a boutique hotel plus residences that was formerly the Mockingbird Hilton, and we've already drawn parallels between the Palomar and the W Dallas.
Some of the pluses, as told by recent guests to the Palomar, include wine tasting with other guests, great staff, huge televisions and even a quick response time if you need a razor to shave your legs! They're also welcoming to your pets.
Yet since some of the guest reviews also likened the Palomar to a W property, we were surprised to find the W Dallas listed all the way down at #49 on the TripAdvisor rankings. Some of the problems here were guests didn't like the bathroom being so closely combined into the bedroom, below-average service for an above-average price, and a location that's not entirely convenient. Seems like the Palomar is out-W-ing the W!

Hotel Palomar Dallas Is Open for Business and Possibly, So Are Its Guests

On Monday, Dallas got another new boutique property when the Hotel Palomar Dallas opened in the Park Cities neighborhood.
This Kimpton joint (formerly the Mockingbird Hilton) is the chain's first foray into Texas and much like the W Dallas, the hotel features both rooms and residences along with a full-service spa and a swank restaurant, Central 214. Additionally, the hotel has decorated the place with Texans in mind:
As guests arrive, the style of our Dallas boutique hotel is readily apparent. Passing through the entry, guests gaze upward, taking in the 26-foot windows encasing the first floor. Hotel Palomar's open and airy lobby living room evokes the mood of a classic Texan landscape, boasting two-story ceilings, large wood floor panels underfoot and the grand fireplace, a Kimpton signature, as the room's focal point.
Kimpton also seems to think Dallas is full of horny people. We particularly love the photo above, found on the hotel site, which shows a pair of men's cowboy boots on the floor next to a pair of jeans with a big belt. The "lady" apparently stripped off her red dress and heels. That's so Dallas!
The residences are set to open in November but this weekend, if you find yourself bored in Dallas, check out the place for $249 a night. Oddly, the hotel is not offering any special introductory rates. Even Ian Schrager did this!
But it looks like the hotel's pay-for-WiFi trend is just for NYC, as this hotel offers the service for free for guests along with their standard evening wine tasting.
