Sneak Peek at The Hotel Lincoln in Chicago, Opening on March 9
With his hard hat on and patent leather sneakers, our Chicago man about town, Jared Hatch, headed over to forthcoming Hotel Lincoln last week to see what Joie de Vivre has in store for their second boutique property outside of California.
The Hotel Lincoln, situated toward the south end of Lincoln Park, is still pretty raw for an overnighter but Joie de Vivre has assured us it'll be ready and pretty (all 184 rooms) for a March 9th opening. This includes three family suites with bunk beds, lobby with details like a community events cork board and one hell-of-a tricked out rooftop.
It's been inching on completion since last summer when Joie de Vivre decided to take over the previous tenant's construction efforts which just weren't grand enough. Since this happened all the furniture has been altered or upcycled, they've bought original artwork from Marwen, and added an express elevator up to the rooftop.

JDV to Open Second Hotel Outside of Cali with The Hotel Lincoln in Chicago

Perennial Virant, soon to be serving room service at the Hotel Lincoln
The Chicago Hotel Scene just keeps getting hotter. Not only are we awaiting the opening of Ian Schrager's new Public Hotel on September 12 and the first-ever U.S. location of Radisson Blu on Halloween, but now we've got word that Joie De Vivre Hotels will open their second hotel outside of California in Chi-town. (The first is opening soon in Scottsdale.)
The company finalized a management agreement last week for a 184-room hotel near Lincoln Park on North Clark Street. The hotel is currently closed as it undergoes significant renovations (it's being built within a historic landmarked building) but it should open by February 2012 and will be called, Hotel Lincoln. JDV gives us more of the detes here:

Days Inn Lincoln Park Has a Secret, Star-Studded Rock 'n' Roll Past
Tucked away in a strip with an independent movie theater and chain stores like Jamba Juice is an unassuming hotel with a bad-boy rock 'n' rolla past. The Days Inn Lincoln Park is nicknamed the Rock & Roll Days Inn for its musician clientele, which includes Sean Lennon, Twisted Sister, Nelly Furtado, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dave Matthews, KRS One and the Foo Fighters.
It's rumored to be the place where Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain conceived their child, says Stefanie Hrejsa, general manager of the hotel. Years later, Love allegedly walked out of the hotel and said she couldn't stay there because of the painful memories, Hrejsa says.

Spa Package in Chi-town
Looking for a way to honor Grammy-nominee Kanye West?
Visit his hometown of Chicago and indulge in the spa package for four people at the Belden Stratford Hotel (Yes, we realize it's a totally kinky deal but rappers are into that.)
For $109 a night, the package includes a stay in the presidential suite with two double beds, a manicure, express pedicure, facial, the vaguely described "glasses of wine" and valet parking.
If you aren't down with the Spa package and are hitting up the Windy City during the week this winter, room rates are $89. Guest reviews were totally mixed on this hotel, giving it a solid average of three stars but if you are headed to Chicago on a budget, the price is right.

Freshman Away, Parents to Play
College. Every parent's dream and nightmare. The most traumatic bit perhaps is the actual depositing of your son or daughter in the dorm room of their dreams and needing to stay in a place that is close enough for you to ease into your empty nest gradually--you know, be available with your checkbook and stuff.
If your son or daughter chooses to go to school in a large city such as Chicago, there are several hundred hotel options, but when you are dropping over $30,000 for school you probably aren't in the mood for a tricked out hotel. The Lincoln Park Days Inn is a prime spot for dropping your freshman off and reliving your twenties, without putting you further in debt. Unlike other Days Inns, this one is in an old and idiosyncratic building. Odd angled rooms, bath tubs with claws, and in some rooms, courtyard views. The court yard is in fact an asphalt covered roof top with air vents that has been beatified by a plaster/cement living room suit on astro turf lawn/rug, yeah, no kidding. One may have to see it to believe it. This, coupled with the waffle maker in the dining room and the free Bally Total Fitness membership, will make you feel like you never even left your McMansion--well, sort of, remember this isn't the Ritz or anything.
C'mon y'all you gotta go budget once in a while, might as well be at a non rat trap with free WiFi, right?
