Perth's Observation City Hotel Past Its Prime

Now that the kinky gang-member hotel staff have been fired, we can take a proper look at the Rendezvous Observation City Hotel. It's the only high-rise hotel you'll find along the pristine Western Australian coast--its 17 storeys caused a ton of controversy when they were built, and locals would never allow what the consider a monstrosity to be repeated anywhere along the beach. This makes Ob City's views one of a kind in Perth, even if it is suburban Perth, some 6 or 7 miles from the city center.
If you've got a rental car, then the location is actually great, with easy access to attractions like the Hillarys Boat Harbour or a ride over to the island of Rottnest. And of course the gorgeous Scarborough Beach is literally right outside. Inside the hotel is a trickier matter. It was a 5-star hotel in its heyday, but is now really only a 4-star. It's got 327 regular rooms, including newly refurbished Plaza Club rooms on the top 3 floors, and 6 suites with huge balconies overlooking the Indian Ocean.
And one more tip: don't make a booking too far in advance. There are rumblings of redevelopment plans for the Observation City building, including turning it into a smaller boutique hotel and selling parts of it off as luxury apartments. We'll keep you posted.

Real Hotel Sex: Staff Gone Wild
We usually hear of guests acting kinky in hotel rooms, but never the staff. That is until we read this report about the staff at the Rendezvous Observation City Hotel in Perth, Australia.
About a dozen hotel managers and staff, including security team, were fired for "wild parties and drug-fuelled sex orgies" in the hotel rooms.
Some more of the bad behavior includes:
· Senior staff regularly stole dozens of cartons of alcohol from the hotel and loaded them on to a truck during night shifts.
· Staff stole televisions and even beds from vacant hotel rooms.
· Security guards sold drugs to staff.
· Staff used the hotel's exclusive suites for regular sex romps during shifts.
· Staff pocketed hundreds of dollars by short-changing guests on bar tabs during functions at the hotel.
Apparently, the security team at the hotel were the ringleaders for most of the antics as almost all of them were part of a notorious biker gang, Coffin Cheaters.
So if you walked out of the Rendezvous short of change, then you know what happened to it. But we wouldn't suggest trying to get it back.
