Um, Which Network Should We Sign Onto?

So remember in our 2011 Hotel WiFi Report we told you to only sign onto the hotel's networks? Yeah, well, we really mean that.
This is the list of networks that popped up when we logged on at the Canyon Ranch Miami Beach. The WiFi required a passcode but we had to make sure we were signing onto the right network to get it and to ensure a safe connection. (That would be CRGUEST, not theranch and definitely not Swallowmyload.)
More good news from the Canyon Ranch? We signed on with both an iPad and a laptop and both were totally free. Canyon Ranch obviously doesn't want us stressing about internet charges while relaxing at their hotel. We just wish these hotels thought the same thing.

This is Not Your Usual Hotel Cheeseburger and Fries
Usually when we arrive at hotels, thanks to a long day of travel and the odd hotel check-in hour of 3pm, we're starving, bad. So once we get the room tour, unpack the bags, admire the view, we dial up room service and order a menu staple--cheeseburger and fries.
But at the Canyon Ranch Miami Beach which is all about healthy living and getting your diet back on track, there's no such thing as a cheeseburger and fries. There is however THIS--a Southwestern veggie burger served on a whole wheat roll and topped with avocado, lettuce, tomato and pico de gallo. On the side to much on? Healthy coleslaw.
It may be hard to believe but it was quite tasty. So much so that we ordered it from the Canyon Ranch Grill downstairs the next day. But true to spa cuisine, the portions are small and you don't feel very full. So you may have to order something else. Fortunately, each item on the menu lists the caloric intake to prevent you from totally binging.
Even better, the prices reflect the portion size. That burger is only $11. Most hotel burgers are $14 or more.

Dropping In On The Wellness Wonderland That is Canyon Ranch Miami Beach
During a whirlwind visit to Miami last week, we headed north, away from the madness of South Beach, and paid a visit to the Canyon Ranch Hotel & Spa Miami Beach. Like the other Canyon Ranch properties, you can totally do the immersion spa experience here—to detox, lose weight, or just plain get well—but since this is Miami, you don't have to be a goody two-shoes about it.
You can have a plain old hotel stay, and even drink booze while you're at it. (It's organic, but just be happy they have it. Miami is the only Canyon Ranch location to serve alcohol.)
The hotel and spa (as well as the Canyon Ranch condos) are a $15-cab ride away from the heart of South Beach, but step inside the large, cool lobby and you immediately realize that this is a good thing. Up here in North Beach, the hotel has the benefit of space, the absence of a 'scene', and the convenience of being much closer to the water.
The picture above was taken from the patio outside the restaurant—the sand up here is much narrower than down on South Beach, meaning you can step outside and be right on the beach.

Bliss Out Instead of Bingeing Before the New Year at Canyon Ranch Miami Beach

Come January 1st, many of you will be atoning for a holiday spent bingeing on champagne, sweets, and other seasonal vices. Kick starting the new year on a healthy note is no easy feat, even for the most disciplined among us, so it's a good idea to start thinking about self-care before the allure of caviar and egg nog come calling.
Though Miami Beach is associated more with party culture than it is spa culture, Canyon Ranch Miami Beach is shifting the travel hotspot's focus with several healthy living packages.

Your Wellness Retreat to Canyon Ranch Miami Beach Will Have to Wait Until November
Sorry, dahlings: Canyon Ranch Miami Beach -- who promised an October 16th opening and even let us make October reservations starting back in July -- isn't going to open until November 5th.
Sadly, your intense wellness retreat and temporary abandonment of white breads and Diet Coke (and adoption of "biodynamic wine," which is the only kind of booze they serve there oh goodness help us all) will have to wait until then.
Also, is it just us or, like, does Miami not really seem like the type of place one goes to get healthy and, like, retreat? On a recent trip, we recall little more than boozey situations and sunburns. Miami Beach doesn't seem like a remote, quiet location -- at least not compared to the much chiller Lenox, MA and Tuscon, AZ. But hell, we didn't even know what biodynamic wine was, so what do we know?
Right now, reservations can be booked for dates after November 16th, and rates start at $300.

Canyon Ranch Miami Starts Taking Reservations for October 16

Because it's never too early to start planning your therapeutic, wellness trip to South Beach, the soon-to-open Canyon Ranch Miami has begun taking reservations for October 16.
On that night you can reserve an Intracoastal Suite for $300 a night. This one-bedroom suite is 950-sq.ft. and comes with two Queen-sized beds, a kitchenette with a small refrigerator, a flat-screen TV and westward views of Miami and the Intracoastal. Oh and course, bathrobes and slippers too for when you stroll on down to the 70,000-square-foot Wellness Spa. You may not even need clothes on this trip!
Several other room types (all suites) are available with different types of views (ocean, pool or intracoastal.) One word of advice: overnight valet parking is $35. So we say skip the rental car if you can.
Thanks Barry for the heads-up!
