Hotel Londra Palace is No Splurge If You Value Venice Views
We are suckers for a room with a killer view. We find that we are even more likely to forgive some minor hotel inconveniences if we can stare out the window at something pretty--yeah we are that shallow. Let's help out our fellow hotel mavens by uploading rooms with killer views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. We will feature our favorites in this space from time to time. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number of the hot view.
The Hotel Londra Palace in Venice, situated on Riva degli Schiavoni, looks onto St. Mark's Basin and is quick to boast its spectacular views on its website: "no fewer than a hundred windows on the lagoon of Venice that enable guests to enjoy a view that goes from the Salute Basilica to the island of Giudecca and the various islands dotted about in this part of the lagoon: San Giorgio Maggiore, San Servolo, San Lazzaro degli Armeni and Lido."
From the looks of this photo by Quasimime, Londra Palaca delivers. The photographer says that when she stayed at the hotel, she "would climb out the windows and perch myself on the ledge...like an owl." We would probably do the same thing.
During the low season, rates start around $375 USD and can climb all the way to $735 USD for just a plain old standard room so a view like this will cost you. But if sitting owl-style on your hotel room's windowsill enjoying the sight of the pretty water is priceless to you, then go for it...that is, of course, if you're willing to brave Venice with the possibility of another surge of acqua alta.

Cubicle Dreamin': Visiting Venice, La Dolce Vita Style
Cubicle Dreamin' is a feature in which we ask the hotel mavens to take some time out of their busy work day, surf the Internet, and tell us what hotel they wish they could beam themselves to right that very second--all on the slave driving companies dime, of course. Oh, like these people aren't surfing aimlessly anyway--at least now their purposeless clicking will be cobbled together into useful hotel stories--we hope. Have a destination hotel you are just dying to leave your cube for? Send the story our way.
In this episode, Hotel Maven MyTwoCents visits Venice...in her mind. Enjoy.

This morning we woke up feeling like a million dollars, even if we don't have it. In keeping with our morning fantasy, we continued to dream at our cubicle of the sweet life with a romantic getaway to Venice, no holds (or dollars) barred.
And in doing some rich and famous research, we found the perfect stay, the magnificently restored Hotel Danieli.
Lording over the San Marco Basin, this historic five-floor hotel is comprised of the 14th century gothic Dandolo Palace, the baroque 19th century Casa Nuova, and the modern Danielino building. Together the hotel offers 233 rooms with swank décor and modern amenities including satellite TV, minibars, mosaic-tiled baths and the ever-important A/C.

Bellini-Time at the Hotel Londra

The News Down Under recently checked out the Hotel Londra Palace in Venice, calling it a "gem" that has "unequalled views of St. Mark's Basin."
But never willing to take just one person's word for it, we found that their opinions are matched by past guests. The staff in particular at Londra Palace get continuously praised:
The concierges, especially Walter and Alvise, were incredibly helpful with directions, recommendations, and reservations for dinner, even assisting my husband to find a pharmacy when one was unexpectedly needed.
Other guests found the staff to be extremely helpful with their young children and in one person's case, her aging mother. These happy Venetians must be sipping back a lot of Bellinis to keep up this attitude.
We suggest you do the same however, as Bellinis may be the only form of entertainment. Although it's clear that the views are incredible, the furniture authentic, and the staff extraordinary, we found nothing in regard to WiFi, spa, fitness room, or anything of the sort.
