Probably most travelers to Luxembourg--that little European nation sandwiched between Belgium, France and Germany--would prefer to stay in the city center, near the European Union action and museums. But if the inner city hotels are too pricey, or, as often happens, booked out by European Union officials, then a really reasonably-priced alternative is the Campanile Hotel Luxembourg on the outskirts of the city.

Nothing about Luxembourg is big, so the distance into the city center is negligible if you have a car. The Campanile usually offers cheap internet rates and other special deals: for example, at the moment they're running a 2 rooms for €89 ($130) deal, where four people can stay on weekends for a per person rate that sounds more like a youth hostel fee than a reasonable hotel. You can also get €45 ($65) deals for one room on Thursday, Friday or Saturday nights if you book more than 30 days ahead.

Why so cheap? Well, you can guess by the name that it's very near the airport, but we can assure you that the Luxembourg airport is not a busy one. As for the hotel itself, it doesn't get rave reviews from visitors, but not many complaints either. It is however extremely hard to find any decent photos of the place.

But at the end of the day, the Campanile is a solid value-for-money kind of proposition, with Wifi, large buffet breakfast, free parking and a restaurant open for both lunch and dinner if you don't make it into the city.
