Earlier this year the Mövenpick Hotel Hamburg opened up inside a converted water tower in Sternschanzen Park, near the Hamburg fair grounds. Being a 1910 water tower means that the Hamburg Mövenpick doesn't exactly have the standard shape of a hotel, making it an interesting place to stay from the outside at least.

Inside, there are 226 rooms spread over 17 floors, which the hotel describes as "4-star plus" in quality. Rooms near the top of the tower have great views over the city. The restaurant is in an added two-storey glass building to the south of the main tower to provide room for up to 145 guests at one sitting; there's a large banquet room above it.

A metro station is just a two-minute walk away, although some people suggest the Mövenpick is in a slightly seedy part of town, so take care. Since it opened the majority of its customers have been business travelers but it seems like a unique enough hotel to attract the full range of guests. Average room rates start at around $250 a night.
