There’s yet another new hotel in town for Shanghai, but for once we’re more interested in the brand than the specifics of the hotel itself.

The Kerry Hotel Pudong, Shanghai, is the first Kerry hotel – the new five star lifestyle brand from Shangri-La. The aim of which is, apparently, to:

Appeal to the business traveler who prefers a vibrant and relaxed environment without compromising on service or quality. The hotels are contemporary in style and provide a seamless link between business, entertainment and recreation. Extensive leisure facilities are designed to become a social activity hub for both hotel guests and the local community

Although we’re not keen on the name, which doesn’t exactly have the romance of a Shangri-La or the hustle of a Traders, we’re liking the sound of the place. The main restaurant, COOK, is a huge round-the-world affair with 11 open kitchens from Chinese and Japanese to a butcher’s block, patisserie and – stem your desire – a “cheese vault”. Ie, it’s like a super-posh buffet, only you order a la carte. Awesome.
