A Rooftop Restaurant Will Open At Hotel Le Bleu...For The Third Time

Back in October, we had some major doubts over the future of poor old Hotel Le Bleu, Brooklyn's little eight-story black sheep. But it turned out the giant "for rent" sign that had been draped unceremoniously over the building and the roadside signage was only a reference to the hotel's rooftop dining space. And now it seems to have attracted a new tenant.

Brownstoner is reporting that the banners have come down, and that a new establishment, called, of all things, "The Rooftop," will be opening there in early 2012. And maybe that was the whole problem in the first place. Maybe the hotel's first two failures, The Vue and Il Tetto, didn't have enough staying power because no one knew exactly where to find them. With "The Rooftop," that whole problem is solved. But will people actually be visiting?

Is Hotel Le Bleu Going Out Of Le Business?

Judging from two giant "FOR RENT" signs posted outside Brooklyn's Hotel Le Bleu, it would seem that the entire place was going out of business. But when we stopped in to ask the Front Desk what was going on, they told us it is in fact just the rooftop restaurant and lounge that are in the stinker, and not the actual hotel. Hmm, twice in two years? Sounds like the penthouse space at Le Bleu might be what we like to call Le Cursed.

According to a Front Desk staffer, the hotel and rooftop remain under the same ownership, but the two spaces are rented out separately. These signs simply indicate that the hotel is seeking a new tenant for the restaurant and lounge space, as the "classy" Italian restaurant which opened in Spring 2010 closed for good in August.

Would You Pay $999 A Night To Get Away From Irene?

Yesterday, we gave a mention to NYC hotels who put on a brave face for hurricane-afflicted guests. But it's not all free breakfasts, goodie bags, and general hotel humanitarianism. The NY Daily News reported on a scary case of hotel swindling that took place over in Brooklyn (evacuation zone C, in case you were wondering).

Before we name the actual hotel who was caught charging stranded guests a spine-tingling $999 per night, we have to ask: in this day and age, is it really worth taking advantage of helpless hotel guests just to make a few extra hundred bucks? Inevitably, once the panic is over and the storm has passed, bad reviews will pop up, horror stories will make the rounds, and a once-passable mid-range hotel's reputation will be irrevocably besmirched. Yes, we said it.

The Vue, the restaurant at Brooklyn's Hotel Le Bleu, may have only closed a couple of weeks ago but the hotel landlord is promising that a replacement will open soon. And shocker, it might be an Italian restaurant, a "classy Italian" one that is.

Domenic Tonacchio tells The Brooklyn Paper:

“The restaurant will be run by a prominent chef with experience in Bay Ridge and Lower Manhattan."

Proving that Park Slopers aren’t so different from their West Village cousins, a bunch of Brooklyn residents have forced the restaurant and bar atop Hotel Le Bleu to close. Yes, Vue follows the fate of the Jane Ballroom, chased out of town by whiney locals with an aversion to the sounds of hip young drunks.

Brooklyn's Hotel Le Bleu Struts Around In Skater Kicks

Gosh, it feels like forever since we last talked about what's happening at the Hotel Le Bleu. But then it has been some time since they opened in November 2007, becoming to official first boutiquey, contemporary hotel to call Brooklyn home.

And since they're located in Brooklyn, the hotel needs to show a little style. Right in line with the designer hotel uniform trend, the Le Bleu has partnered up with Vans to outfit the staff in two different styles of shoes as well as have a video board on the hotel sign, displaying Brooklyn tourist sites and more—all in the name of neighborhood pride, of course. Here's the lowdown on the new kicks:

The two sneakers our staff are currently wearing are the Rowley Specials and The Chukka Low Top. Other uniform items that are a bit outside the box are un-tucked white dress shirts and zip up cardigan sweaters…more of a beatnik skater uniform look.

Sounds verrrry interesting; and we're beyond happy to hear that the Brooklyn hotels are swaggering alongside the Manhattan ones, with their special collaborations and the like. Rooms at Le Bleu start at $249, but keep in mind that it includes parking, a "welcome amenity" (feat. Smart Water, Torn Ranch Choc Chip Cookies, Pirate’s Booty), local calls, 30 channels of in-room movies, wireless internet, hard-wired internet, and a fresh start basket via room service.

Baseball Hotels :: Brooklyn's Le Bleu for Cyclones Action

Summertime...hot dogs, apple pie, and...baseball! In New York, there are literally hundreds of hotel choices giving you easy access to the subways and trains to get to Yankee and Shea Stadium.

We've rounded up some good hotels near MLB Stadiums but what about the minor league for a serious taste of the working man's ballgame? You can take the Staten Island Ferry for free to see the Staten Island Yankees, but trust us, you don't want to stay overnight on "Stranded Island."

Then there's the Brooklyn Cyclones, the borough's nod to its Dodgers history, and just as popular (the park reports attendance has already surpassed two million attendees).

Brooklyn has limited hotel crashpads, but the hotel closest to the action is Hotel Le Bleu in Park Slope. This small hotel, with 48 rooms, is as near to the diamond as you can get, and an underhand toss to the local subway that gets you out to Keyspan Park.

Hotel Le Bleu Now Open...Finally

We were beginning to think Hotel Le Bleu would turn into Brooklyn's Six Columbus with delay after delay.

But GM Robert Gaeta wrote in to confirm rumors that the hotel opened over the weekend:

Hotel Le Bleu, Brooklyn's first luxury boutique hotel is now open as of 4PM Friday. The Department of Buildings gave us our Certificate of Occupancy. We had our first guests check in today. Guests from Virginia...Next big story: When the top floor restaurant and roof lounge Vue opens.

Hey, that will be a big story. Last we heard, it'll be opening sometime next year.

Hotel Le Bleu Delayed Yet Again

Hey, remember Brooklyn's new boutique Hotel Le Bleu, which was supposed to open on Monday? We went to check it out last month, and things were looking good. But the place has hit a few snags, and as of now, the hotel is taking reservations for Nov. 2 and later. Oh, the irony. Six Columbus (which Hotel Le Bleu absolutely did not want to be compared to) opened on Monday instead.

So what's the hold up? General Manager Robert Gaeta went in for a meeting with the NYC Department of Buildings to finalize a certificate of occupancy. How'd it go?

Building Department has mis-located our paperwork and the meeting had to be re-scheduled. Another week? Very frustrating, but the rooms are ready to sell.

Gotta love that red tape. Once the hotel actually opens, it'll be a few more months before the rooftop restaurant and bar are in place.

First Look Inside Hotel Le Bleu

The last we heard about Brooklyn's Hotel Le Bleu, it was waiting on a certificate of occupancy. We went to check it out to find out if it really does overlook the Gowanus Canal, if it does have a tiny lobby and whether or not it would open any time soon.

On that last bit, it seems that October 1 may actually happen. True, it's only weeks away, but there are just a handful of things holding up the certificate of occupancy: elevator indicators and standpipe checks are scheduled for this week. As GM Robert Gaeta told us, he's done his part, and he's just waiting for the city's approval. "We're not Six Columbus," he said more than once.

Hotel Le Bleu Supposedly 'Just Waiting' on Certificate of Occupancy

Recently, we've been comparing the thrice-delayed Hotel Le Bleu to the eternally unopened Six Columbus but maybe we are being a little harsh.

A tipster informs us that the Hotel Le Bleu is indeed finished inside and out but they are simply waiting on a certificate of occupancy report from the city. This report did check out when we did a quick search on the NYC Buildings web site. Yet since we're not on the ground in Brooklyn we don't have any pictures of what the construction progress looks like, if there's anything left. (Hint, Hint.)

However, we do have a neighborhood description from someone and it goes a little something like this:

The Hotel's location is so odd... smack dab between a Yellow Cab depot and a U-Haul. And I'm talking full parking lots of those nasty vehicles. That is the view from the balcony, or if you're lucky the Gowanus Canal. Plus, the hotel's parking lot can only be entered from somewhere behind the hotel and if you are a guest approaching from there, you don't get to see the front and might mistake it for a Super 8.

Our informer also got to peek inside.

The lobby is hmmm...I'd compare it to the size of my boss' office. There were people setting up computers in there this weekend, however. The dividers on the balconies do not afford privacy between suites nor from the streets.

The newest opening date is now October 1.

Meanwhile, Six Columbus is mired in construction and some permit violations, although they did obtain a temporary certificate of occupancy. Still, our money's on Hotel Le Bleu.

Hotel Le Bleu To Open, So They Say

Hotel Le Bleu might be shirking its similarities to the ever-delayed Six Columbus. On September 10,  the hotel will finally open its doors in trendy Park Slope, Brooklyn. According to its internal site as well as hotels.com, Le Bleu is taking reservations starting on the 10th. After several delayed grand openings, we're not plunking down the $327 for a room only to see our reservations cancelled at the last minute. But for now, it looks like there will be a new, very modern and very blue, place to sleep near the N/R train.

Since many consider Brooklyn the new Manhattan, it's only fitting the up-and-coming borough started opening luxury hotels that rival its noisy neighbor. Yoga studios seem to line the streets of Park Slope, so it's nice to see a hotel take up real estate in an otherwise unsightly stretch of 4th Avenue. Plus, it's handy having a high-end place to rest one's well-stretched body after a long day of bending.
