Williamsburg Gets A Pool, And It's Very, Very Pretty

Back when we started following the developing Hotel Williamsburg, we made an initial comparison to the neighborhood pool in McCarren Park. Well, we can officially say after visiting yesterday that the hotel's 40 foot long secluded oasis blows—so to speak—all competition out of the water.
The condos and the hotel alike both face onto the courtyard, which, in the right sunlight, glistens creamy white—the water glows blue at night. Like the lobby, the area is entirely clutter-free. No experimental art or moody drapes (there's a separate place in the hotel for that), and no loud music (though they have MTV vet John Norris on hand to curate the expanding record collection). Granted, this is still their first month open. If only crowded pools looked as lovely as empty, new ones. Sigh.

Another Williamsburg Hotel Shows Up To The Party

Brownstoner is reporting on the projected May opening of another new boutique hotel in Williamsburg—literally just a block and a half from Hotel Williamsburg. The newcomer will likely be called The Wythe, and rooms will go for around $200 a night. So, not to jump the gun here, but let's just get things straight: it hasn't even finished construction yet and already it's got better rates and a more original name?
They're making it too easy to pick sides!
But we're not gonna hold our breath. After waiting an entire summer (and then some) for their sleek, pool-equipped neighbor to get the motor running, we're not so quick to get our hearts broken again. At least not until getting a good, long look at the finished place.

And Out Of Nowhere, The Hotel Williamsburg Has An Opening Date

It had been a while since we'd heard from our fine friends across the East River. Was it technical difficulties with the taco truck that pushed back the Hotel Williamsburg's opening so far?
The river-facing hot spot has been making waves around the blogosphere for quite some time now, but mostly it's been the same stale factoids tossed around (rooftop bar, central location, uniforms by Brooklyn Industries). Now that an opening date has officially been set (October 17), what other details can we expect from Brooklyn's "full-service urban resort?"

Hotel Williamsburg Makes Us Wait Just A Little Longer

Heading to Brooklyn for Labor Day weekend? Here's one place you definitely should not count on staying at. The long-awaited Hotel Williamsburg, once scheduled for a June opening, was pushed back to August, and then September. Now, the official date is sometime in October. Do we believe them?
Though we've known details about the building for quite some time (pool cabanas, custom-made uniforms, tacos), construction progress seems to have held up the show. Which is a shame, because—we've said it before—but Williamsburg is an open playing field for boutique hotels. When it comes to competition, there basically is none.

Hotel Williamsburg Is Set For An Early August Opening, Plus A Taco Truck

Last we checked, the Hotel Williamsburg still had some work ahead of it. But we gave them the benefit of the doubt, and even placed The Watering Tower on our rooftops list. Now we wonder if it would really have been better off on next summer's list instead.
The hotel currently gives an approximate opening date of early August, though a recent stroll past the building revealed a rather bare-looking lobby. But! Lest we wallow too long in our pessimism, there are two recently-added features to the space that might help define this slowly emerging hotel.

First Look At the Hotel Williamsburg's New Uniforms

Here's your first look at the new uniforms for staffers at the Hotel Williamsburg, designed by Brooklyn Industries. When we speculated on the mystery duds last month, we admit, we were teasing just a little. But in true Brooklyn Industries fashion (the company logo is a water tower), the so-called "uniforms" hardly resemble anything work-related at all. And we mean that in a good way.
A rep for the hotel confirmed that each department (cocktail waiters and waitresses, poolside bartenders, housekeeping, etc) will be given their own "look"—unlike certain other hotels who prefer to focus on the attire (or lack thereof) of their cocktail waitresses alone. So far, two photos have been released, one (above) showing the range for both men and women, and another (below) of a dress worn by female room attendants.

Guess The Hotel Construction Workers Revealed!

In last week's Guess the Hotel, we posted a photo of construction workers moving materials out of an unnamed hotel, along with some hints about said hotel and left it up to you guys to deduce which not-yet-opened place we were talking about.
Well, congratulations Kyle Thomas Britten, who exactly 35 minutes later, nailed the mystery hotel to a tee.
Yes, the Hotel Williamsburg, which we reported on two weeks ago, is still chugging along, and it looks like workers still have a ways to go. While we weren't able to confirm whether any of the rooms are actually ready, none of the ground-floor spaces have any kind of finished look to them. While we wait for the hotel to finish up, we did get a look at a rendering of one of the rooms (see below.)

Pool Rivalry At The New Hotel Williamsburg

Brooklyn's most over-saturated hipster 'hood is about to get its fix of the boutique hotel scene next month, when the Hotel Williamsburg makes its grand opening. Luckily for them, the competition is virtually nil.
The question we have is, can this large-scale project live up to its hype? The 64-room hotel is certainly promising a lot: a Crosley record player in every room, Brooklyn Industries-designed staff uniforms, and three main public spaces—specifically, a lobby bar, rooftop bar, and ground-level "poolside club"—with drink menus by Alchemy Consulting (Andaz 5th Avenue, Andaz Wall Street, The Randolph At Broome).
After venting our initial skepticism, we called the hotel's PR rep to find out just what those custom-designed uniforms might look like. Are we talking hoodies? Sheer tunics? Guys in short shots? A combination of all three? No details could be confirmed, so for now we'll just leave it to your imagination.

The Hotel Le Jolie Is A Very Confused Hotel

It's admittedly kinda trendy to beat up on Brooklyn hotels. (At least the ones not charging by the hour, that is.) But when they make it so easy, it's hard to let 'em slide.
The other week we thought the Hotel Le Jolie might be kind of a cool place to stay.
But now we're not so sure after seeing this giant banner ad for Grand Theft Auto IV on the side of the hotel. Needless to say, it's taking the class level down a few notches. And Curbed can't decide which is better: the video game ad or the abandoned gas station next to the property.
We'll say neither after looking over Le Jolie's newly functional website. Among the "snapshots" of great things to see in NYC is a photo of the Brooklyn Bridge at night. There's no doubt that's a wonderful landmark, but couldn't the hotel find a photo of the bridge without the World Trade Center in the background????
