Centara Grand in Bangkok Will Bake You Christmas Cake
November 12, 2008 at 9:00 AM | 0 Comments

Weird but true: Bangkok hotels seems to have a monopoly on Christmas ideas that we actually like the sound of. The latest is at the Centara Grand at Central World.
Centara’s interest in Christmas probably comes from its German president Gerd Steeb, and that’s led to a furious baking of Christmas cakes and puddings for Centara Grand guests in the lead-up to December 25.
Apparently they had to put 22 pounds of raisins, 15 pounds of dried apricots, 15 pounds of pitted dried prunes and 14 bottles of rum on the shopping list to create enough Christmas treats for us. We’re wishing that they’ll send us a Christmas cake to try even though we can’t make it to Bangkok this festive season.

Best Hotel Infinity Pools: Siam Squared
November 12, 2007 at 11:31 AM | 0 Comments
Siam@Siam is a new boutique hotel in Bangkok, where hoteliers are still proud to utter the words "boutique hotel". Rooms are set in industrial style concrete against brightly colored furniture. However, the coup de grâce is the gorgeous infinity pool that affords guests views of Bangkok while they soak.
Caveat Siam: The hotel is noisy and in a busy location -- what Bangkok hotel is not? So ask for a room away from the road and you should be in a better position if you are a light sleeper.
The hotel is a five minute walk from MBK, the Discovery Center, and Paragon. The entire hotel is WiFi rigged, even the restaurants.
Tip: Even though this hotel soft opened back in December of 2006, many local taxi drivers are still confused as to the hotels whereabouts. Do yourself a favor and learn how to say the hotel address in Thai. It is on King Rama Road.

Conrad Bangkok Expands Limo Fleet
October 19, 2007 at 12:45 PM | 0 Comments

Early this year, the Conrad Bangkok was looking to lure lonely travelers with Mercedes limos and chauffeur service. Now the luxury of riding in a bespoke Benz is open to all with a new fleet of tricked out S-Class limos for hire at 1,500 Baht ($47) an hour.
From the back seat of these babies, you'll get to avoid the notorious Bangkok traffic. Seat-back TVs also pipe in movies and Bloomberg news, and you can plug your iPod into the 12 speaker sound system.
If this type of style is a bit too much--or a bit too pricey--the Conrad also has two "Easy Rider" scooters. We're not sure what they have to do with Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper, but they can easily snake through gridlocked traffic. Even better: Rides on the back of the Benz scooters start at just $1.

It Pays To Be Single In Bangkok
January 5, 2007 at 2:07 PM | 1 Comment

Why? Because at the Conrad Hotel there, the hotel is offering three Mercedes Benz SLKs as limos for single guests with little luggage.
The first singleton to try out this service was a lonely New Yorker who tested it back in November:
The launch of the new Mercedes SLK200 sports roadster limousine was used to pick up the first guest using the sports car, Mr. Matthew LoCicero, from the new Suvarnabhumi Airport and directly into the hotel's Lobby! Mr. Gregory Meadows, General Manager, and Mr. Wolfgang Huppenbauer, President & CEO of DaimlerChrysler (Thailand) were waiting to welcome him. Mr. LoCicero who flew from New York commented, "I like doing what no one else is doing....I am thrilled to be the first person to participate in this programme. Life is short, let's travel first class."
The service is part of the hotel's Ultimate Rush Package where single travelers with only carry-on luggage get priority immigration clearance, a speedy ride to the hotel and are ushered into their suite or room with utmost efficiency. And the prices are insanely reasonable at $250 for a regular room and $479 for a suite. Must stay for two days but get this, you get your very own "limited edition Mercedes Conrad Baseball cap." Shake and Bake!

As If Four Seasons Bangkok Weren't Gourmet Enough
August 9, 2006 at 4:05 PM | 0 Comments
Some damn fine food is coming to the Four Seasons in Bangkok this September. The World Gourmet Festival has announced it as their digs for their 7th annual foodfest the week of the 10-17. It's not as if the Four Seasons doesn't already boast great food, but this festival will put them over the top this week.
The world's top chefs will be cooking up a storm and the Four Seasons apparently will host more of the masters than ever before:
Since its inception seven years ago, the World Gourmet Festival has grown in prominence to feature an extraordinary line up of some of the world's best chefs. Several food festivals are hosted throughout the world, however, Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok is the only hotel to bring award winning Master Chefs under one roof for a week long celebration of outstanding food, superb wines and to share tips and information on how to create award-winning cuisine.
If this excites all you foodies out there, book your rooms fast as they are selling out quickly. For those trying to emulate Angelina Jolie, the event will also benefit the "Save a Child from AIDS" foundation.
