Well, we've gotta hand it to Mike Barish over at Gadling for risking his health, life and happiness for the hotel bloggin' cause. This week, he went where HotelChatter would never, ever have the guts to go: inside the Hotel Carter, a.k.a. the Dirtiest Hotel in America several years running.

After writing a post about TripAdvisor's newest list of the dirtiest hotels in the country, Gadling commenters urged him to investigate the scene of so many crimes against hospitality. Finally, donning a home-made haz-mat suit and armed with a UV light, he checked in (with a thick wall of plexiglass between his face and the front desker's), was schooled on the hotel's strict no-guest policy, and headed upstairs and through the Shining-esque hallways to room 812. It was in those hallways that "it began to dawn on [him] that the Hotel Carter may be the place where dreams go to die."

Hotel Carter's a "Discussing" Hotel

We're not expecting hotel heaven when we hear about Hotel Carter. Sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same. So it comes as absolutely no surprise to us that International visitors are having issues with Hotel Carter. Excuse the English, but it's a very authentic complaint from blogger hua0830:

That's really a wonderful experience in NY. All the memories are in my mind. I should record them on time, but it's extremely tired in that time especially in Carter Hotel. Haha because it's really.... very.... very awful.  I have never lived in a terrible hotel like it. The bed is dirty, the toilet is smelly, the floor is discussing, the door and chair is broken, and the service is the worst....Is hotels in USA all like that? I can't believe it.

We can believe it, and it just goes to show that you might at least want to do a cursory hotel web search before you book--lord knows we have plenty of stories on this particular hotel. Or you might end up in one of those hotels that's really, really discussing.
