Since the Amazing Race ended, our reality TV intake has been rather low.  However, we have tuned into the Apprentice a couple of times, one of which was last night, when the New York St. Regis was featured on Trump's show.

The St. Regis was the site of the Avon Fashion Show, which may or may not have been put on just of the squabbling Apprenti. The St. Regis really just made a cameo last night, as the made-for-TV fashion show was held in one of the properties ballrooms.

Unfortunately for the St. Regis, the hotel was not a recipient of the now almost legendary, Trump hyperbole. Why weren't we treated to a "The fashion show will be held at the St. Regis, the most beautiful and fantastic hotel in the world"? Maybe because Mr. Trump faces has quite a few hotels in his portfolio, and he was saving much of his hyperbolic rhetoric for the Trump Model Management girls, who were also featured in the show.

Four Seasons New York saves Lassman from the rain

Anthony Lassman, of Nota Bene subscription guidebooks, sat down and had a laptop chat with Travel & Leisure this month.  He tells the mag a story about his love for the Four Seasons in New York:

At the Four Seasons in New York, the concierge desk is so good, I'd stay there even if that were the only thing they did well.  Once when I was a guest there, it started pouring rain while I was out.  The concierge remembered I didn't have a car and called my cell phone to say, `Where are you? It's just started raining heavily.  We're sending a car around.'

The Four Seasons NY is like a museum inside, but hey, getting brought in from the rain by your hotel, that is cool.

Sounds like the Four Seasons made a friend, of course we wonder, did they know who he was?

Is this the original W?  Is this the W, the one that started it all?   We have no confirmation on any of those questions, but the W New York sure feels like it could have been the  prototype.

The W New York at 49th and Lex comes equipped with most of ths standard W feature set:

  • Dim Lighting
  • Funky Music
  • Waterfall
  • Friendly Staff
  • Cool Interior Design

However, there is something about this W that is a shade different from the other W properties in NYC.  It seems a bit older.  The building is older, the rooms, a bit older and smaller than W standard, and the overall feel is that this property is that it is the elder statesman of the popular W franchise. Like Slick Rick is to Hip Hop, the W New York is to the W franchise.

HotelChatter was live at theWWired event last night at 49th & Lex.  Lots of fun.  A DJ spinning off of iPods, tons of Apple gear and giveaways. W added to the scene with projection screens flashing calming imagery, and lots of friendly staff making sure everyone was happy, well fed, and properly watered.

Very laid back, after work environment all courtesy of Apple and W.

Get to one of these if this sounds up your alley.

Here is the remaining summer schedule of WWired events.

More News on the Trumpster

CNN Money reports that Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts Inc. maybe on shaky financial ground.

While the the Borgata in Atlantic City was cited as having a "negative impact on business," that wasn't all.

"Trump Hotels also said its $1.8 billion in debt and accompanying interest payments were prohibiting it from reinvesting in its properties, and it has been looking at ways to restructure."

It's too soon to tell if this will affect book sales for "Trump: How to Get Rich".  The real question is who will address this issue faster, his next "Apprentice" candidates or the Trump Hotel's auditors, Ernst & Young.
