Here's A Snazzy Room For Under $120 In NYC

Having already been open for about two months now, Hotel Lola is an unusually low-profile hotel for having such a big personality. Rather than paying homage to anyone specific, the name Lola embodies the spirit of "women ahead of their time." Just to back up a second: the building originally went up in 1903 as a women's-only residence, so its heritage now plays into its super-chic design and playful concept.
But the best part about Lola? She comes cheap.
While we were trolling the pages of Quikbook yesterday, we stumbled upon this deal going on right now at Lola. $114 is all you'll pay for a Cozy Single (what they call a Standard), though if you feel like upgrading yourself, a Superior Queen (shown above) will only set you back $144. Nothing we don't like about Lola so far!

A New Autograph Collection Hotel Launches Today in NYC

That's right, The Algonquin is no longer New York's only Autograph Collection hotel. As of tonight at midnight, rooms at The Carlton, on Madison Avenue and E 29th St, will be bookable via the Autograph website, under the category of Boutique Chic.
The Rockwell Group, who has worked on other hotels like The Cosmopolitan, The Ames and Trump Soho, revealed that The Carlton is in fact housed in a former carpet showroom. And when renovations began, they discovered not only a Tiffany style glass dome on the mezzanine level, but also exquisite mosaic flooring, which had been—as luck would have it—preserved perfectly by the carpets themselves. Oh, the serendipity of interior design!

Pro Skater Smokes Weed, Runs Naked Through The Affinia Shelburne

We wish we could have been there to help professional skater Jerome Rogers pick a more discreet hotel for his recent all-night drug binge in NYC. But then again, if smoking weed and getting high on PCP are the only things on your mind, we suppose any old room with four walls and a bed will do. Which (kind of) explains how Rogers ended up naked in the 11th-floor hallway of Affinia Shelburne at 9am yesterday morning.
When neighboring guests heard yells coming from outside their rooms, they peeked out to discover Rogers, high as a kite, ripping art from the walls and proclaiming he was the son of God. Fair enough. But maybe instead, he could have basked in his divinity from the comforts of his own room? Cozied up to a nice buckwheat pillow ordered off the Affinia comfort cart?
See what we mean? He really should have called us first...

Does This Room Look Like A 'W?'

Because technically...it shouldn't
Back in 2010, it was announced that W Hotels had dropped two of its Manhattan hotels, the W Court and the W Tuscany, a decision one commenter called a "good move."
Though no changes took place immediately after London-based St. Giles Hotel Group took over the properties, it seems the company is finally ready to mold The Tuscany to its liking. Starting in February next year, the hotel will close down for a complete renovation of the rooms, suites and lobby—though hopefully nothing will happen to the awesome Lexington Avenue-facing patios. Not much needs changing there!

What Is This At The Affinia?

We like to keep it fun but informative here at HotelChatter so our newest series, What is This? is devoted to odd-looking items in hotel rooms that upon first glance look as if they serve only a decorative purpose. But everything happens for a reason, right? And we're here to tell you what these things really do.
Though it looks somewhat like an emergency brake, there's nothing protective about this mystery gadget. As with most other What Is This items, this isn't something you need to have as much as something you might enjoy having. The "driving" metaphor isn't entirely inappropriate—you would only use this thing when you were sitting down, and it would be very helpful when trying to steer things the right way. Uh oh, we've said too much. Got any idea what it could be?

Pillow Talking With Affinia's New Chief Comfort Officer

Affinia Hotels is still on track to be the hotel leader of all things cute (here's a refresher: cupcakes, toys, and flower-painted walls). Yesterday, the group launched its newest customer service initiative, the Tender Loving Comfort Movement (that's TLC to you), which uses behavioral science to anticipate exactly how guests want to be treated, and what treats to treat them with.
The brand's new Chief Comfort Officer (that's CCO to you!), Christina Denihan, was on hand last night to show off the new "comfort cart," which is available starting today in all the Affinia hotels during a trial period, in which guests can try any of its amenities for free. We chatted with Denihan about her history with the hotel, the idea behind the TLC movement, and what her favorite pillow is.
How long have you worked for the hotel?
I've been working for the company for five years. I've done every position at the hotel—housekeeping, concierge, front desk—so I know the people really well. In order to ignite the TLC movement, it's important that I know all the associates, because they're the people that are going to make this work. They're the ones who know our customers most, they're here every day.

Twitpic of the Week: Houndstooth Hotel Madness
In the ever-expanding universe of Twitter, there is one particular trend @HotelChatter happens to quite enjoy: candid hotel room photos. These Twitpics range from stunning views to anti-views to celebrity tomfoolery and everything in between. And we can't get enough of 'em! Starting this week, we will begin featuring one "Twitpic of the Week" to commemorate our favorite hotel-themed snapshot. Got a favorite of your own? Want to show off your sweet suite? Send it in!

Life can be tough when you're the world's most famous reality TV star. So when @KimKardashian just needed a nice, prolonged armchair lounging sesh, who was gonna stop her? And if her handsome houndstooth dress happened to perfectly match the fabric on the chair, who was gonna complain about that either?

Beyonce (And Her Bump) Do The Gansevoort Park

To start your week off right, here's a shot of one very pregnant pop star making her way out of a downtown NYC hotel that happens to be very popular with the celebrities. Beyonce, in town to promote her new fragrance, Beyonce Pulse, wore her golden hair back in a bun, along with some chunky gold hoop earrings and bright red lipstick. Not exactly another hotel fashion shoot, but she was certainly as ready for the cameras as they were for her.
They must be something doing something right at the Gansevoort Park to attract such a steady flow of high-profile guests. Just last month, it was Kim Kardashian who made headlines when she and hubby Kris Humphries moved into the hotel's $7000-a-night penthouse.
And one month earlier, we recognized that black-and-white checkered lobby in photos of Rihanna en route to her show in New Jersey. What next, a Lady Gaga jacuzzi meltdown?

Where to Eat Cheap When Staying at The Gansevoort Park

This week's special series is for the people who feel guilty about splurging on their hotel room in NYC and are looking for ways to trim other travel costs, like eating out. Thanks to Brian Silverman, the adventurous eater at Fried Neck Bones, and author of the Frommer's New York City Travel Guide, we've got affordable alternatives to the fancy hotel restaurants downstairs. And you won't have to walk more than a few blocks. Naturally, we're calling it Cheap Eats Near Your Swank Suite. Of course, this series also works for people who like to mix fancy hotel suites with cheap eats...just because. Bon appétit!
Let’s face it; a rooftop indoor/outdoor pool at your hotel is pretty special. When it’s surrounded by beautiful people who have wandered over from the rooftop bar, it could even get intense. A cocktail at the bar might loosen me up enough to actually put on a bathing suit and plunge into the pool. And I’m sure I’m not alone.
This experience can be attained—for a price—at the Gansevoort Park Hotel. But the pool is only one of the hotel’s attractions. There’s an Exhale Spa, the Cutler Salon, and an elegant Italian restaurant called Asselina.
As I revel on the rooftop, all the collective joy of the Gansevoort Park has me feeling a wee bit guilty. I’m not used to being above the fray, both literally and figuratively. I consider myself part of the fray.

Millesime At The Carlton Launches A New Music Series Tonight

Yesterday, we showed you a Brussels hotel room channeling New York through some questionable turquoise carpeting. Today, here's a hotel actually located in New York that's paying homage to its Tin Pan Alley roots through a new weekly live music program. Can you guess which one we have higher hopes for?
The series, which runs Wednesday through Sunday every week, blends DJs with live jazz, is supposed to be a "modern interpretation of music from nearby Tin Pan Alley, infused with jazz and French Cabaret." And the whole thing starts today!

Gansevoort Only Wears Clothes From The Next Generation

What happens when a flashy brand like Lacoste sets up shop inside a flashy hotel lobby like Gansevoort Park Avenue? Well, the staff uniforms get a whole lot, er, flashier.
Even though the hotel's already been open for a year, the infamous alligator brand is just now getting ready to deck out the entire hotel staff, according to the NY Times. Not limiting itself just to Park Avenue, however, the company will service both Gansevoort hotels, plus the Soho House, and Nobu out in the Hamptons.

In New York, Room Service Extends Beyond The Hotel

The good folks at Time Out New York tipped us off to a new service being offered by Birch Coffee, the super eco-friendly coffeeshop located inside the Gershwin Hotel.
As of last month, you can sign up to get 64-ounce jugs of cold-brewed iced coffee delivered—by tricycle—straight to your front door. Or office building. Or wherever your daily caffeine fix is needed most.
