Not Molly, but her photography and drawings

Okay a little bit more Standard Hotel New York news if you stand it. Along with Salman Rushdie adding a few books to the guestrooms at The Standard during the PEN World Voices Festival from April 25-May 1, the outdoors of the hotel will be getting a little artistic treatment themselves. Illustrator, photographer and writer Molly Crabapple will become a five-day living installation in the Plaza, as she creates large-scale original works in full public view.

No, she's not going to be sleeping outdoors, but she will be out long enough to be adored by her cult-like fan base. We'd have thought her too "alt" for The Standard's taste, since her style is heavily influenced by pin-up girls, art nouveau, steampunk and fantasy, but guess not.

Samantha at left, Paz at right. Trust us, it is not easy to find a flattering photo of Paz.

Just when New York's Standard Hotel attempts to class things up by bringing in Salman Rushdie to hand-select the hotel library, two catty actresses have to steal the headlines. Apparently The City's semi-reality show star Samantha Swetra made some remarks that offended Boardwalk Empire actress Paz de la Huerta, and the b*tchslapping began. Actually, it was full-on punching, reports Fox:

The fight apparently began after Swetra made a few snide remarks aimed at de la Huerta -- prompting the actress to throw a glass and punch the reality star in the face

When it comes to hotel trends, the Standard New York always has to do things a little differently.

While many hotels offer guests a carefully curated selection of books to read during their stay, the Standard has employed Satanic Verses author Salman Rushdie to choose the Standard reading material. The NY Post reports:

According to sources, the "Satanic Verses" author is in the process of selecting 10 "American classics," which will be in Standard rooms during the PEN World Voices Festival April 25 to May 1.

Boo. All that work and they will only be in the rooms for a week? This is actually one of the few cool amenities that the Standard has offered gratis to guests, no special membership required. Maybe they can bring in another author next month? Just not Snooki, please.

Could it be that Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola has finally gotten over Jersey Shore boyfriend Ronnie? The constantly yelling reality star was seen stepping out of the Hotel Gansevoort with another reality star, Kim Kardashian buddy Jonathan Cheban of The Spin Crowd.

There probably wasn't any hanky-panky going on there. After all, he's not her type—a big gorilla juicehead. We're guessing she's looking to employ the publicist to give her image a much-needed makeover, since she's known as one half of one of the most toxic couples on reality TV.

It's what you've been waiting all year for--The 2010 HotelChatter Awards! We'll be bringing you the best and worst of the year all day today and part of tomorrow. Agree or disagree with our picks? Air your thoughts in comments below.

This year's worst Hotel Hell came courtesy of our own JuliaB who spent a night at Jane Hotel in NYC, the budgety place in all the city that's just notches above a hostel.

It's a place HotelChatter has stayed before without much incident but when JuliaB spent the night, things were um...exciting...to say the least. Particularly behind the bed. Here's her own description of what was found:

There was a 2-3in gap between the bed (which was fixed) and the wall. Our phone promptly fell down said gap and as the bed was four feet high, we couldn’t retrieve it. We enlisted a member of staff who tried to get it with a clothes-hanger, failed, and finally managed to get hold of it by sprawling all over our clean sheets and shoving a broom handle down the side.

The Standard NYC is known for its nekkid guests (and even employees) flaunting their business in front of the wall of windows. So imagine our surprise to hear that people are heading to the hotel all bundled up.

They are actually coming out to hit the brand-spankin'-new ice rink, which sits at Washington and 13th streets.

A Room In Soho For $200 a Night? Yep, Now The Courtyard By Marriott Is Open

It was meant to open in the fall, but hey, at least it made it before Christmas. While Harlem continues to wait for its Aloft, Soho gets itself a new hotel this week, with the Courtyard By Marriott Soho opening yesterday.

While the hotel lacks the design chops of its luxey-luxe neighbors, it should give people wanting to stay in Soho a much more affordable option. Not tonight, however, when the room rates at the new Courtyard start at $349 a night.

Weekend rates are more like $299 a night this month and if you want to spend Christmas downtown, the rates are just $199 a night. We also checked on weekdays in January, to get a better idea of what the regular rates will be here, and found an advance purchase rate of $220 a night. In this 'hood, that's a bargain.

Tragedy has struck the Soho House in New York today as a woman was found dead in one of the private club's hotel rooms. NY Daily News reports:

According to police, the 33-year-old woman's body was found about 3 a.m. after the bath water, which was still running, flooded the tub and leaked down into the room below.

When cops arrived at the Ninth Ave. hotel, the unidentified woman was unconscious. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. Detectives are investigating whether she was the victim of foul play, but a police source said her body showed no obvious signs of trauma.

You Haven't Really Made It Until You've Been Turned Into a Cartoon

When it comes to cartoons, TV audiences are now pretty familiar with seeing celebrity guests pop up in episodes of The Simpsons and the like, contributing their own voices and thus attaining legend status. What we're less likely to see are buildings—hotels, to be more specific—popping up with little cartoon guest cameos of their own. However, on last night's Family Guy, The Standard NYC did just that.

The episode focused on Brian, the family dog, who pens a best-selling self-help book and embarks on a book tour. While stopping in New York to do a signing at the Barnes & Noble and take meetings at Pastis, Brian and Stewie stay at The Standard. The name of the hotel is never mentioned, but as you can see from the shot above, and from watching the scene (start around 7:45 here on Hulu), it's so obviously the Meatpacking District hotel.

Halloween is over but these pictures from The Standard New York's invite-only Heaven and Hell Halloween Party at the Boom Boom Room have us completely frightened.

Aside from the appearance of [REDACTED because she might make another death threat on Twitter about us] who looks as if she went as herself, we see that hottie hotelier Andre Balazs went as a priest. Creepy!

The party was only for the A-list NYC crowd and that included actors, fashion designers, models, modelizers and more. And yes, costumes were mandatory. You can peruse the full gallery of entertaining party pics here.

Someone is Suing The Standard NYC for Being Too Sexy

Someone thinks this is too sexy. We know.

Hottie hotelier Andre Balazs might find it hard to believe but there is actually someone out there who does not want to stay at his hotel.

Remember that bizarre case over last year where a housekeeper at The Standard NYC accused a guest of forcing himself on her? Well, the guest was acquitted of all charges (he claims the housekeeper told the lie to defend herself after he caught her rifling through his things) but the guest is now blaming the hotel's sexy attitude for the whole thing. The NY Post reports:

Provocateur at The Gansevoort Survives 'Erase' Threats from Sean Parker

We admit we have a slight obsession with Sean Parker, the brilliant bad boy billionaire who helped Mark Zuckerberg catapult Facebook to the masses. So this item in today's Page Six has us cackling a bit.

Parker was played by Justin Timberlake in the movie, "The Social Network" and JT spent last week socializing at the Gansevoort Park's Plunge rooftop pool and lounge with no problems.

But when the real Sean Parker went over to the original Gansevoort Hotel, things didn't go as smoothly. Two of the girls that Parker rolled up with were not allowed into the Provocateur club, prompting Parker to yell at the doorwoman that she was being size-ist, saying:

"This is profiling! I know you guys have a height requirement for women, and the reason these girls can't come in is because these girls are too short."

Parker, the doorwoman and the club owner went back and forth several times over with the club reiterating their strict reservation policy. The fracas culminated with Parker allegedly threatening to "erase" the doorwoman from Facebook. But it may have all just been a bluff because Page Six reports her Facebook profile is still active. Yeah, but maybe Sean Parker is now reading all her FB messages now?
