Travelzoo leads us to a $99 a night deal at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge, MA. The deal is available weekends through April 3.

Good deal, seeing that rooms are usually around $200 a night.

So what do you do in Boston in the dead of winter?

A brief list of suggestions:

·   Wiggle is back with the Celts, check 'em out at the Fleet and see if the City of Champs can pull off a the triple crown of championships.

·   Go bar hoping and celebrate St. Patty's month...yeah it is celebrated all month in Boston.

·   The Sonesta has a nice heated pool with views of the Charles, so just soak in the pool, order in, and laugh at the poor, cold, shivering folks outdoors.

Black out dates are March 18 & 19 (St. Patty's weekend...grr), however for $10 more a night you can beat the black out.

Looking for a good family hotel on the Cambridge side? Might want to check out the Royal Sonesta.  We ran into a mother/son who were in the midst of a weekender at the Royal Sonesta, and it was obvious this hotel pleased both generations. The son loved the fact that video games were "built into" his in room television set. The original Mario Brothers was his game of choice, and I quickly schooled him on where to find the beanstalk and the warp zones...rookie. The youngster was also extremely excited about the hotel's indoor pool, and the incredibly Charles River views from his hotel room. Meanwhile, the mother was excited that her son was happy and occupied, allowing her and her husband to enjoy the weekend. Furthermore, mom liked the Sonesta's service, and felt the hotel was "accustom to child guests".  To add to the family appeal of the Royal Sonesta, the Cambridgeside Galleria is right across the street.  In the mall you will find a good food court, a California Pizza Kitchen, and a kid friendly Cheesecake factory.

Finally, the property abuts both the Charles River and the Museum Of Science...and was a popular site of the now legendary Red Sox championship parade.

During the pleasant seasons, you can get yourself onto a Duck Boat, or one of the many other boating tours that will take you up and down the river.

The Royal Sonesta looks a bit worn inside, the carpets are old, and the decor a bit dated, however the lobby is wide open, and this place screams family hotel, so if that is what you are looking for, put this place on your list.
