No Tricks, Only Treats at the Boston Common Ritz

We’ll admit we never really got the idea behind the whole “trick or treat” concept. We mean, really, do many kids do tricks, beyond mean-spirited pranks? We’ll save that argument for another day, but the Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common, for one, seems right up our alley, with a "NO TRICKS…ONLY TREATS" dessert and cocktail menu offered Thursdays and Fridays in October (plus, duh, Halloween) in the hotel lobby’s Gallery.
Of course, Halloween screams for punny names, from the menu's “Witches Brew and Apples Too” dessert (apple galette, caramel, cider, crème fraîche) to the Jack-O-Tini (vodka, Pumpkin Smash, lemon and orange juices). Not to mention, we’re suckers for sweet fondue, so Goblin’s Goo and Chocolate Fondue sounds mighty tasty (even though we usually avoid things with “goo” in the name). And who wouldn’t be at least a little bit voyeuristically intrigued by a drink called the Corpse Reviver (Bombay Sapphire, Cointreau, Lillet Blanc, lemon juice, and Kubler absinthe)?
Naturally, there will be a fortune teller hanging ’round the revelry as well. Due to limited space, the hotel recommends reservations. Call 617-574-7176.

Ritz-Carlton Boston Embraces 'Comedy of Errors'

There’s something goofy about a hotel package that’s called the “Comedy of Errors.” Yeah yeah, we know, it’s a classic Shakespeare play, but we can’t help but wonder if it’s one of those lower-your-guests’-expectations sorts of ploys. Well, no, probably not, but we’re allowed to poke fun.
In all seriousness, Beantown-bound thespians that feel like splurging might like this VIP package at the Ritz-Carlton Boston Common. Coinciding with Boston’s annual free Bard performances on Boston Common, the Commonwealth Shakespeare Comedy of Errors Package offers luxury accommodations, VIP seats, and a picnic dinner to a lucky pair.
Specifically, the package includes overnight stay in a deluxe city view guest room at the Ritz, which is a five-minute walk to Boston Common; two VIP seats to the theatre performance, which offers up-close views and VIP restrooms; and a choice of either a picnic dinner for two on the Common or a three-course dinner for two in the hotel’s Jer-Ne Restaurant. In the event that severe rain cancels the performance, guests get a $50 food and drink credit for use at the hotel during their stay.
The 14th annual Shakespeare on the Common production, The Comedy of Errors, will be performed July 31st through Aug. 16. The package is offered those same days, with rates starting at $535 for double occupancy, plus an extra $85 per extra child or adult.
