Swim in Private With Your Lover at The Greenwich Hotel
Valentine's Day for hotels usually means breaking out the cases of champagne and loading up on chocolate-covered strawberries to place throughout their guestrooms. But we're not into that. We've already told you our favorite hotels for Valentine's Day but this week, we'd like to spotlight some of the most opulent V-Day packages out there. If you're going to impress your schmoopie, why not go all out?
The Greenwich Hotel in TriBeca, owned by Robert DeNiro, has put together a star treatment sans the pesky paparazzi. Upon arrival, a bottle of bubbly and aphrodisiacs will be handed to you. Then to get you in the mood, you'll nibble on Champagne truffles, raspberries with fresh whipped cream, and oysters.
Other rated-PG amenities in the package include a Japanese bath soak followed by massage for two in the hotel's Shibui Spa. You lovebirds will also dine at Italian restaurant Locanda Verde and be served breakfast in bed each morning.
But the rated-R-or-higher perks come out at night.

HotelChatter Tipster: Loft Hotel Tribeca Sleeps With The Fishes

We just got an email tip about the ever changing status of Loft Hotel Tribeca.
If you are following along, Loft is/was Sam Chang's Tribeca hotel project that was suppose to open back in April of 2006, promising would be guests "to have a unique refuge of timeless comfort, service with unrivaled care, and courtesy that is not found elsewhere." Here we are in December, still waiting for timeless comfort in Tribeca.
The latest:
Sam Chang has sold the building to Robert Winston of Winston Hotels who is leasing it to Hilton Garden Inn to operate.
There have been many delays with the construction schedule, the hotel is now due to open Spring 07.
Meanwhile about 90% of the ground floor, equal to about 4,000SF, has been rented to a company called 6 York Street.
6 York Street is made up of restaurateurs Shaol Natan (Restaurant Thalia) and Jeremy Cassilli (Lobby & Accapella)
They plan to open a restaurant and cafe called CleaverHouse designed by a company called a.k.a. (Angel Kunnos Associates)The chef will be Mathieu Palombino of BLT Fish and David Bouley.
a.k.a. is also currently working on a new hotel project in Chelsea, Manhattan, apparently all information is confidential.
So there you have it. New link, renderings (above), and web site seems to verify this news.
