Update: Yes, this Page Six story is from last year, but we were hungry for something new on the long-delayed W Downtown. We hope to bring you piping hot, fresh, new details on this baby very soon. Got any scoop? Let us know!

As with any hotel delay, we were disappointed when we learned that the W New York Downtown opening was pushed back until May 4. But thanks to a Page Six magazine interview with real-estate scion Matthew Moinian, we think we have an explanation. “Think of it as a W on steroids,” Moinian told the mag of his pet project. Huh? The W Downtown is busy bulking up and pumping iron?

Hmm. Remember how way back last summer, W Hotels announced that their flagship London location would be opening June 1 2010?

Well, we haven’t heard anything from them recently. But the website is making us a little doubtful that this will come to pass.

The W Hollywood has been officially open for a week now and it looks like the place is already bumpin'. Our tipster stopped in one night this week and took a few snaps of the lobby and the Delphine restaurant.

Yes, these pictures are dark but according to our spy the entire lobby gets that dark at night. Or as our tipster says, "They keep it DIM in there."

Room rates this weekend start at $289 a night for a Wonderful room. That's a full prepaid, non-refundable rate. If you need something more flexible, the Best Available Rate listed is $299, also for a Wonderful room.

Hide Your Bubble Hems and Gladiator Sandals: W Hotels To Hire a 'Fashion Director'

February 4, 2010 at 10:13 AM | by juliana | 1 Comment

W Hotels have always tried to put themselves at the forefront of fashion trends, even going so far as to create an entire clothing and jewelry collection inspired by new W hotels around the world.

But that apparently is not enough. W Hotels has decided to appoint its very own Fashion Director. Which means that fashion will be even more of a presence during your W hotel stay.

According to the WSJ, W already has its director picked out--stylist Amanda Ross. Her duties will include working with designers to create staff uniforms, special collections and styling the look of the guestrooms and Living Rooms at the hotel.

We already told you about one Jersey hotel that won’t be luring the MTV Jersey Shore crew anytime soon. Now, here’s one much more likely to draw Snooki and the Stituation: the W Hoboken.

Not because it was reviewed by the New York Times this weekend. Oh, no. Forget highbrow journalism. It’s the pole that will reel them in.

This month, the W Hoboken is offering S-Factor workout classes as part of a Girls’ Night Out promotion. S-Factor, in case you don’t know, is a blend of striptease, ballet, and yoga, and all the rage with celebs like Kate Hudson.

As promised yesterday, we have a huge gallery of snapshots from the just-opened W Hollywood Hotel and Residences. Since we toured the place last week as the hotel was still undergoing some finishing touches, we weren't able to shoot any of the public spaces, just the model rooms.

But sit tight and enjoy these pictures from a Fabulous Room (the starting room category) and the Marvelous Suite. We'll have pictures from the public spaces for you next week.

Today's the day! W Hollywood Hotel and Residences has opened! And despite what we had previously thought, rooms are actually open tonight for $489 a night for a king bed.

We've been waiting for this W for a long time and it's a bit surreal that this day is finally here. We were able to tour the hotel last week and while traipsing through as the hotel put on its finishing touches, we chatted with the general manager, Jim McPartlin, in a Marvelous Suite which has views of downtown Los Angeles, the Hollywood Hills and the Griffith Observatory. (Note: the Marvelous adjective is W's room category name, not ours.)

McPartlin has worked for both W and Kimpton Hotels in the past and he was also the general manager at the Gramercy Park Hotel when it first opened in 2006. Now he's back with the W family, and back in Los Angeles, to welcome the W Hollywood into the mix.

W Hollywood’s Delphine Brasserie To Bring Cannes to Hollywood

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 6250 Hollywood Blvd. [map], Los Angeles, CA, United States, 90028

Last week, we got a sneak peek at the W Hollywood’s restaurant, Delphine, and while we can’t show you all our awesome in-construction shots, we can tell you all about what we saw, what we liked, and what you’ll be able to eat there after its opening on January 28.

Described as a “Riviera-style” brasserie, Delphine will be operated by the Innovative Dining Group, which also owns such L.A. landmark restaurants as Sushi Roku, the Boa Steakhouses and Katana. Delphine was designed by Mark Zeff, based in New York, with an airy, bright aesthetic meant to reflect the Cote d’Azur flavor of the menu.

Patterned tiling in bright white and aquamarine evoke the yacht-filled St. Tropez harbor, while wicker chairs and faded silvery wooden accents and cabinetry set a more casual, beachy tone. The best spot in the house might just be one of the stools at the coolly white marble bar in front, where guests can survey all the celebrity comings and goings (or just watch the tourist throngs outside).

Our favorite features in the 6,000-square-foot space? Enormous fans that actually say “BIG ASS” on them, and the undulating wooden barrel-vault ceilings.

The W Hollywood Will Provide 'Sanctuary' For Your All Your Gadgets

After touring the W Hollywood yesterday (sorry, no photos allowed just yet) we learned that the hotel will be using Sanctuary Chargers in-room. Awesome! But wait, what are Sanctuary chargers you ask?

Sanctuary is a product from Bluelounge that enables you to charge all of your gadgets in one box, by offering a multitude of charging cords from cellphones to iPods, iPhones, PDAs and other gadgets that use a USB or mini-USB port to charge up. In fact, The Sanctuary is capable of charging over 1,500 different types of gadgets. Here's how MacWorld describes using the product:

Using The Sanctuary couldn’t get much simpler: remove the tray, plug in its AC adapter, find the correct cord for your device, thread it through one of the notches, replace the tray, and voilà. A green LED light on the power brick will tell you that your devices are receiving power—if it starts to blink or dim, it’s a sign that you may have too many things connected, and that The Sanctuary has had to reduce its power intake.

W Hollywood is Currently Finessing Its Whatever-Whenever Technique

For a hotel brand that prides itself on having "talent shows" to hire its employees, it was only fitting that the new employees for the W Hollywood got the red carpet treatment when they entered the hotel to begin their intense training period. The hotel is set to open January 28th.

Last Thursday, the event to welcome the new W employees kicked off at 9am when the employees registered at the Pantages Theater to receive their official W Hollywood IDs. Then the general manager, Jim McPartlin, gave the troops a pep talk in front of the theater before leading them across Hollywood Boulevard and into the hotel for their first day of work.

W's Downtown New York Hotel is Now Delayed Until May 4

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 123 Washington Street [map], New York, ny, United States, 1006

Thought you could stay downtown at the new W New York come Super Bowl weekend? Oh sorry, think again.

The hotel has now pushed back its opening date--yet once again--to May 4, 2010.

Ugh. We're not sure what's happening here but we're starting to lose faith in this property. Back in June, it was announced that the hotel would open by December 1, 2009. Then that changed to February 4, 2010 and now, we're looking at May.

Guess that's means the BLT Grill is delayed as well. Perhaps W should just keep "Sometime in 2010" on their website instead.

Got any scoop on what's taking so long with this property? Tip us off.
