Viceroy Hotel Group is Heading to San Francisco

Fortunately, this room won't be around much longer.
Here's some very good news for the Viceroy Hotel Group---they've just nabbed a hotel in San Francisco.
The group has just been selected as the operator for Hotel Milano, a 108-room hotel near the Moscone Convention Center. (The hotel is owned by Pebblebrook Hotel Trust, who owns two other properties that Viceroy manages--The Delfina in Santa Monica and the Viceroy Miami.)
The hotel will undergo a much-needed renovation later this year including guest rooms (thank god!), common areas and the restaurant but it will keep its name and will be relaunched as one of Viceroy's "Urban Retreat" hotels.
With the opening of the Inn at The Presidio earlier this month and now this news about the Hotel Milano, it looks like things might be picking up in San Francisco once again after several years of quiet. Who will be next? (If you've got a hint, let us know!)

It's Official: All Tides Hotels Will Become Viceroy Hotels

Looks like they gotta swap out the door now.
When the Tides South Beach turned into a King & Grove Hotel back in December, we wondered what would happen to the Tides brand, which the Viceroy Hotel Group had been slowly spinning off in exotic destinations?
Today, we have our answer as Viceroy Hotel Group just announced that The Jalousie Plantation in St. Lucia and Tides Zihuatanejo in Mexico will be re-launched as Viceroy Hotels and Resorts properties this year. Remember, the Tides Riviera Maya already made the Viceroy switch back in January. Here's the official statement from Nicholas Clayton, president of Viceroy Hotel Group:

The Cassa Hotel in NYC is Now a Viceroy

Well this is a very bit of surprising news--The Cassa Hotel on West 45th Street in Manhattan now belongs to the Viceroy Hotel Group. Looks like the Year of the Dragon is getting off on a good foot for the hotel!
Management of the Cassa (whose owners filed for bankruptcy last April) was officially transferred to the Viceroy Hotel Group on January 20th and the hotel now belongs to Viceroy's Urban Retreat Collection. This also marks the first NYC hotel for the Viceroy group (finally!)
It doesn't appear as if much will change throughout the hotels 165 rooms and suites but the hotel is getting a new restaurant from Chef Laurent Tourondel--BLT American Brasserie which will serve classic American fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We reported on that opening back in Aprilbut it looks like it's really happening this time, and soon.
Interested in staying at the new, improved and Viceroy-ized Cassa Hotel? Rates for next weekend were going for just $279 a night for a deluxe room with a queen bed. Suites were starting at only $479 a night.

The Tides are Changing at Viceroy Hotel Group
Tides Riviera Maya, now the Viceroy Riviera Maya
Now that the Tides South Beach is no longer a Viceroy Hotel (it belongs to cool kid hotel brand, King & Grove), we've been wondering what would be happening to the Tides Hotel brand that Viceroy had spun-out from this iconic South Beach property. Well, today we have our answer. Sort of.
Just after the Tides Riviera Maya in Mexico finished up their sexy renovations, it was announced that the hotel is now going by the name Viceroy Riviera Maya.

Viceroy Hotel Group Ditches The Chamberlain

SEE UPDATE BELOW
Thanks to an eagle-eyed commenter, we learned that West Hollywood's Chamberlain Hotel was dumped by the Viceroy Hotel Group about a month ago.
No reason has been given but we're guessing the Viceroy is thinking a lot bigger these days than the small boutique hotels it once started out with. Or maybe there was something a little more scandalous to it. After all, the hotel just got a glamourous new look last spring.
This is the second hotel that Viceroy has dropped. The first was the Loden Vancouver back in December of 2009.
For now, judging by the Viceroy's Urban Retreats site, it looks like Maison 140 in Beverly Hills, the Avalon Beverly Hills and the Delfina in Santa Monica are all still part of the family. We'll see how long that lasts.
Anyone with scoop on what happened over at The Chamberlain? Let us know!

Kor Hotel Group Wants To Be Known as Viceroy Hotel Group

The Viceroy symbol as seen in the elevator at Viceroy Miami.
More Hotel Rebranding news! The Kor Hotel Group has announced this morning that they have officially changed their name to The Viceroy Hotel Group. The change follows the 2008 partnership that Kor Hotels entered with Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Development Company, who is now funding the Viceroy Hotels expansions.
But while the name changes, the game remains the same. From the press release:
Viceroy Hotel Group will continue to seek premier hotel and resort opportunities around the world, based upon uncompromising standards for location and guest appeal. Viceroy Hotel Group will function as an umbrella company for the sister hotel brands that formerly fell under Kor, Viceroy Hotels & Resorts, The Tides and Urban Retreats.
Some of those Urban Retreats include The Chamberlain and The Avalon Hotel in Los Angeles but surprisingly not The Loden Hotel in Vancouver. Looks like Viceroy must have shed this hotel somewhere along the way. You will also want to change up your bookmarks as www.korhotelgroup.com does not work. Instead, go to www.ViceroyHotelGroup.com.
Now, maybe with the introduction of these new name, the Viceroy collection will institute some sort of loyalty program for guests.
