Ça Va at The IC Times Square Will Open Next Week

Don't look now, but it's your nutritionist-recommended weekly dose of Todd English! Last week we told you that Todd's newest hotel restaurant, Ça Va at the InterContinental Times Square was not quite ready to open along with the rooms upstairs. But it now looks like you can get a taste of what Todd is dishing up next week.
Reps tell us that Ça Va will officially open next Monday, but it looks like you can't make reservations until next Thursday, July 29.

Inside Todd English's Food Hall at New York's Plaza Hotel
There's a good reason that The Plaza's basement mini shopping mall has been failing so horribly since it opened a couple years ago. No one goes down there! And after bakery Demel closed recently, it was completely sans spots to eat...until now.
On Friday, the Plaza Shops opened The Plaza Food Hall by Todd English, a kind of cafe/take-out/restaurant mix space accessible via escalators down from the lobby and exterior hotel entrances. We dropped by over the weekend andsurprise of surprisesnot only found the place packed, but also spotted Chef Todd English doing his duty to schmooze up the diners. Don't get too hopeful about The Plaza Shop though, because the rest of the basement was still a ghost town.

The Plaza to Open Todd English's Food Hall on Friday

Brooding celebrity chef with "bedroom eyes" Todd English is having a busy, busy year. First, he opened Public Urban Bar (P.U.B) inside CityCenter in Las Vegas. Then we learned he would be helming the new restaurant inside the forthcoming Intercontinental Times Square and last month, we found him aboard the Queen Mary 2 in the Captain's Chair no less.
Now he's on the eve of opening his new Food Hall inside the struggling retail space at The Plaza Hotel. (We guess he's just making up for a disastrous 2009, personal life-wise.)
The NY Post's Steve Cuozzo reports that the Todd English Food Hall will open this Friday. Here's what to expect:

Todd English is In The Kitchen at the IC Times Square? Of Course He Is

You’ll have to forgive us for not talking about this before, but can you blame us? What with his newest Vegas restaurant, the food court at The Plaza, his Great Jones Hotel project, and that ill-fated wedding last fall, we thought ubiquito-chef Todd English must have his hands full.
Silly us! Of course he is also in the kitchen at the new IC Times Square. I mean, he has that one hour left in his schedule every third Tuesday of the month and he must have something to do!

Todd English to Open an Upscale Food Hall Inside The Plaza
We must have missed this one during our Thanksgiving tofurkey coma but it looks like celeb chef Todd English is partnering up with The Plaza Hotel in New York to create an ambitious upscale food court hall that will open in Spring 2010. Say what?
Yes, The Plaza Food Hall by Todd English will debut in the famed hotel's concourse level designed by equally famous architect Jeffrey Beers.
The open space will feature eight stations and kitchens included a wine bar staffed by a sommelier, a cheese and charcuterie station, a sushi bar, a burger bar and rotisserie, an Asian noodle and dumpling bar, a brick oven pizza, fish and seafood grill, and an espresso and tea bar.
Phew. But that's not all:

Todd English Skips Out On His Wedding, Heads to W South Beach

Todd English, seen here with hotelier Jason Pomeranc.
Some folks may think celeb chef and soon to be hotelier Todd English is mighty foxy but we're not one of them. We can't really explain why but it's probably because of his eyebrows. Just had to put that out there.
Still, he was named one of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in 2001 and he's been steadily expanding his restaurant empire. He even worked in a guest judge appearance on this season's Top Chef (Olives at The Bellagio is his restaurant.) But women might be leery of English now that he left his bride-to-be, Erica Wang, at the altar over the weekend.
Was it a case of cold feet (English has two previously failed engagements and a divorce on his relationship resume)? A mutually decided upon moment of clarity for both of the to-be-betrothed? Or call us super cynical, but the thought has crossed our mind that maybe Todd is the mystery man that knocked up a certain Top Chef host, whose managed to keep mum about the sperm donor and due date. Again, just had to put that out there.

Chef Todd English Gets Out of the Kitchen and Into the Great Jones Hotel

The NYC Construction-philes at Curbed recently checked out the new boutique hotel going up in NoHo on Lafayette Street--The Great Jones Hotel & Spa--and found that there is nothing really great about the hotel's building progress. Curbed writes:
When we last checked in on the long-time-coming Great Jones Hotel astride Lafayette Street in Noho back in February, we counted six floors above the existing two-floor structure. Now: only seven more floors to go before the scheduled February 2010 opening! Nearly six months later, a whopping five more floors have been added. Hmm.
The hotel is going to be very small with only 48 rooms, a spa (connected actually to the already existing Great Jones Spa), a lounge/restaurant/bar and some retail space.
And the emphasis here might be on the lounge/restaurant/bar space as we found out that celeb chef Todd English is the man behind this new hotel, according to NoHo News. Yup, add Todd English to the Hot Hoteliers list.

Donovan House's Restaurant Finally Open for Business

No question about it, Jan. 21 was a day of hope in Washington, D.C. Skeptics and optimists alike found common ground in the ushering in of a new era. We speak, of course, of the looong-awaited opening of the Donovan House’s restaurant by Todd English. Apparently, Cha quietly opened its doors that day to the public with a limited menu, explained by way of “soft-opening” status.
Cha, which means tea in Chinese, is being described as Asian fusion. So far, they’re only serving sushi but a grand opening is in the non-specific future. Mid-to-late February is our best guess, as seen in this Craigslist ad seeking help for its front-of-house positions.
This being a Thompson hotel, the place attracted its share of celebrities over inauguration weekend for exclusive events, including Jon Bon Jovi, Lenny Kravitz, and Sheryl Crow (as you might recall), according to local D.C. rag The Hill.
The Hill also reported that English bragged about apparently finding a fan in Bon Jovi, who raved about “off-the-charts” sushi and beef skewers. (Side note: Does anyone else wonder if it’s embarrassing to speak in rockstar clichés like “off-the-charts?”)
Cha opens each night at 5:30 p.m.

Todd English Makes Us a Gild Hall Hotel Meal for $8
We caught chef Todd English's cooking segment on this morning's Today Show and surprise! he taught us (and the rest of America) how to make a dish from his brand new Gild Hall restaurant, Libertine ... for less than $8.00! It's a holiday miracle!
We always knew the prices of hotel meals were kicked up, but dayum! According to a Gild Hall staffer we spoke to, this entree sells for $22.00 on the restaurant's dinner menu ($16.00 for the lunch portion).

Todd English Restaurant to Open in Ft. Lauderdale's Il Lugano Hotel
Thanks to tipster TonyT, we just got word of celeb chef Todd English's plans to open da Campo Osteria at the boutique Il Lugano Hotel & Residences in Ft. Lauderdale. According to Dine Magazine:
This new restaurant will feature Northern Italian cuisine combined with a spectacular panoramic view. The menu will pay tribute to English’s Tuscan roots, and feature pastas, grilled entrees and flatbreads.
And the official word from the the restaurant's MySpace page (how trendy!) is that the Ft. Lauderdale spot is going to open up in November.
We're certain the food is going to be excellent, but we're not going to lie: we're a little bit worried about the ambiance -- specifically the music playlist. See, the restaurant's MySpace friends include LL Cool J, Creed, Christina Milian and Danity Kane. Um. Yeah. That sorta makes us worry, you know? A gentle suggestion to Todders: if you're considering booking one of those four to play your opening, we urge you to reconsider.

Todd English's Restaurant in Gild Hall is Seriously Bromantic

Our dream team: Todd English and Jason Pomeranc.
GQ -- the dude magazine for dudely dudes -- went inside The Libertine Restaurant, Todd English's brand new outpost in NYC's Gild Hall, and found it to be the perfect spot for a lovely, unusual romantic bromantic dinner. Plus, the reporter saw dead people and himself some fried chicken.
Right then!
Apparently, the place has a men's room and not a ladies' room immediately accessible. Whatevs. But it seems he wasn't quite expecting something so...over-the-top and seriously Thompson-esque with the ambiance.
