From tasty to tasteful – this is the Christmas display in the window at Belgraves, Thompson’s London outpost.

No blinged up trees or chocolate santas for them; this is a 3D winter woodland scene, handmade by paper cutter Terry Jackson. There are eight layers to the installation, and it’s backlit – that’s what gives it a 3D effect. Here's a close-up:

Thompson Hotels may be planning to head west (Seattle) and south (Nashville), but they’re not forgetting their NYC properties: Smyth Tribeca, which arrived after a much-delayed start just shy of six years ago, finished the first phase of its complete redesign last month.

That includes the entire ground floor, which has been divided in a series of smaller spaces, filled with a mixture of Scandinavian and American mid-century furniture. Above is the Den, with a fireplace that uses Guastavino tile – and if you wonder why that’s significant, it is the same that is used for the ceilings of city landmarks like Grand Central Terminal and Carnegie Hall.

Before and After: Sixty Soho Shows Off The Sexy Sixty Style

We love hotel renovations nearly just as much as we love new hotels. But what we really love about hotel renovations is seeing the transformation that happens when an old, tired and lackluster room gets a modern makeover and transforms into new, spiffed-up, stylish guest room. Or put more simply, we love comparing the Before and After.

Sixty Soho, formerly known as 60 Thompson, is the flagship of the newly formed Sixty Hotels collective from the original Thompson Hotels founders, led by Jason Pomeranc. But now that the hotel is no longer a Thompson, it was time to change up the look.

So Sixty enlisted Tara Bernerd & Partners, a London-based interior architecture and design to six, er, sex up the 97-guestrooms as well as the lobby and lobby bar. Here's what the rooms at 60 Thompson used to look like. Keep reading to see the new and improved Sixty Soho...

The Newest Thompson Hotel Will Be In...(UPDATED)

August 21, 2014 at 1:31 PM | by | Comments (0)

Nashville!

Thompson Hotels, fresh off their Seattle hotel announcement, is now heading to Nashville (but probably not with a tan because you know, Seattle.)

The Thompson Nashville will have 224 rooms, a ground floor restaurant, and an indoor/outdoor rooftop lounge when it opens in Summer 2016 in the Music City's The Gulch neighborhood. The building, which will start site work early next year, is being designed by Nashville-based Hastings Architecture Associates, LLC along with Atlanta-based design firm Reese Vanderbilt & Associates.

Parts and Labor Design, a NYC firm, will do the customized interiors to keep the look within the Thompson brand's signature look. So expect high-end design, interesting room layouts and custom furniture and lighting.

While we love the look of the building, we don't think Thompson will re-invent the wheel here as far as the interior design goes nor will they radically change up their amenities and services. But the location for Thompson is very cool, and may just be the ultimate selling point.

The Gulch is a revitalized urban area in downtown Nashville that's been steadily built up over the past 15 years, mixing in new buildings with renovated historic ones. Here's a bit more from The Gulch on their scene:

The Thompson Miami Beach Hotel Now Taking Reservations for November 14

Go To The Hotel's Web

August 6, 2014 at 1:33 PM | by | Comments (0)

True to their word, Thompson Miami Beach is actually opening later this year--in late October with reservations now being accepted online for November 14.

Located at 4041 Collins Avenue in a former condo building, the newest Thompson Hotel will have 380 hotel rooms featuring "beach-inspired accommodations and mid-century, international resort style." Designer Martin Brudnizki has been working on the design which will (of course) preserve the building's Art Deco flair and 1950s architecture.

And as we mentioned back in May, the Thompson will also have two pools, a small spa, three bars , including a speakeasy in a bungalow, and a 267-seat "classic brasserie" from James Beard Foundation Award-winning chef and Miami native Michelle Bernstein.

Room rates for November 14 are rather reasonable starting at $314 for an advanced purchase rate (no refunds) and $339 for a regular rate. That would be for a deluxe king room with custom-made 400 thread count SFERRA linens, rain showers in the bathroom, oversized Frette terrycloth robes, a 42” flat screen television with movie library, a gourmet mini-bar and a 24-hour in-room dining service.

Below is a snapshot of a model room, as posted on the hotel's website....

Thompson Hotels to Be Sleeping in Seattle in 2016

August 4, 2014 at 12:04 PM | by | Comments (0)

The Seattle hotel scene is certifiably "so hot right now."

Kimpton Hotels recently announced their fourth hotel for the Northwest city while SLS Hotels have "something lovely starting" and which should open in 2016. Now, Thompson Hotels wants to break a piece off.

Thompson Seattle will open at the northeast corner of 1st Avenue and Stewart Street with 12 stories, 159 rooms, 97 residences, a groundfloor restaurant and a rooftop deck with outdoor and indoor/rainy day space and killer views of the Olympus Mountain Range.

Perhaps even better for tourists, the hotel is adjacent to Pike Market. There is also an amazing coffee shop nearby. It's called Starbucks and it's so good! #sike

We don't have renderings to critique but we do know architectural teams from Olson Kundig and Jensen Fey (Washington-based) and interiors firm Munge Leung, will lead the design, with guidance from Commune Hotels’ in-house design team, of course.

If all goes well, Thompson Seattle will open its doors in 2016.

Thompson Chicago Now More Luxe, Thanks to New Lexus Rides

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 21 E Bellevue [map], Chicago, IL, United States, 60611
July 11, 2014 at 12:36 PM | by | Comments (0)

It's not a rare 1961 Ferrari GT California but it is pretty sweet.

Thompson Chicago has revved up their offerings for hotel guests, thanks to a new partnership with Lexus.

Guests can ride around town in a sleek Lexus IS 350 convertible or a ginormous LX 570 LUV--luxury utility vehicle--without any mileage restrictions, i.e. no one telling you the ride is only good for a one-mile radius from the hotel. The rides are complimentary and feature a pre-programmed navigation system with addresses to Chicago landmarks and nearby road trip destinations outside of Illinois. But of course, you'll still rely on Google Maps anyways.

Guests can also choose to ride in the house car, which is an LS 460 L flagship sedan, driven by a personal chauffeur and equipped with complimentary bottled water, the Chicago Tribune newspaper and Wi-Fi mobile hotspot functionality.

Rates next weekend at Thompson start at $429 a night so having the use of a Lexus during your stay makes that a little more bearable. And if you already own a Lexus, you can book the Thompson Chicago through the Lexus Drivers Site and get a $100 hotel credit which can be used towards dining and drinks at the hotel's Salone Nico or Nico Osteria.

The Thompson Hotel in Miami Beach is Finally Happening

Where: 4041 Collins Avenue [map], Miami Beach, FL, United States, 33140
May 28, 2014 at 8:48 AM | by | Comments (0)

The Miami hotel scene shows absolutely no signs of slowing down and now there's another big name in boutique to add into the mix--Thompson Miami Beach.

Thompson, under its former owners, tried to make the Hotel Victor their original Miami hotspot but the brand's new owners, Commune Hotels and Resorts decided to attach themselves to a different project.

Located at 4041 Collins Avenue in a former cone building, close-ish to the raging hotspot that is the Fontainbleau, the Thompson Hotel will have 380 hotel rooms featuring "beach-inspired accommodations and mid-century, international resort style." Designer Martin Brudnizki is in charge of the design which will (of course) preserve the building's Art Deco flair and 1950s architecture.

The Thompson will also have two pools, a small spa, three bars and a 267-seat "classic brasserie" from James Beard Foundation Award-winning chef and Miami native Michelle Bernstein.

5 Beekman Street Will Turn Into The Beekman Hotel Next Summer

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 5 Beekman Street [map], New York, NY, United States
May 1, 2014 at 11:20 AM | by | Comment (1)

It's been two years since we last checked in on the progress at 5 Beekman Street, an old, historic office building downtown that was revealed to have incredible glass roof over its atrium, but according to the NY Times article, the hotel will now open in summer 2015.

Everything else at the hotel is coming along as scheduled. The owners snapped up an adjacent parcel next door to 5 Beekman to build more hotel rooms as well as condos. The whole shebang will have 287 hotel rooms spread out over the two buildings, and 68 residences in the new building which will also house two restaurants and a lounge on its ground floor. The hotel will be called The Beekman Hotel and it will be operated by Commune Hotels under the Thompson Hotels brand.

Some cool design features of the historic building that The Beekman will keep include "gold brackets shaped like dragons, metal grilles patterned with leaves, and even some walls with peeling paint...."

We know what you're thinking, how very "Ace" of them. So it's no surprise that one of the companies developing the Beekman also helped developed the Ace and The Noman.

There's no early word on pricing but given that everything is a little cheaper downtown we're keeping our fingers crossed for no more than $350 a night.

Commune Planning Two More Hotels for Manhattan [UPDATED]

April 28, 2014 at 4:52 PM | by | Comments (0)

After the Thompson Hotel founders split from Commune Hotels, they managed to walk away with most of their NYC properties, save for Gild Hall (pictured above) and Smyth Tribeca. The other properties have since been rebranded as Sixty Hotels.

But now Commune is working on opening two new hotels in Manhattan. That's in addition to the two tommie hotels that are expected to open in 2015 and 2016.

Crain's reports that Commune will open a new Thompson hotel in 2016 along with an entirely new hotel which will have a residential component. Say what? UPDATE: A Commune rep told us this will not be a new brand but rather they aren't ready to divulge the brand name for the new hotel. Our apologies for getting too excited about this.
