The Sky Lodge Kicks Off Sundance Film Festival With…Spinning Classes?

Go To The Hotel's Web

The Sundance Film Festival began yesterday and if you're looking for a hotel room, be prepared to shell out a lot of money just to rub shoulders with film producers, directors, agents, actors and the inevitable crop of reality TV stars. (However, HotelTonight is offering The Cliff Lodge a simple kind of hotel, for $249 a night. )

While most hotels use the festival to throw huge parties or open up lavish gifting suites, The Sky Lodge, an all-suite luxury note has gone a different route--by opening a pop-up Soul Cycle spinning studio.

Have you heard the buzz? SoulCycle is popping up at the Sundance Film Festival! That's right, we're packing up our yellow bikes and two rockstar instructors for a three-day cardio party in Park City, from Friday, January 17 through Sunday, January 19.

They even created a black and white "short" about the instructors and the yellow Soul Cycle. While the video won't win any awards, it does have some helpful information about the spinning classes. The blog also has the times and how to nab a seat (email SUNDANCE@SOUL-CYCLE.COM).

Meanwhile, the Sky Lodge is completely sold-out through January 27th. Next year, kiddos!

We Predict The Washington School House Hotel Will Soon Have a Waiting List

There's a new hotel opening in Park City later this month but with only 12 guest rooms in the middle of downtown, you can forget about booking it for the Sundance. That said, when the ski season and film festival fervor dies down a bit, the Washington School House will be a cool place to stay.

The hotel is, as its name implies, one of the last original school houses in the United States, originally built in 1889 with quarried limestone. It's even listed on the National Historic Registry. Yet approval was given for a hotel to be created within its original structure and the result is 12 shishi guestrooms with crisp white Pratesi linens on the beds, fancy antique furniture and heated bathroom floors.

Now is Probably a Good Time to Book Your Hotel Room for Sundance

November 7, 2011 at 2:38 PM | by | Comments (0)

Usually, we aren't talking hotels for the Sundance Film Festival until Santa Claus has made his way down the chimney but we realized now might actually be a good time to book your hotel room.

The festival is happening this year from January 19-29 as always in Park City, Utah. The festival's website is encouraging guests to book through their site and save up to 25 percent off on lodging. The festival is also offering a Best Rate Guarantee meaning if you see a better rate, they promise to match it. And if you book through them, they will give you two free movie vouchers with each room booking.

So what's on offer?

Checking rooms for January 19-25, we found some really good options. There was the Yarrow Resort (one mile from Main Street), a popular spot for after parties and meetings and such, at $489 a night. The Sky Lodge on Main Street was open too but at an eye-watering $1,700 a night. That's because it's the official hotel of the festival. But hey, availability is availability right? And we can't forget about their waterfall bathtubs.

Well it's a Montage Hotel, did you really expect lower room rates?

The Montage Deer Valley has stayed true to its December 2010 opening date and in hitting up the hotel's website today we see that the luxury ski resort in Park City will open on December 15 with rooms starting at $675 a night for a Resort king or two queens.

Prices go up from there but only the view changes as all of the standard rooms start at a generous 600sq.ft. with separate sitting areas, gas fireplaces, deep soaking tubs in the bath and heated floors. A Vista room gives you views of the resort grounds and mountains for $755 a night while the Peak rooms give you panoramic views of the ski slope or valleys for $835 a night.

But once you enter the suite category, that's when the rooms jump to a whopping 1,050-1,200sq.ft. with living and dining areas, fireplaces and 1.75 baths. Those start at $995 a night on December 15.

The Sky Lodge's Bar To Star As Another Bar at Sundance this Sunday

Imagine this room is gold, and that the guy at the bar is Orlando Bloom.

So, Sundance started today. If you’re a movie buff, stalker, fashion publicist, or a member of the paparazzi, you probably knew that. If you don’t happen to be au fait with the Sundance tradition of screenings, glam ski gear, swag, and parties, let us fill you in: it’s all pretence. Even the parties are playing make believe this year. Case in point, Sunday night’s “Funday” party at Park City’s Sky Lodge.

Sundance and Super Bowl Hotel Rooms Still Up for Grabs

Still looking for a room for the Sundance Film Festival in Park City? Willing to bet that your favorite team makes it to the Super Bowl? There are still some options open for you but we have to say it may require film producer cash and trust fund liquidation to get there.

A commenter let us know that the Yarrow Hotel in Park City still has rooms open but that they were closed off to third party booking sites. Call the hotel directly for their availability. Another commenter, Konnie, is looking to share a room for Park City. Willing to take a chance on this one? She's left her contact info for you.

The Sundance Film Festival Might Be 'Over' But Rooms Are Sold-Out

January 8, 2010 at 1:51 PM | by | Comments (4)

The "casting couch" at the Dakota Mountain Lodge will cost you close to $1,000 a night during Sundance.

The wise famewhore guru that is Perez Hilton has declared the Sundance Film Festival "over" and the festival that has taken its place is now South by Southwest (SXSW).

Nevertheless, celebs and film makers are still headed to Park City for the festival on January 21st. And we got a request from a reader to find a reasonably priced room for Sundance for two people for the first weekend.

Sadly, we don't have great news. As usual, The Park City Marriott, the festival's official hotel, and the popular Yarrow Hotel, are sold-out. And there are now only two hotels that are listed on the film festival's website as having availability:

· Fox Point at Redstone : Rooms start at a steep $439 a night but if you book a rezzie for four nights or longer, your last night is free (will be credited at check-out.)
· Chateau at Silver Lake: Located in Deer Valley but only a few miles from Main Street, rooms are a hefty $599 a night.

Still Wanna Go to Sundance? There Are Some Options

January 13, 2009 at 9:40 AM | by | Comments (0)

Every year when the Sundance Film Festival rolls into Park City, Utah, we get an email from someone within the Marriott Summit Watch on Main Street offering up their time shares for the week. And this year is no different.

Two bedroom villas are available for four nights for a rather good price of $600. These villas can sleep eight people and are located at the base of the Town Lift, right near all the Sundance events.

On site amenities include an indoor/outdoor heated pool, four whirlpool spas, an organized and comprehensive activities program for children and adults, a restaurant, and an exercise facility.

The villas are available from January 16-25. If you're hard up for a Sundance rental, contact Jim Swartz at jswartsr@aol.com.

Outside of timeshares, the popular Stein Erikson Lodge has a room open but it's through Craigslist which can sometimes be an iffy situation. The dates are Jan. 16-19 and price is on request.

The Yarrow Resort, an official Sundance Hotel, has rooms open on the tail-end of the festival from Jan. 21-23 at $229 a night for a deluxe king guestroom. Also available for the same rate is a deluxe double queen room. So if Sundance still matters to you, there is a way to get there.

Where to Score Last-Minute Rooms for Sundance 2009

January 6, 2009 at 12:44 PM | by | Comments (0)

Newpark Resort

Sundance Film Festival is right around the corner (January 15-29), and if you were planning to hit up Park City to take it all in, there may still be hope of finding a room even this far out. The LA Times reports that occupancy has been down 15% to 25% in PC this winter — which means bad things for Park City and its hotels, but it could mean good things for you in terms of deals and availability.

According to LAT, the brand new upscale Newpark Resort, the community's newest upscale hotel, is offering flat room rates all the way through the end of March #151; including the dates of the film fest. Standard rooms are going for only $129 a night, and one-bedroom suites (including a hot tub and kitchen!) are going for $169. For real.

LAT's Sundance article also mentions Silver King Hotel, offering a free pair of Rossignol skis, poles and bindings with the purchase of a seven-night stay.

And finally, if you're desperate, allow us to point you toward an offer we found on good ol' Craigslist for the Park City Marriott (which, as far as we can see, has no availability for at least the first weekend of Sundance right now):

1 room at the park city marriott for the first weekend of the sundance film festival. checkin january 16th 2009, checkout january 19th 2009. two queen beds. for $500, i will transfer the room to your name. you will be responsible for the normal room charges (approx $450/night) and obviously any other charges during your stay.

Just a friendly reminder to always check out the room scalpers on Craigslist as a last resort — you may find some gems.

Ski Hotels 2008: Park City's Most Convenient

When we went out to Park City, Utah last month, we crashed at The Yarrow Hotel. But if we were looking to do a ski vacation rather than a Sundance trip, the Treasure Mountain Inn would be our pick.

The green hotel's studio units offer up condo-like amenities--balcony, kitchens, separate seating area--right in the heart of town. To get to Park City Mountain Resort, it's an easy walk downhill to the Town Lift which will haul you right up to the slopes.

If the apres is just as important to you as the ski, Treasure Mountain is ideally situated on Main Street. You're basically across the street from the Wasatch Brew Pub, and more bars and music venues are just down the street.

We were just out in Park City, trying our hand at celeb spotting during Sundance. Oh, and there were some films on, too. Rooms were tight all over town, but we managed to score a basic double at the Yarrow Hotel.

On first glance room 148 didn't impress us too much. In fact, it sort of reminded us of a suburban Comfort Inn. But it was pretty big and there was a large minifridge in the room, which is key for a ski town hotel.

Last-Minute Room for Sundance Film Festival

While most of the hot celeb action for Sundance went on over the weekend (and our bro Jaunted was there to cover it all), there are still films being shown throughout this weekend. And we just heard of a last-minute lodging option at the Marriott Summit Watch Hotel.

MaryDean writes to us:

I've got a 1 bedroom suite available at Marriott Summit Watch on Main Street Monday Jan 21st to Friday Jan 25th.

No word on how much but we did notice a few going last week for $600 a night. If you are hard up for a room, send us a line and we'll put you in touch with Mary.
