Our Set List for the Ultimate Hotel Turndown Service

July 8, 2011 at 12:05 PM | by | Comments (0)

And before we say goodnight to Sleep Week allow us to leave you with some sweet thoughts on turndown service.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhh. Turndown service. Not every hotel offers this but for the ones that do, let us tell you something--a mint on the pillow and a hastily pulled back duvet cover is not going to do it.

No, no, no. We want (not to mention, paid for) the most relaxing, pampering, turndown service there is, a sort of hazy cocoon of sleep-inducing aura that we cannot get at home.

In short, turndown service is practically akin to a christening of one of the babies from Real Housewives of New Jersey--if you're gonna do it, you better go all out! (Just don't get into a brawl as it's happening though.)

Here is our set list, if you will, for the Ultimate Hotel Turndown Service.

No, not these ones. The ones below!

Our unofficial Sleep Week is drawing to an end and we don't wanna wake up. Fortunately, we don't have to just yet. After we detailed our favorite hotel beds on Wednesday, TripAdvisor thoughtfully retweeted our story, asking folks to chime in with their favorite hotel beds. Coupled with the comments on our story, we've got a pretty good list going of best hotel beds worldwide.

Because a good night's sleep is a "basic human right" when paying for a hotel room, we thought you should see where some of the best hotel beds can be found.

HotelChatter's Favorite Hotel Beds Ever

July 6, 2011 at 3:00 PM | by | Comments (6)

Sleep Week continues!

Yesterday, we looked at some of the things you hotel guests do to send yourself off to dreamland in a strange new hotel bed. And not surprisingly, a lot of you said the most crucial part of your sleep routine was the comfiness of the bed--in that if the bed is good, there shouldn't be any problems with getting shut-eye.

So that leads us to the question--where are the best hotel beds? We polled some of our editors and frequent contributors from our family of travel sites--HotelChatter, Jaunted and VegasChatter--(yup, we're all related!) and asked them to submit their favorite hotel bed experiences.

And they are....

How Do You Get to Sleep in a Strange New Hotel Bed?

July 5, 2011 at 10:38 AM | by | Comments (5)

Looking at this, we're already mapping out our best strategy for falling asleep as quick as possible.

Welcome to Unofficial Sleep Week on HotelChatter! An entire week (ok, really just four days) devoted to hotel sleeping habits, hotel beds and hotel amenities designed to help you get the best rest.

What actually inspired this post was a recent Hotels.com survey on the sleeping patterns of travelers in hotels. Some sample discoveries? Ozzies prefer TV to sex, Hong Kong guests like to eat in bed, Indian travelers care the most about the hotel mattress quality, Spaniards like to get frisky and Mexican guests think the hotel beds are better than their ones at home.

The survey also touched upon some other sleep habits of travelers, specifically how they get to sleep in a new hotel bed. While hotels are in a fierce competition to provide the luxest bed in hopes of giving their guests the most supreme sleep possible, sometimes our travel-weary bodies can't adjust to a foreign hotel bed on the first night.

And since good old U.S. of A seems to have been left out of the survey, we thought this was a good time to ask you dear readers how do you get to sleep in a strange new hotel bed?*
