We Just Fell Down the Rabbit Hole With sbe's New Website

March 19, 2014 at 4:41 PM | by | Comment (1)

sbe, the nightlife and hospitality company behind SLS Hotels, has given their website a complete makeover, at last consolidating all their entertainment and hotel sites together in one spot, and throwing in some bonus blog content too.

Looking a lot like the recent redo of the Raleigh Hotel website, the new sbe site is heavy on the visuals but is still easy to navigate, thanks to helpful pop-up boxes. It's also blessedly free of annoying music.

The home page is anchored by a giant photo (a male model fully clothed in a pool and biting on a stiletto heel) with a "Learn More" button hyping the arrival of the SLS Las Vegas on Labor Day Weekend. Below that is a grid of photos and quotes. When you linger over one of the squares, a pop-up box tells you what that particular photo or quote is about. If you'd rather not bother with this grid, send your cursor to the left side of the page for a more traditional website menu.

Scrolling down the website, you'll see ways to find/follow the sbe collection on social media, as well as learn more about the company, and our personal favorite, check the calendar to see what events are happening at what venues. The site, of course, has been "device optimized" meaning it works just as seamlessly on a mobile and table device as it does on your computer.

While we were still sobbing into our colorful patterned knitwear over the apparent death of the Missoni hotel brand, came news of another fashion house getting onto the designer hotel bandwagon. Our brief flicker of excitement was extinguished somewhat, however, when we found out it's Tommy Hilfiger.

Actually, the king of prep has been sniffing around the hotel industry for quite a while, though nothing has as yet come out of his hotel opening plans. He even tried to buy the former MetLife clocktower at 5 Madison Avenue (future site of the New York City Edition Hotel) a few years back, but that didn't work out for him.

The Raleigh Hotel Glams Up Its Website

The best thing a hotel could do for its website is to make everything easy. Easy to book. Easy to look up hotel photos and information. Easy to view on a mobile device. The new website for South Beach’s Raleigh Hotelgets all these right.

The Miami hotel opened in 1942, and with the help of old Hollywood starlets like Esther Williams, it became one of the hotels that encapsulated the South Beach allure we know today. Fast foward 60 years later to 2012, when hip hotelier Sam Nazarian of sbe bought the historic hotel for $55 million (previously, Andre Balazs had managed The Raleigh.)

Since then, the Raleigh has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation. And, though the hotel and website have undergone some major changes, neither has lost any of its vintage glamour or charm.

Hyde Hotels Are Real and They Are Really Happening

Where: FL, United States
November 27, 2013 at 11:30 AM | by | Comments (0)

When we stumbled across the trademark for Hyde Hotels earlier this month, we had no idea if this would actually happen. Or maybe we were just trying not to get our hopes up. But this morning, we've learned that Hyde Hotels, Resorts & Residences are real and they are really happening--in Midtown Miami and Hollywood Beach, Florida. sbe has partnered up with developer Jorge Perez and his company, The Related Group, a prolific builder of luxury condominiums and multi-family residences, to get the brand going.

But the question on everyone's mind is now--how does one transform a nightclub brand into a hotel brand? By focusing on design, for starters. Hyde Hotels want to "strike a balance between innovation and functionality. Hyde will give guests everything they need, without the clutter of items they don’t." And as with all new hotels, technology will be a huge focus, allowing guest to customize everything from their interactions with hotel staff to personalized in-room and on-property amenities. Lastly, the hotel's nightclub roots will shine through with the brand's connections to the worlds of music, fashion, art and even, socializing.

Here's what Sam Nazarian, founder, chairman and CEO of sbe, has to say about his newest hotel brand:

“The Hyde brand has always been defined by its connectivity to music, fashion, art and socializing, where luxury is not about pretense or posturing, but rather authentic style with a commitment to facilitating distinct lifestyle experiences. Past collaborations with Related (ex. SLS Hotel & Residences Brickell) show that they understand how the Hyde Hotels, Resorts & Residences brand can fill a major void in the marketplace, and can adapt to an array of global communities.”

Hyde Hotel will also be given out special VIP perks to their hotel guests and residence owners such as exclusive access to the Hyde portfolio, including outposts at Los Angeles’ STAPLES Center, the Bellagio in Las Vegas, SLS South Beach and the American Airlines Arena, as well as the entire sbe hospitality platform which has over 80 properties in the hotel, restaurant and nightlife properties realm.

The Redbury South Beach Will Open Just in Time for Art Basel

Great news for Art Basel goers and Miami lovers alike--The Redbury South Beach will open on December 1st, just a few days before the massive art fair takes over the city on December 5.

We've been eagerly anticipating The Redbury's arrival, not just because we love the original Redbury in Hollywood so much, but because the hotel, whose mission is to provide you with a "home away from home" will offering some crazy sexy cool amenities and services like Crosley record players with a collection of vinyl curated by Capitol Records and Universal Music Enterprises, 24-hour room service from Tony Mantuano's Lorenzo restaurant downstairs, complimentary BMW house car service with a three-mile radius, complimentary WiFI, 24-hour Redbury Hosts service and perhaps most importantly, VIP access to the sbe Collection.

This ultra-perk gets you inside the nightclubs, bars, restos, pools and beaches at the SLS Hotel and The Raleigh which is directly across the street as well as any other sbe restaurant or bar, including the Hyde lounge at the American Airlines arena.

While we couldn't find one of the hotel's 69 rooms available on opening night, we did find a room on December 16th for $221. Not bad for these peppy hotel rooms with a real residential feel and access to the sbe wonderland.

The Redbury Looks Straight Out of a Music Video (Because It Is)

September 10, 2013 at 6:50 PM | by | Comments (0)

We fell in lurve with The Redbury's rock glam interiors from the moment we stepped inside the hotel back in 2010. And now the hotel has some real rock credibility to tout.

The new music video for the popular Australian band, The Rubens, was recently filmed at The Redbury. The concept for the video was actually conceived by the hotel's designer himself, Matthew Rolston, who has an impressive list of music videos on his filmography resume.

The song, "The Best We Got", is a little too emo for our tastes but the video is super sexy and it was shot entirely at The Redbury--in the lobby, on the rooftop, and of course, in the guestrooms. They even have the band dining with some hot girls at the hotel's restaurant, Cleo (girls who later get nearly naked on the beds.)

No doubt, this video will fuel the rock star dreams of adolescent boys everywhere. Not to mention, it's a clever way of enticing Australians--the #1 international feeder market for LA--to come stay at The Redbury.

W SoBe Owner and SLS Master Finally Admit To Buying Miami’s Raleigh Hotel

Today, David Edelstein – owner of W South Beach – and Sam Nazarian – the wizard behind the sbe brand and owner of the new SLS Hotel South Beach announced plans to join ranks and buy Miami’s Raleigh Hotel.

Now, when we chatted over this in August, no one wanted to make an official comment. It was like some weird FB relationship status--"I won't change mine until you change yours!" OK. Now we know you're together.

Both men, famous for their hotel business savvy, will scoop up the landmark Raleigh from the Brilla Group and set out to revamp the Art Deco property that was the place to be when it opened in the ‘40s on Collins Avenue.

Listen, this is a powerful partnership—Edelstein is known for the trendy W hotel and developing such areas as Miami’s Lincoln Road mall, and Nazarian’s sbe group has dominated the swank SLS brand for a minute. Big $$ and big dream at work, here.

But, will these forward thinkers respect and keep the hotel’s historical identity in mind?

There's a reason we call our coverage of the Miami hotel scene Miami Hotel Mambo--things are always changing down there at a rapid pace. Like what's happened recently with The Raleigh Hotel.

After hottie hotelier Andre Balazs gave up the property a few years ago, we found things to be rather agreeable back in 2010, even if there was a bit of fugly carpeting throughout. Yet the hotel is changing once again.

Currently, the hotel's website says The Brilla Group manages and owns the hotel but according to this report from Miami.com, the hotel has some very interesting new owners--the developer of the W South Beach and SBE Development Group which just opened The SLS South Beach. The hotel is believed to have been sold for just over $55 million.

The Redbury in Hollywood is Heading to New York

April 11, 2011 at 3:15 PM | by | Comments (0)

It looks like The Redbury Hotel in Hollywood is doing well enough to strike out for New York.

A while back, Eater LA reported that the hotel from Sam Nazarian's SBE group would be heading to Soho. Indeed a recent press release from SBE mentions the New York expansion.

The details are sparse but we hope they can find a way to export those awesome giant suites to NYC. That would be huge, in so many ways.

In other SBE news, the SLS South Beach still won't open until March 2012 but they've already hired a general manager. But it's two steps forward and one step back as the Sahara Las Vegas, which is owned by SBE, is still closing on May 16.
