Out With the Old, In With Cleo at The Redbury South Beach

The Redbury South Beach just celebrated its first birthday by opening a new restaurant, Cleo.

The Redbury shuttered Tony Mantuano's Lorenzo restaurant a while ago to install the newest outpost of Cleo, a Mediterranean-style restaurant found at The Redbury in Hollywood as well as the SLS Las Vegas.

Aside from Cleo's staple dishes of flatbreads and tanginess, Chef Danny Elmaleh has created a few plates especially for Miami like the Lamb Shawarma, Wagyu Tongue Kebabs, Potato Latkes and Monkfish Tagine. And of course, this being Miami, cocktails are abound on the menu. We recommend the Mediterrean margarita made with Avion Tequila, a housemade fig-almond syrup and fresh lime.

Looking to make a night of it? Rooms at The Redbury, which have a hip apartment feel, start at $329 a night. For just $334 a night, you can add a little brekkie to go.

Here's The Code...for SLS Hotels' New Loyalty Program

October 22, 2014 at 4:10 PM | by | Comments (0)

At long last, SBE, parent company of nightclubs, restaurants and SLS Hotels has FINALLY introduced its new loyalty program. And boy, is this long overdue. We've been waiting for this since July 2011 when the existing program, SBE Preferred, stopped taking new members.

Called THE CODE, the program was actually introduced first as the players club program at the new SLS Las Vegas. When we inquired at SLS casino about signing up, we asked if The Code worked for all SBE properties across the U.S. We were told that it didn't at the time but that eventually it would. Now the program is open for all SBE venues but The Code heavily favors SLS Las Vegas in terms of perks and benefits.

Here's what The Code promises (FWIW, we do dig that name.)

SLS Hotels Now Offering a More 'LUX' Option

May 27, 2014 at 9:33 AM | by | Comment (1)

When we told you what to expect at the SLS Las Vegas last week, we mentioned the three different room towers at the property--World, Story and Lux. Well, now it turns out SLS LUX isn't just a room tower in Vegas but a new brand within a brand from SLS Hotels.

SLS LUX will be an all-suite and residential experience for guests with upgraded amenities and personalized VIP services. The first SLS LUX will obviously open in Vegas over Labor Day Weekend but SLS is also planning another SLS LUX in Miami (pictured above) in 2016 to complement the upcoming SLS Brickell Hotel & Residences, which will open next year.

This new LUX will have 450 residences, 85 luxury suites, a tennis and fitness center, rooftop pool, wine cellar, cigar room and two restaurants, Katsuya and SBar. Yabu Pushelberg will do the interiors while works from Colombian sculptor Fernando Botero will adorn the entrance. So in case you were ever disappointed with the basic-ness of an SLS room, the LUX room should have whatever you're looking for. We hope.

SLS says additional LUX locations are already in development in the U.S. Meanwhile, SLS Park Avenue won't be opening this year but in 2015 instead.

What to See, Like and Savor at The SLS Las Vegas, Opening in August

Last week, we got to the tour the most ambitious SLS Hotel project yet--the SLS Las Vegas Hotel and Casino at the far end of the Las Vegas Strip, where the old Sahara casino used to be.

For "old" Vegas fans, there's not much of the original Sahara left, aside from the bones of the room towers and casino building. But if you want a thrilling new way to do up Vegas, baby, Vegas, the SLS will satisfy little and large spenders alike. Sorry, we got carried away with SLS-speak. What we meant to say is, there will be something for everyone here. You may not need to leave the SLS at all.

THE ROOMS
As we mentioned on Friday, there will be three different room towers, each with a different category of rooms inside.

The World Tower will feature SLS "lite" sort of rooms. These rooms are no bigger than 400-sq.ft. (with the exception of a suite) and they are more fun and functional rather than over-the-top luxurious.

Rob Oseland, president and COO of SLS Las Vegas told us these rooms were designed by Philippe Starck to be "cost effective chic."

There's an exclusive SLS bed (called Sleep Lying Still from Beauty Rest by Simmons Hospitality), 300-thread count bedding, down pillows and a comfy little couch at the foot of the bed. There's also the SLS-branded Saints & Sinners minibar goodies as well as a desk and rolling chair and a flat-screen TV.

And instead of putting in a lot of luxury layers where room technology is concerned, Oseland said SLS will simply boost the cell reception and install a fast WiFi network, which at the end of the day, is really what guests want from their hotel rooms. The World Tower rooms are the starting room rate at $149 a night on August 25. Yet if you want some luxurious settings, you should upgrade up to the Lux Tower.

We Just Fell Down the Rabbit Hole With sbe's New Website

March 19, 2014 at 4:41 PM | by | Comment (1)

sbe, the nightlife and hospitality company behind SLS Hotels, has given their website a complete makeover, at last consolidating all their entertainment and hotel sites together in one spot, and throwing in some bonus blog content too.

Looking a lot like the recent redo of the Raleigh Hotel website, the new sbe site is heavy on the visuals but is still easy to navigate, thanks to helpful pop-up boxes. It's also blessedly free of annoying music.

The home page is anchored by a giant photo (a male model fully clothed in a pool and biting on a stiletto heel) with a "Learn More" button hyping the arrival of the SLS Las Vegas on Labor Day Weekend. Below that is a grid of photos and quotes. When you linger over one of the squares, a pop-up box tells you what that particular photo or quote is about. If you'd rather not bother with this grid, send your cursor to the left side of the page for a more traditional website menu.

Scrolling down the website, you'll see ways to find/follow the sbe collection on social media, as well as learn more about the company, and our personal favorite, check the calendar to see what events are happening at what venues. The site, of course, has been "device optimized" meaning it works just as seamlessly on a mobile and table device as it does on your computer.

So Long Summer: SLS Las Vegas to Open Labor Day Weekend

February 5, 2014 at 5:23 PM | by | Comments (0)

It's been nearly three years since the legendary Sahara Hotel closed down in Las Vegas and we've been stalking the property's transformation into the SLS Las Vegas ever since. And now, thanks to our super SLS stalker sibling, VegasChatter, we've got an opening date--Labor Day Weekend.

Hotelier Sam Nazarian announced the date on the SLS blog simply saying:

Hello Vegas! It’s been an incredible journey these past few years and I’m proud and humbled by some big news – SLS Las Vegas is officially opening Labor Day Weekend 2014. Looking forward to toasting The Strip’s next chapter with you! We are “back” indeed!

No word on when the room reservations will open or how much they will cost but given that Labor Day weekend is a big weekend in Vegas and this is a much-hyped new hotel and casino, we bet it will be a pretty penny. But we'll do our best to get in there on opening day.

Still interested in attending opening weekend? You can always book the SLS 5th Anniversary Package which includes two tickets to the SLS Las Vegas opening. For "only" $10,000!

SBE Loves LA: Downtown May Also Get an SLS Hotel

November 25, 2013 at 12:43 PM | by | Comments (0)

Downtown LA is hot for boutique hotels. Or maybe boutique hotels are hot for Downtown LA. Either way, the once-forgotten district of the City of Angels is definitely having a comeback moment--as far as hip, design-forward, nightlife-oriented hotels are concerned.

Aside from the big brand hotels near the Staples Center, we've got an Ace Hotel coming in January, a Virgin Hotel coming sometime soon and whenever the owners get their act together, the Hotel Clark with its rooftop pool. Now hotelier Sam Nazarian is sniffing around the area for a possible site for an SLS Hotel.

GlobeSt.com reports that SBE Entertainment is looking at a development site near the Walt Disney Concert Hall in the Bunker Hill neighborhood. While this could definitely be for a new SLS Hotel, remember SBE is spinning off its Redbury Hotel (the one in Miami is currently in a soft opening for family and friends but should be ready to go before Art Basel) and we also uncovered a trademark for Hyde Hotels.

So there's a few ways this hotel could swing. Either way, Someone Likes Surprises and it's us so we'll take either an SLS, a Redbury or a Hyde.

Well, Lookie Here: Hyde Hotels

November 4, 2013 at 5:57 PM | by | Comment (1)

We've known that SLS Hotels are eager to expand all over the place but we found something a little unexpected today while cruising the U.S. Trademarks website--Hyde Hotels.

Registered in the middle of September, the trademark is owned by SBE, the parent company of SLS. If you aren't familiar with SBE, they also run the Hyde chain of nightclubs found in LA, Las Vegas (at the Bellagio) and in Miami at the SLS South Beach. You can peep some pics from Hyde Beach, the pool and beach scene at the SLS South Beach here.

Interestingly, under the trademark's goods and services, it also includes "gaming development" and "construction of hotel, resort, casino, restaurant, bar, and nightclub property." As SLS gets ready to open their SLS Las Vegas property with a full-fledged casino floor, this has us especially intrigued. Meanwhile, SLS already has another hotel brand in the works, The Redbury, which has a flagship hotel in Hollywood and another about to open in Miami Beach.

Of course, registering a trademark can't be taken as a sign that this hotel brand will actually happen. But if it does, this might be the first-ever, real-life translation of the standard boutique hotel review-- "a nightclub with hotel rooms attached."

SLS Hotels Announce Seriously Major Expansion Plans

Where: China
July 10, 2013 at 8:48 AM | by | Comment (1)

We can hardly keep up with all the new SLS Hotels that have been announced. So far, we've got New York, Las Vegas, Chicago, Seattle and a second hotel in Miami in Brickell. And now we must add Shanghai, Beijing, Wuxi, and Kunming to the list. Oh yes, hotelier Sam Nazarian is taking his SLS brand to China.

The SLS hotels will launch in China by 2015 as part of a partnership with the Chinese company, Palace Hospitality, who have a proven track record for growing hospitality projects. Hence, the four planned hotels and not just one.

The SLS hotels in China probably won't look the same as the ones in the U.S. as they are being tailored for the Chinese market (at least from a design standpoint) but you can expect the SLS trademark combo of restaurants + nightclubs to remain. If all goes well, SLS could open in more additional Chinese markets after the initial four.

Meanwhile, in the China announcement, we noticed a bit on SLS Philadelphia which is expected to open within the next three years. Sheesh. We knew Sam Nazarian had grand plans for 2013 but we really weren't expecting all this. Now, we just need to wait for opening day. That should happen first in Las Vegas sometime next year.

The Redbury South Beach is For Real and It's Opening This Fall Too

Where: 1776 Collins Ave [map], Miami Beach, FL, United States, 33139
May 21, 2013 at 12:48 PM | by | Comments (3)

We had the news yesterday that the SBE company would be spinning off their Redbury Hotel in Miami but today, we've got the full lowdown from SBE themselves. And it's good, like really good.

First off, The Redbury South Beach will open this fall. Wham, bam, thank you mam! As you can see from the Twitpic from @DeeTCL, work is already underway. (The hotel is opening out of the old Fairfax Hotel.)

Word is the design will be inspired by its Hollywood roots but will also weave in the art deco vibe of South Beach. All in all, the hotel will have 69 rooms and suites.

Restauranteurs Larry Levy and Bob Heyat are responsible for bringing in the hip food & beverage offerings including the lobby restaurant, Lorenzo, which will be helmed by James Beard Award-winning Chef Tony Mantuano who has four great restaurants in Chicago, include Spiagia and Terzo Piano at the Art Institute. As you can guess, the restaurantwill serve up authentic Italian cuisine.

An Unstoppable Force: SLS Heads Northwest To Seattle In 2016

February 14, 2013 at 2:12 PM | by | Comments (0)

The folks over at SLS are on a roll this week. One day after announcing SLS Las Vegas will open in 2014 (allegedly), they're looking even further into the future with plans for SLS Seattle to open in 2016.

Can you say 'overachiever?'

We're reminded of a Virgin Hotels exec who recently said they're "still on track" to reach their goal of 20 Virgin Hotels in 10 years—despite the fact that they haven't even opened one yet.

Admittedly, SLS/sbe/Sam Nazarian are in a far better position, with four properties already up and running (SLS South Beach, SLS Beverly Hills, The Redbury, and The Raleigh). So for now, we'll take their word for it that construction on a $400 million development, located at 5th and Columbia in Downtown Seattle, is set to begin at the end of the year, with an anticipated completion of 2016.

The hotel will have 184 rooms (designed by Philippe Starck, of course), and will occupy floors 2 through 15 of a mixed-use tower with a whole bunch of food, beverage and retail outlets, not to mention a spa and fitness center.

Read a quote from sbe founder Sam Nazarian after the jump!

SLS Las Vegas Breaks Ground, Will Debut in 2014

February 14, 2013 at 10:01 AM | by | Comments (0)

Almost two years after The Sahara, a Vegas hotel-casino owned by Sam Nazarian, fell apart at the seams shuttered, sbe officially broke ground yesterday to re-adapt the site into the long-awaited SLS Las Vegas. But don't start booking those flights to LAS just yet.

The press release declares a Fall 2014 opening, though our pals at VegasChatter wonder if that might be a little unrealistic, considering how much work has to be done to turn the place into an "entertainment-driven resort and casino" (and how much money has to be spent—a reported $415 million is being pumped into the project).
