The NY Times May Have Spilled The Beans On Viceroy New York (And Other News)

There's tons of New York hotel news flying around this week and we don't have time to give each and every story the love and attention it may deserve, so you will have to settle for some news briefs.
· Did The NY Times Accidentally Blow the Viceroy's Cover?: Back in October, Viceroy's new CEO all but confirmed that a new Manhattan property would be opening within a year—but that was as much info as he was willing to give. Now, it looks like we're getting a few more details on the mystery hotel from the unlikeliest of places: the New York Times Style section.
In an article published yesterday, husband-and-wife design team Roman & Sons (responsible for the interiors of The Standard High Line, Ace New York, and, randomly, Gwyneth Paltrow's TriBeCa loft) reveal one of their current projects is "the 30-floor Viceroy Hotel in Midtown Manhattan, a building for which they are responsible for both the design and the architecture".
This no doubt will herald some sort of official announcement, we just know it. In the meantime...the Viceroy will have the same design team as the Ace and the Standard! Cool!

More Importantly, Where Did Celebs End Up After the Storm?

A bearded Russell Crowe waltzes off to his uptown hotel...
So far, we've brought you Sandy-related reports on pressing matters like price gouging, the Park Hyatt's rogue crane and the surge in hotel cancellations. But moving on to the real question on everyone's mind: how have celebs managed to cope since Sandy hit the Big Apple?
Quite well, as a matter of fact. While plenty of downtown New Yorkers were busy digging out candles from kitchen cabinets and wearing blankets to compensate for lack of heating (actually, some downtown hotel guests were doing the same thing), a flock of A-listers were ditching their power-less TriBeCa, SoHo and Greenwich Village apartments for a plush uptown refuge, where the electricity flows like honey and the shoe shine kiosk stays open all night long.*
Yup, we're talking about The Mark.

Russell Crowe Stuns Hotel Staff by Eating Like a Normal Person
If you're anything like us after returning to your hotel after a long day of work, you're hungry. And you think to yourself, "Hey, self, I'm starving. Here are my options: I could pay a bajillion dollars to order from the hotels fancy-shmantsy menu from the Michelin-starred restaurant downstairs, munch on some poached and glazed royal Anjou pigeon, maybe grab a quickie bite of some of that cannelloni of foie gras and Jabugo ham or I can just run down the street and get some $5.00 Indian food from the takeout place I like."
And, again, if you're anything like us, you understand that usually most of the time the decision at which you're going to arrive is...option B. Cheap takeout from the Indian place.
Well, Russell Crowe did what most normal people in the world would do and opted for the Indian food several times while staying at the Pennyhill Park Hotel & Spa outside London, where he's staying while filming Robin Hood and apparently Crowe's choice to skip the hotel's restos (the Michelin-starred Latymer, whose menu items do include that Foie gras canneloni and Anjou pigeon, and The Brasserie) is front page news.
