For starters, some folks, including us, never got an email from Public Hotels announcing the start of the sale. This is pretty crappy as signing up for the email was the preferred way of learning about the sale.
Yup, i got a room for 1 date, gave them my card details and get an error message.
Meanwhile inside HotelChatter's HQ ASchechter had three separate reservations go through but each time was thwarted by an "Error!" message at the end.

We never once thought the rooms at the hot new award-winning Public Hotel in Chicago were too pricey (we stayed there on opening night for $135 and have recently seen specials for $100 a night) but it looks like hotelier Ian Schrager is staying true to his promise to make Public available to the public--because he's just announced the hotel's first ever ONE DOLLAR SALE.
For a 90-day period starting on a secret date, Public will offer three special guest rooms per night, each with a rate of just $1. Not $10, not $5, ONE DOLLAR.
Once the sale goes live, prospective guests have 48 hours to book a room for $1 within the 90-day booking period (meaning you can book your stay either 10 days or 90 days in advance.)
It is first come, first served so there is no time to think it over, text with your boyfriend, DM your roommate or ask your friends on Facebook if you think you should book it. You just book it. Right there, right away. And then you can use the savings to have a seriously gluttonous meal down at The Pump Room.
Starting tomorrow through Friday, the hotel will release 1,000 room nights at the Liverpool Street Hotel for just 2p! The two-penny rooms can be booked for select dates from opening day, January 4, all the way through May 27.
The race for the low rate begins at 8am London time and all you have to do is head to the Tune UK website, www.tunehotels.com/uk, search for a discounted room and click the BOOK NOW button. If you can't find a date that has a 2p rate on the website, you can also look on the Tune Hotel’s Facebook and Twitter pages for some clues as to which dates are still open.
One week into the New Year, we think it's fair to say that the "Happy" has already rubbed off. It's cold, the headlines are full of depressing news, and we hear that hotel room rates will go up this year (good for hotel biz, not so much for our wallets).
So, here's a nugget of goodness for 2011: The Pod Hotel in New York is running one of those wacky date-driven promotions tomorrow, 1.11.11, letting folks snag a room for $111.11--and not a teensy-tiny pod with bunk beds, either. This rate is for a Queen room.

Make sure you set your alarms this Wednesday and do not oversleep! That's because UK budget hotel chain, Travelodge, is holding one of its famous £9 room sales.
The sale kicks off at 6am UK time with thousands of rooms available at Travelodges all over the UK.
The £9 rooms (approx $14 USD) will be available on selected dates throughout the whole of next year. Yes, that's right-- we said the whole of next year, from 1st January 2011 - 28th December. 2011. And we thought Christmas was already over!
So if you’re after a cheap room for the night, log onto the website this Wednesday, December 29 at 6am. All rooms are subject to availability, and are valid for a limited time only.
With over 300 Travelodges in the UK, 10 of which are located in London there are plenty to choose from. But remember, most of the good dates and locations sell out fast so be super quick!
Surely, there's gotta be $20 in here.
If you're worried about sticking to your New Year's Resolution of "spend less money" when it comes to your travel budget, we've got two ways to get around that for the first week of 2011.
First off, Red Roof is offering all guests rooms for just $20.11 on January 2. The special, one-day only "Nicest Price" can be booked via redroof.com using the code 608790. Yes, we know the Red Roof is not the glamorous getaway you had in mind but $20.11 is dirt-cheap! We might even book a Red Roof just for the thrill of paying $20 and 11 cents for a hotel room.
Can't stay on January 2? Red Roof is kicking off its Nicest Price advance purchase program in the New Year, which offers up to 20 percent off when guests book 20 day in advance or 15 percent off when booking 10 days in advance. That's good to know when planning a road-trip this spring.
Lucy Sykes Rellie dons a St. Regis Collection necklace by Alexis Bittar at a party to celebrate the 21st St. Regis Hotel opening.
The luxury hotel brand recently celebrated the opening of its 21st hotel, St. Regis Bahia Bahia Resort in Puerto Rico which opened November 4 and which was quickly followed by the 22nd hotel opening at the St. Regis Lhasa Resort in China on Monday. (Not to mention, the St. Regis Osaka in Japan opened last month.)
But despite all the new hotels, the St. Regis is not one to ditch its long history of luxury. Fortunately, instead of just waxing on and on about their history, you can actually get something out of it.
The Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort & Spa apparently is so up in arms over the U.S. Postal Service's proposed two-cent stamp increase that it will give out two-cent rooms. Yeah, that'll show those postal workers.
Okay, so we kid. Obviously we are gonna call gimmick on this one. Sure, no one is happy about paying almost 50 cents to send out a letter, but let's not pretend that this is an issue about protesting the increasingly expensive mail service.

While we're forced to wait until February for The W London, we're thinking of happy thoughts like Tune Hotels. Remember, The Tune Hotel Westminster is set to open later this summer and they have been making good on their promise to offer rooms for a penny.
On the hotel group's Facebook page, they just posted this announcement for the penny rooms, otherwise known as Tunedays:
We are delighted to announce that from 12.01am on Tuesday 13th July there will be 200 rooms available to book at our Westminster hotel for the cost of just one penny! The rooms will be available for reservations and will be allocated on a first come service. So make sure you have your fingers ready on the keyboard at midnight on Monday! Stay tuned for hints on which months these rooms are available!
Ahhh, that last line is key.
Originally slated to open in October, as we reported, its unveiling will now take place in late December, just in time to receive an onslaught of travelers in the new year.
The themed deal offers guests who book two or more nights in January 2010 a rate of $20.10 for their first night. That's good enough for those who want to kick off 2010 in a snow-free climate, but just remember--the hotel is located in Brickell which is downtown Miami as opposed to Miami Beach and its party scene. But with regular room rates ranging from $115-230 per night, you're pocketing a lot of cash and should have plenty of cab fare to get back-and-forth with no problem.
It wasn’t all that long ago that we were telling you about the New York Roosevelt Hotel’s penchant for Twitter contests—and whaddyaknow? They’re at it again. This time the historic hotel goes back to the Web 2.0 future to celebrate Teddy Roosevelt’s birthday, which, as history nerds know, is tomorrow, October 27.
The contest begins at 2:00 p.m. EST tomorrow, when the Roosevelt will post a trivia question about the nation’s 26th president on their Twitter page. The first five respondents to tweet the right answer will receive a special rate at the hotel of $18.58 (the year Roosevelt was born). Then, at 2:30 p.m., there’ll be another trivia question to ponder—with the first five people answering correctly snagging a room rate of $26.00 (in honor of Teddy being the 26th president).
The stunning, cliffside Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu is turning 110 years old and to celebrate, the hotel is offering rates for--you guessed it--$110 a night. While the stays are good through December 22, you must book between October 12 to 31. The rate is also open based on availability. The hotel suggests you call in person at 1-888-403-9199 to book. Normally, rooms are about $170CAD a night.
So what do you get for $110 a night? Well, nothing really besides a room which is non-refundable and full pre-payment is required.
