There's tons of hotel news flying around this week and we don't have time to give each and every story the love and attention it may deserve, so you will have to settle for some news briefs.
· The Waldorf-Astoria Collection: As expected, the Waldorf-Astoria Collection keeps on growing. Hilton's luxury chain, anchored by the flagship Waldorf-Astoria in New York, has announced plans for the Palace Jerusalem which will be a 220-room hotel with 30 residences on site. The building for the hotel was actually built in 1929 but will undergo a complete restoration and renovation before opening in 2010.
· Kimpton Hotels: Kimpton is already planning a Hotel Palomar for the City of Brotherly Love but they are also working on adding another hotel in the Robert Morris building on 17th and Arch Streets. Both hotels should open sometime in 2009.
· RockResorts: The Inn at Beaver Creek will now be known as The Osprey at Beaver Creek and has been snapped up by RockResorts. The 41-room hotel will get a $7 million renovation this summer and re-open just in time for the 2008/2009 winter ski season.
· The Opus Montreal: The Opus has opened a new dining scene called Koko Restaurant & Bar, a 9000-square feet serving modern Asian cuisine. The name Koko was inspired by the glamorous Coco Chanel and actually Koko means "here" in Japan.
· The Lanesborough: The posh London hotel has also added a new restaurant, Apsleys. The fine dining establishment will feature modern Italian cuisine from chef Nick Bell. Apsleys will open in what was formerly The Conservatory Restaurant.
With the "Sex and the City" movie right around the corner (it opens May 30), you might be reminiscing about all those Sunday nights in college when you and three of your girlfriends made cosmos, watched the show and the spent the remainder of the evening debating who was the real-life Carrie in your little clan. Lucky for you, you don't need to just reminisce, now that you're older and (hypothetically) can afford to live the glamorous lifestyle upheld by the show.
Gather up the BFFs for a getaway to The Landings St. Lucia, A RockResort, with the property's "Girls Rock" package. Available through December 19, it includes accommodations in a two-bedroom suite; a one-hour sailing lesson and unlimited sailboat rentals; private cooking class and wine tasting with the hotel's executive chef; a 50-minute massage treatment each day; an in-room make-your-own-drinks bar; and a CD from a local steel drum band.
The package requires a five-night minimum stay, with room rates starting at $257 per person, per night, based on quadruple occupancy. Although we're pretty sure Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha didn't share rooms that time they want to Atlantic City, but whatevs. Worth noting is that the hotel is currently in stage two of a four-stage development, which won't be complete until September 2010.
In this day and age it's totally not unusual to walk into your local mani-pedi place and spy at least one if not two men having some treatments done. So why should hotel spa getaways only cater to women?
That must be what The Lodge at Cordillera in Colorado thought as they are offering a Men's Spa Boot Camp Package. But it's not all facials, mud baths and massages. The hotel, a RockResort, is offering guys two nights of luxury accommodations, along with one full day of either an ice climbing lesson or a snowmobile rental.
Guys can experience the sensation of climbing up a frozen waterfall with a private ice-climbing lesson. Numerous ice climbs form each year, from easy slabs to a 120-foot free- standing pillar of ice known as "The Fang." Guests can also opt to enjoy a rush of adrenaline, spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains, and lots of snow as they cruise through the Rockies on their very own snowmobiles.
Then the guys are offered a Mountain Man spa treatment which begins with maximum buffering scrub involving Dead Sea salts, dried sugar cane and magnesium oxide crystals. The rough treatment is followed by an herbal liniment rub and an herbal spice lotion massage. Now that should soothe those manly muscles, shouldn't it?
The package start at $246 for a two-night minimum stay and is available from now through March 23rd. Don't worry ladies. The hotel is still offering their Girl's Night In package too.
Vail is getting a little bit of Aspen-esque luxury digs for its snow bunnies with money.
The Arrabelle at the Vail Resort will open on January 5, 2008. A RockResort, The Arrabelle is the first new ultra-luxe resort to open in Vail in 25 years.
Anchoring a new destination called Vail Square, a European-inspired village that will fuse new energy into the region, The Arrabelle will offer guests an exceptional vacation experience with 36 luxury rooms and 50 condominiums, fine dining at Centre V, a RockResorts spa, personalized services such as the Ski Nanny, and a true ski-in/ski-out experience with a location just steps away from Vail Mountain.
Ski Nanny? Apparently the nanny will watch kids while they are on the slopes and take them to and from ski school, allowing parents to ski the more difficult slopes. We love it.
