Which Suite at the SLS South Beach Had Robin Thicke So Hot and Bothered?

January 2, 2014 at 6:01 PM | by | Comments (0)

As we all know, Robin Thicke was in Miami Beach on New Year's Eve, performing at the SLS South Beach for their New Year's Eve party. But what we didn't know was that the "Blurred Lines" singer threw a fit over the small size of his hotel room.

According to Page Six, Thicke demanded to pull out of the performance for a bigger room. He reportedly had his travel agent calling other hotels to get a bigger room. In the end, an SLS rep denied all the drama and said, "Robin has been a great guest.”

So which room did Thicke resist so much? We're not quite sure but the Tower Penthouse starts at around 1,000-sq.ft. with a 552-sq.ft. rooftop terrace. Meanwhile, the Villa Penthouse is a little bigger at 1,117-sq.ft with a 360-sq.ft. wraparound terrace. We think either of these options would have been just fine for Thicke, especially given the size restrictions of these older Art Deco buildings (The SLS was formerly The Ritz Plaza.)

But if they tried to put him in the "puny" 700--sq.ft. SLS suite then we think he had every right to complain. "What rhymes with hug me" indeed.

UPDATE 9.6.13: A rep for the hotel emailed us to say, "We're having our most successful year on record since reopening in 2008. We're averaging over 80% occupancy a year and have the highest revenues in the history of Fontainebleau. In fact, Fontainebleau is one of the most profitable non-casino hotels in the world." In other words, party on.

It's unbelievable that even in the face of financial troubles, Miami Beach's legendary Fontainebleau is still partying like all's right in the world.

The hotel capped off their summer of BleauLive concertsthis past weekend with a performance by singer Robin Thicke and Grammy-winning producer/musician Pharrell Williams. The duo took to the stage and performed their monster summer hit, "Blurred Lines."

Meanwhile, the details are equally blurry regarding the upcoming sale of The Fontainebleau to South Florida developer Turnberry Ltd. Dubai World, who has 50 percent stake in the hotel, has already unloaded other assets to repay $25 billion worth of debts, with the SoBe hotel the most recent on the chopping block.

According to an article in Reuters, the sale of the hotel will be completed in a few weeks, but the price is being kept hush hush according to their source, and Dubai World's spokesman would not comment.

First they teamed up with Blue Ribbon Restaurant Group to bring guests some of the most delicious fried chicken on the planet. Now, Renaissance Hotels are attracting celebs and musos, like Robin Thicke, Minka Kelly, Solange Knowles, and Kourtney Kardashian with her plus one.

These folks were all at the Renaissance New York Times Square last night but being skinny celebs all, we're pretty sure they weren't there for the fried chicken. Nope, they were helping Renaissance launch its new RLife Live program, a series of curated events such as intimate acoustic performances, listening parties, and pre- and post-concert parties.

Yet Another Bad Music Video Filmed at a Miami Hotel

What is up with Miami and bad rap videos? First, there was Pitbull's "Hotel Room Service" at the EPIC Hotel. Then John Legend, Kanye and Consequence filmed an unexciting video at The Fontainebleau. And now we have Rick Ross and Robin Thicke b-boying it all over the Viceroy Miami and the Icon Brickell complex with their new video, "Lay Back."

Everywhere they go in the video, there are skimpy girls in bikinis and high heels--chilling at the Viceroy's super long pool, doing a sexy strut in the spa, getting cozy in a (faux) guestroom and making out in the screening room.

The song is alright but even though we love Robin Thicke, he looks like Justin Timberlake's "D-ck in a Box" and "Mother Lover" character, just without the goatee and the 90s clothing. Seriously, what is he doing in this video? Cheese alert. However, we will admit that the video shows off the Viceroy Miami's best features--the jaw-dropping views of The Biscayne Bay.

Since Lionel Richie's video still seems to be the defacto measurement device for bad music videos, we have to say that Robin Thicke and Rick Ross' terrible video is better that Lionel's. But not by much.
