Rumors have been swirling for quite some time about where the second Planet Hollywood hotel would land (Las Vegas being the first, of course.) First, it was said that China, Panama, and Qatar were the front runners. Then, over two years later, we wondered if Orlando could make sense. This week, the announcement was officially made, and it looks like we have a Cinderella on our hands: Goa, India, has pulled off the upset.
Utorda Beach will be the exact location of the new beachfront Planet Hollywood, which is scheduled to open by the end of this year. To be managed by Wyndham, it will feature 115 rooms, 15 luxury tents, spa, and multiple swimming pools. Aside from general leisure travelers, the target market of the hotel will be yoga retreats along with the Indian weddings market.
The property is being built with low-rise architecture in traditional Goan style, with emphasis on detailed sculptures and sprawling landscapes. In terms of the latter, there will be 10 acres of tropical gardens and coconut orchards.

Way back in 2010, It was announced that the world would be getting more Planet Hollywood Hotels (the first and only being the one in Vegas of course.) The expansion would be helped along by Wyndham Hotels.
Then the following year it was announced that actually China, Panama and Qatar would get the new PH Hotels first. Well, here we are on the edge of 2014, and no new Planet Hollywood hotels exist anywhere. But it looks like one is very close to opening and close to home too.
We stumbled across some new Planet Hollywood trademarks the other day--one for Phabulous and another for Phamous, two PH-branding concepts that are loosely used by the Vegas resort (mostly in promotions and on social media.) The owner of the trademark is listed as Planet Hollywood in Orlando and not Caesars Entertainment (which owns the property in Vegas.) The trademarks are both listed as for "hotel and resort hotel services." Sounds promising! But does this mean there's an actual hotel site in Orlando laying around for the Planet Hollywood brand? Yes, actually there is.
Remember back in September when we cried tears of joy after hearing that Wyndham Hotels would be rolling out more Planet Hollywood Hotels? Our beloved early 90s movie-themed hotel would now be offered to us outside of Vegas.
We eagerly began jotting down a few possible trips--Planet Hollywood Miami, Planet Hollywood New York, Planet Hollywood Hollywood (duh) and Planet Hollywood London.
So imagine how utterly gutted we were when we found out that the first Planet Hollywood hotels would open, not here in America, but in China, Panama and Qatar. Why, god why?
USA Today reports:
Over on VegasChatter, we've been keeping tabs of the cheesy movie-themed rooms like Spaceballs at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino and with over a 2,000 rooms, we thought we'd have plenty of movies to go through. It turns out, we're going to have even more.
Wyndham Hotels has announced a bewildering partnership with Planet Hollywood Hotels brand to license more PH hotels.
That means aside from more cheesy movie-themed rooms, you can expect Planet Hollywood restaurants which go beyond the flagship brand we all used to eat at in middle school in the early 90s. From the press release we just got:
Other Planet Hollywood International restaurant concepts available for development at future hotel locations include Buca di Beppo®, an authentic, family-style Italian restaurant chain known for its quirky décor and upbeat atmosphere; Earl of Sandwich® restaurants, launched by Robert Earl and the 11th Earl of Sandwich John Montagu, specializing in fresh, hot sandwiches; and Planet Dailies, a trendy, 24/7 coffee shop and meal concept.
