It may be more foggy than chilly in London right now, but that won’t stop us getting into the Christmas spirit with some ice skating. Last night, the Somerset House rink (sponsored by Tiffany, no less) opened up with the
overexposed ubiquitous delightful P Middy christening it for the rest of us.
Turns out we’re not the only ones who like
Pippa Middleton skating, because myHotels have teamed up with the rink to offer a skating package.
Guests will also be able to choose from one of the many Club Nights available at Skate this year – including names such as Joey Negro, Winterwell Festival feat The Next Men, Ministry of Sound Radio, Time Out presents Nite Sessions and many more.

Stuart Johnson of Brown's and Willy Bauer, owner of The Arch. Doing good in the seat of British power.
We’re not the types to need much of an excuse to book a hotel stay, but if you are, here’s a pretty unbeatable one – you can stay in a nice hotel and do your bit for charity at the same time.
Yesterday saw the return of the UK-based SleepSmart initiative. A spin off of the wildly successful restaurant scheme, StreetSmart, if you stay at a participating hotel from now until 31 December, you’ll be offered the opportunity to add £1 to your bill.
That £1 goes directly to the StreetSmart homeless charity. And we mean directly – sponsors Deutsche Bank cover the admin costs, so every penny gets to the people who need it.
There’s a great little roster of hotels taking part this year – the full list is here, but they include myhotels, Brown’s, The Arch, The Landmark, and the Avo in London, with myhotel Brighton, Park Plaza Nottingham and the Lowry covering outside the capital. All very good, but we’re actually surprised/disappointed that there aren’t more. It’s not like it’s much to ask of your guests, right? Still, all the more incentive to book with the ones that support it.
The ever-burgeoning London hotel scene may have most of our attention at the moment, but we’re far from immune to the charms of Brighton, especially with the news that one of our favorite fun hotels there, myhotel Brighton, has just opened a restaurant devoted to one of our favorite foods: curry.
Not just any restaurant, either - it’s the new site for The Chilli Pickle, which won the prize for most innovative restaurant at last year’s British Curry Awards, and received two AA rosettes and a Michelin BiB Gourmand thing too.
The restaurant got all its plaudits (and rave TripAdvisor reviews) in its old location in Meetings House Lane but it’s now upped sticks to the hotel, and opened its doors Monday.
It’s owned by the same team and will have the same menu as before, as well as introducing some new dishes from a recent trip to India.
Prices are really reasonable, too: vegetable dishes from £3.50, mains from £6.95 and thalis for £9.95 for lunch and from £12.95 for dinner. The one to go for? The new Mutton Laal Mans – pieces of mutton in hot red chilli gravy from Rajasthan, courtesy of their latest trip.
The Chatwal is ready for your sexytime.
Fear not, Casanovas and Casanovettes: It's not too late to impress your lover on the 14th! We've dug up five V-Day packages that are still available for Monday night—and offer a little something more than months-old chocolate-covered strawberries. (Because, gross.) Have fun out there, and don't forget to leave a big tip for housekeeping.
Jewelry Shopping at The Chatwal: The midtown Manhattan hotel is turning its Stanford White Studio into an Asprey jewelry shop, with everything from an $80 money clip to a $15,400 diamond-and-white gold ring, open only to overnight guests tonight. A bigger, Luxe & Lace package, including two nights, a La Perla welcome gift, drinks at the Lambs Club Bar and a chauffeured shopping trip to La Perla and Asprey on Madison Avenue, starts at $629 a night.
It’s absolutely bloody freezing in London right now but there’s no need to fear the cold if you’re staying at myhotel Chelsea – because look what the rooms come equipped with!
Yes, we present to you the fluffiest, softest, most strokeable hot water bottles in the history of bedwarmers.
We had a nosey round the hotel a couple of weeks back, and while there were lots of things that we liked (free fairy cakes at check in, mostly) these were what we fell head over heels in hearts with.
There’s nothing like helping a good cause and getting some fun out of it while you’re at it, which is why we thoroughly approve of the new SleepSmart program that’s about to launch in London.
A spin off of the incredibly successful “donate £1 with your meal to help the homeless” StreetSmart campaign, SleepSmart is a little closer to home, in that they’re trying to raise money for the homeless from those able to afford to stay in a fancy hotel at London prices.
During November and December, if you stay at a participating hotel, your final bill will include a £1 donation to the StreetSmart program (it’s voluntary, so you can remove it if you like). Even better, they guarantee that every penny of that will go to the charity, since Deutsche Bank has promised to cover the admin costs.
It’s the lead up to a very special day at the moment in London. Not the General Election, sillies, but the la-di-dah Chelsea Flower Show, which unleashes itself on the capital on 25 May.
And while, if we’re being honest, we’re not totally bowled over by the idea of watching posh people sniff dahlias, we are pretty jazzed by the idea of CFS-inspired cocktails. Especially if they’re champagne cocktails, as myhotel Chelsea is currently serving.
There are four cocktails to choose from, with gorgy names like Lavender Bubby Tenderness, Blossom & Spice and Wild Hibiscus Imperial (which comes with a hibiscus flower floating in the drink, which blooms as you’re waiting for it to brew), all based around Perrier Jouet champagne, and they sound, look, and, we bet, taste, divine.
